I've been watching the live streams and I cant say I'm all that impressed, as I expected. A lot of pandering to these 'gamer families' which make for cool tech demos but aren't utilized in real life. (in my experience).

I'm still looking at the PS4 first.

I thought it was funny that the first 4 games they show were EA sports games that are put out every year...

I judge ANYONE who keeps this energy sink on while they're watching normal television, just because they want to use voice commands.

I also sort of judge anyone who is watching TV while skyping. Caveat: it's because you wanted to watch something together, but skype was your only option.

And my final point is that I really don't see why having basic kinect features would be considered super marketable. Y'know since... Kinect is already a thing.

That's not to say that I was particularly impressed with the PS4, but they at least seemed to put a lot of energy into creating new development options. Most developers haven't embraced Kinect, and I don't really expect that to change.

To be 100% honest, I only want to yell at my TV when I'm pissed off, because I keep dying or something cheap is happening.

[EDIT]

Blocking used games isn't awesome, but I feel like I remember the PS4 doing the same thing? I dunno, I just kind of assumed that would be standard this generation.

And another note: Had they bothered to try and sell this as a streaming television solution, and have gone through the insane process of creating a meaningful experience that way, I'd be more impressed. Because that obviously would have required it to be on anyway.

The fact that they haven't announced a power-saving mode, for this new feature, bugs me either way.

[EDIT2]

I DO think the system itself is gorgeous, though. Not a fan of the controller, but I've never actually loved the controller's look.

Sure, but if they announced something 'new' people would ***** that they just want to sit down and play games. My reasoning for being more interested in PS4 is more to do with the cost of XBL and getting a decent, affordable steering wheel for the system.

I think the interactive TV thing is really neat and I look forward to seeing it evolve, but I was a little disappointed in the games. Hopefully they have more things to show us at E3.

I also noticed how they didn't get deep into the hardware specs like Sony did which points to another console that will be under powered.

Interactive TV? I watch TV specifically so I don't have to be interactive.

I'm also curious to see what features Microsoft will be charging for. Right now it doesn't come close to being worth $10/month.

Oh yeah, I always forget that the 360 has a subscription cost. I'm so used to it just being free for the PS3.

That makes this further underwhelming. I had been thinking of all this as being a free feature.

Exactly, they are still looking to expand their userbase through these gimmicks, eg Kinect. 8 million kinects were sold in the first 2 months using identical marketing; these make believe families that all sit around and watch/play TV/xbox together, the way the TV-portrayed-suburban moms and dads should want their families to be.

I think I've finally hit the age where the market is farther along than I am. Interactive TV is stuff like Kinect? I always just considered that video games, and wasn't really aware there was a different term for them. If that's the case, then I'm okay with it. I was thinking like the WebTV fiasco or some other weird Netflix gimmick.

Sure, I'm OK with it's existence, but you take that stuff out of the unveiling and there's really not much to be excited about at this time, and IMO they needed to wow the gamers after all the BS with the always online "rumor".

I can't say that any of the news really grabbed me. The prospects of instant-on, quick switching, and game recording/sharing are encouraging additions, but they're not system-sellers for me. Will await word on actual console exclusives.

The only news I've heard from either console that truly interests me is the way that Sony seems to be trying to lower the barrier of entry for indie developers. But the results of that endeavor aren't in yet.

Sticking to my plan of coasting on my new PC for the time being. Will reevaluate at E3.

I havent watched it yet. But PS4 has 8 gigs of GDDR5 ram, and from the pictures I saw Xbox one has a plain 8 gigs of normal RAM? I may be wrong since I havent read much yet. But GDDR ram is WAY WAY faster than regular ram. GDDR is Video card ram its ment for moving stuff in an out really quickly. DDR3 is the basic stuff you have in your PC and 8 gigs on discount atm is like 30 bucks or less.

From the few reports I have read, Games install to the HDD automatically and if you take that disk to a friends house and try to play on their system it will uninstall from your system if you try to install on theirs. Also they may be a "Pay Wall" to install used copies.

