When you hit "pet attacK' it doesn't do anything. It just sits there. When you get hit... it just sits there. If you drag the mob to the pet and let the mob hit you in the head... it just sits there. it's like it's on auto hold. This pet is broken beyond belief. It won't even follow you. Just just stands right there at zone in.

Its nukes are resisted faily often. It's got a great damage shield, but it won't get up and fight, even with a merc cleric.

In other words, years later, it's still craptacular.

Updating for prosperity...

This pet no longer uses mana, it still self roots in combat, but is still controllable by using "Back Off" and manually moving it to the mob, then re-engaging it in combat. Melee attacks are reduced by 50% and it's nukes hit for about 640 damage which it seems to cast about every 6 seconds, and always initiates combat with it.

On the TLP server, Phinigel, this pet pulls around 160 DPS (which is very good) while in melee combat. This can often spike up to 180-200 when Malo/Tash is used to prevent resists.

The resist rate seems to have dropped also, although still there. Against yellow and red cons it seems to land it's nuke more often than not, and around 90% of the time when using the level 60 Malo.

Easily the highest damage pet from the Luclin era, but you really need to babysit it on positioning. Ideally if you are in a typical camp group, make sure the group understands that the pet is going to do a TON of damage as long as they keep the mobs within melee range of it. Park the pet a bit away from the group, or wherever the tank is keeping the mobs, and hopefully they are all smart enough to comply with your demands.

In comparison:
Lvl 57 Earth pet: 90-110 DPS
Lvl 58 Fire Pet: 160-200 DPS
Lvl 59 Air Pet: 100-120 DPS
Lvl 60 Water Pet: 130-150 DPS

The first number is base damage without Malo/Tash, so resists are factored in, there will always be some fluctuation based on mob level, and lucky quad hits (no crits at this level range). It's entirely up to the player to decide if the added babysitting of positioning is justified for the extra 50 DPS this pet can push out (which is a sizable chunk at this stage of the game)

Remember, like the other poster mentioned, that this pet (many fire pets actually) self-root to attack. In addition, their insta-cast nuke draws mana from the pets own mana reserve. Your kindle spell can help you with this. The pet will melee, but remember that it's hit points are the worst of the 4 pets, and you have to pull the mob into the fire pet to get within the pet's melee range. So let's recap on how to use one of these, as it's rather complicated:

a. Find a good place to pull to.

b. Kindle on the pet if you feel the need (kindle will root the pet but add to its mana among other things)

c. Pull a mob back the the camp, within melee range of the pet.

d. Pet will begin nuking before reaching the camp, then melee and nuke if you pull mob close enough

e. You or the cleric will have to be very careful to keep a fire pet healed if it's going to be doing the tanking.

f. When combat ends, the pet unroots itself, assuming it's not kindle'd (is that a word?)

g. If you need to move camp, click off kindle from pet.

The only real disadvantages that I have seen with these fire pets are that

a. if you need to run, the pet will stay behind. It will continue to nuke as long as it is able, but obviously can't melee if the mob gets out of melee range.

b. if the pet needs to chase down the mob you may be screwed, (as the pet is rooted during battle), and

c. The pet 'back' command is useless. So don't go starting the kind of fights that require you to back off the pet - it won't work, since, once again, the pet is rooted. However, if the pet merely nuked outside of melee range (they do that a lot), you might be able to keep the pet near your 'camp.'

In my opinion, the extremely high DPS of these fire pets make the disadvantages more than worth it. You just have to be careful - watch their hit points like a hawk if they are doing the tanking.

Say it aint so Thornesque. Why do all the fire pets suck sweaty monkey balls? I mean low hp...fine, low melee damage...fine, but to offset these disadvantages these things to to be offensive machines.

I dinged last night to 58 and rewarded myself by scribing this spell into my spellbook. I was with my guild in Dulaks Harbor and decided to give Mudball a break and summoned this guy. I buffed him with Burnout IV, and Kindle and summoned a whole set of jewelery for him.

On the next mob we went after, I sicced Fireball on him, expecting to see some decent spells cast at the mob. He cast root and then ran over to the mob and started meleeing it. He eventually cast some other lame *** spells, when he wasn't busy meleeing (and only occasionally hiting for 20 a pop). Sigh. After a few mobs, I dismissed him and called Mudball back into service.

I'd recommend skipping this pet spell.

Wow I have to admit that I thought about skipping this one after reading that post. No one in Bazaar had the spell for days anyway, and usually when they have pet spells in this level they want 2k+ pp. So why spend the cash for this quality of pet?

Decided to research it and Velocity… found all the components for Fire pet for about 400pp. What the heck, got it (the spell) on my first combine and took him for a spin in Dulak. I had been hunting there with my earth pet for sometime and wanted to see how he compared.

Loaded him up with armor, weps and jewelry…. Was happy to see that he buffs himself as well. Put him on one of the Pirates and the first thing he does is cast a spell, and drops the pirate 12%. Hmmm…Well, well, well…. After looking at a few of my own nukes and comparing the percentage with what I know I hit them for, looks like he nukes them for 400-500. Set him up with Kindle for his own clarity and he nukes (Fire and Ice spells) like 3-4 times in the fight. (Wow 1600-2000 Damage).. Roots too. By the way when he does melee, he hits for 48 max, not 20. And he quad hits. Yeah, the Earth pet melee’s them down and hit for 70, but this guy nukes them and melee’s. Used both pets enough to say I think Fire wipes them (The Mobs) out just a little faster.

He has about 2500 hp unbuffed compared to about 3200hp for the earth pet. But he does seem to regen faster. (How do you tell HP of Pet? Hit him with elemental draw, -800hp… check the percent of damage, do math..)

Bottom line, This guy is a keeper in my book.

Does anyone have the new stats for this pet since the spell lvl increase ? I solo alot and was wondering if using this fire pet over the 57 earth and agro kiting would be more worth it now. Not sure what kind of dmg output these have on there new nukes. I have heard good things about it - but fire is one of the pets I prefer not to use myself. Earth air and water are nice - always thought fire was lacking. Would appreciate any info on the new nukes before I go buy this thing in bazaar.