From the amount of tweets with #xboxfallsflat and Xboxonefail. I think this may be a repeat of the original Xbox. The problem is I dont think MS will be able to find that system seller game again like Halo was. They are going for what seems to be a frat boy type game line up and honestly those games are getting tired. Yes they are still big sellers atm but how long can that really last. MW1 was awesome, MW2 was ok, MW3 was Meh, Black ops and 2 were ok WaW was terrible (IMHO). Halo 1 and 2 were pretty good as 3 was ok also. I havent heard a ton about 4 so Im guessing its ok. But the series is going to hit sequel fatigue soon also I suspect.

And it doesnt sound like MS has a lot of New IPs lined up. Thats going to hurt them. Where the PS4 is opening itself to indies and been pushing out a more New IPs.

Honestly its the console curse. Every 3rd console has always under performed and the 2nd gen has always been huge. Sega had genesis, then the Saturn died. Nintendo had Snes then the N64 fizzled overall(Not enough variety of games, lack of games). PS2 was way better overall then the PS3 is.

Dont get me wrong I do like PS more than Xbox, but I admit I want Xbox to stay alive to give PS competition and keep them innovating. I just remember being a manager right after Xbox 360 and right before PS3 launch. Everyone complained about the PS3s price, which was high, but if you wanted the same options from the Xbox it would cost you the same or more as a PS3. Battery packs sold separately, Wifi sold seperately (100 dollars!) HD-DVD sold separately. Xbox Live sold separately. Tacked on HDMI support.

And I know some people want to compare Xbox live to PS+ Heres a list of all the FREE games I have from one year of PS+

There's speculation that it's GDDR3 RAM. They also didn't announce the CPU speed which concerns me.

I know plenty of people hate IGN but they threw together a comparison chart on their Wiki page.

http://ca.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_Comparison_Chart

Lots of the info is still in flux so take it with a grain of salt.

Neither did PS4 to be fair (at conference) Most consoles are modified CPU's though so judging them based on PC standards seems a bit off (may change this cycle due to consoles more closely matching PCs)

The required Kinect is enough for me to say that I won't be buying this system. I don't particularly care for the idea of MS having a internet connected camera and microphone in my living room. Sure, I could cover the lens or hide the thing in a corner, but just the fact that MS has the balls to pull a stunt like that is enough to keep me as far away from the thing as possible. Paying MS a fee to play used games didn't help their cause much either, but that's a minor complaint compared to the Kinect crap.

I went into today hopeful. I am biased to Sony since I love my Vita and PS3 so much. I do own a 3DS as well and also a Wii. 360 was my first system from this generation and it will hold a special place in my heart. I think I spent more hours with GoW1 (and I'm pretty awful at shooters) than any console game this generation. I'm not really a fan of any of MS first party titles besides Fable and Crackdown. I was brutally disappointed today. I don't play sports games. I don't care for either the Battlefield nor the CoD series'. The interactive movie, well, I really have no opinion on that. I don't subscribe to cable and I don't watch football (except live games and a few Packer games) or play fantasy football.

As of right now, I'm absolutely day 1 on PS4. I still am waiting for a Metroid and new Zelda, along with a price drop on WiiU. X1? Absolutely nothing that was shown today even garnered a blip of interest from me. That makes me pretty sad. Smiley: frown

Blah.

The thing that REALLY confuses me is that the 360 had the upper hand, here. There's no next gen format to sell - just your new system, it's new features, its new exclusives.

I'm just so confused as to why this whole unveiling seems to be about Kinect. We already have Kinect. It's a talking point, sure. But more in line of "Oh, hey, Kinect is built in and we're ensuring it interfaces with all systems, so you can control television and streaming content with it, on top of the gaming stuff. You can even do cool things like picture-in-picture skype and pull up a web window.

And then the rest should be about how awesome your system is for gaming.

Am I alone in that sentiment? I mean, at the end of the day, I'm purchasing a game console. I don't need a super high-tech computer just to watch television. Particularly not when I could just get a Roku. Would [normal] people really pay an extra $200 just so to be able to control it with their hand?

Developers are barely bothering with Kinect as it is.

The thing that confuses me about this generation is that you have the Wii U, which will be horribly underpowered by the end of the year and requires extra development to use its controller, and now the Kinect Box One, which will again require additional development. It's like these players are begging developers to ensure that their major features are never a part of cross-platform games...

[EDIT]

The new console has to check in online at least once a day or it won't function.
