I am a Vah Shir bard with an Int of 85 and a wis of 90. i am having a bear of a time raising my skill in pottery. I fail over and over again and I dont mean I just try for five minutes.. I have spent hours/days/weeks at the pottery wheel and platnum attempting to raise the Impossible . Is my int and wis seriously affecting my ability to raise my skills? So far I have managed to get myself to 57... but I am now broke. and I still cannot manage to finish the quest of the broken vase which is rather low on the scale of quests. I have failed three times and the quest items to make this thing take forever to get. I dont want to have to do this again only to fail. What am I doing wrong????? Please help me.
I actually ended up killing this character and starting a new one. Can I say WOW. I changed where I put my starting skillpoints and I was lvling in pottery so fast it wasnt funny. My first bard character was simply made poorly before I knew about skills. thanks for you help. (FYI she not only increased in her skills but is now already lv 20 ...so much easier than fighting with a poorly made character).

See my post below on the INT/WIS connection to tradeskills. Basically, you need one of those two as high as possible to help you out. Some other tradeskills have secondary stats that can substitute for INT/WIS, but not pottery as far as I know.

Max out your WIS or INT, whichever is easier for you. The highest of those will help out with any tradeskill. Some have secondary skills - STR will help with Smithing, and DEX is alleged to help with Fletching, although there is still some debate about this.
As far as I know, only the highest of WIS or INT will help with Pottery.

My pottery skill is 192 and I'd like to know the best (and least expensive) way to increase it. I've been making casserole dishes, but it's a PITA to do all the combines, not to mention it'll be trivial for me soon. What's next on the pottery trail?

Actually, what I meant is what is the best and most cost effective way to continue increasing my pottery skill at this point? Keep in mind the ease of obtaining materials, cost of the items, complexity of the combines, etc.
It seems like I have to make the ceramic bands and planar stiens now, but I was hoping there'd be a better way!

I need ceramic arrow shafts for fletching, so I wonder if it is possible to make them using the pottery skil. Can anyone give me some information about that, or any possible trivial?

My mistake it was the kiln that was telling me I could not increase my skill not the wheel.
The trivials on medium bowls have changed. I stopped gaining skill with them at 75. Any suggestions on moving up without paying 1pp per sketch?

NEVER MIND. I found it in West Freeport at the unmarked building across from the Hogcaller's Inn.
I was looking at EQ Traders for their pottery recipes, and they have one listed "Casserole Dish, NEW." I've checked the Merchants in Kelethin and Felwithe, and they don't have the sketch. Before I go running all over Norrath, does anyone know where I could find the sketch for the casserold dish?

in the little town in jaggedpine, im pretty sure thats the only place they're sold
i can confirm that they are not regularly sold in the West Freeport shop mentioned above. It appears Jaggedpine is the (only) way to go.

Casserole Sketches are only found in Jaggedpine, along with Non stick Frying pans :)

From there, it's all about collecting a buttload of Zombie Skins before you can progress, so the skill advances are a little slower.

So, potters can make pie "tin", and muffin "tin" and all the other baking things, so why not BREAD Tins....the one I most get asked for....only smiths....doesn't make sense....

I have one small issue with your suggested path:
Sands of Ro are very hard to come by for lower levels. You need to get it from Sand Giants which are a level 35 MOB (usually). Medium bowls are a much better option than Small Wisdom Deities for lower level characters. When Medium bowls trivial move to poison vials.

I have a question about pottery with imbued gems and/or enchanted clay. Does the maker need to be a certain deity to make them, ot just to use them?

ya he is right. i started to make med. bowls at skill lvl 20 i've only acually seceded in makeing it twice but my skill goes up any ways i went from a skill of 20 to a skill of 50 in 5 min

This is mostly an answer to something Garwin asked about six weeks ago...
I'm inclined to assume that by now you either know what you wanted to, or you got bored and don't care. Either way, the question you asked is almost certainly of interest to a lot of people. (Which is the main reason for posting here, rather than a reply.)
You can make a potion with a single charge of 'Thurgadin Gate'! The potion is LORE & NO DROP. This is a required component for the fourth prayer shawl quest in Thurgadin. Personally, I have made and used about a dozen of these and haven't finished the third shawl as yet.
You make the potion in two stages:
*Make a Velium vial:
(At a pottery wheel.)
3 crystalline silks.
2 glass shards.
1 small brick of Velium.
==1 unfired Velium vial.
(At a kiln.)
1 unfired Velium vial.
1 high quality firing sheet.
==1 Velium Vial.
(This bit is trivial with a pottery skill of 122.)
*Make a potion of Velium vapours:
(Get a Velium purifier from Frundle Frenkler, by saying, "Velium vapors".)
1 Velium vial.
2 small pieces of Velium.
And there ya have it. One potion with a single charge of Thurgadin gate. The cast time seems a little longer than casting gate. I've never tested it, so I don't know if it can be interrupted.
Everything you need is available in Thurgadin, or in the Crystal caverns. Bricks and small pieces of Velium are dropped by Ry'Gorr miners. Crystalling silks are dropped by Crystalline spiders.

my enchanter can enchant clay whats the purpose of this??
Certain diety idols require enchanted clay instead of regular clay.

That DEF is almost right except he skipped small bowls which are soooo much cheaper to make. I am a 31 shaman. I don't play this character much lately so his gear is not that good. My charisma when purachasing was 113 and when skilling my wisdom was 125 and dexterity 108. I did this in Halas which is small and therefore not alot of distance between stores. You can buy yer sketches from Skoni by the lake then clay and water at Dok's and walk right over to the pottery wheel at The Golden Torc. I started out messing around w/ clay, you know take one block and a water flask and combine this is trivial at about 20. Then I decided to make small bowls very cheap and very simple except they become trivial at 102. Take one bowl sketch, one small block of clay and one flask water combine til u reach 102. Then go to the medium bowls til 122. I just did this and it cost me very close to 10pp give or take a few gp. So, do not go directly to medium bowls if yer cheap like I am make the small bowls for 1/4 the price.
You took the words right of my mouth! I just finished an extended pottery stint in Halas. Some extra tidbits of information:
Firing the small bowls is a total waste of money. The firing sheet costs more than the finished bowl's selling price. Firing the bowl is trivial at a very low level; therefore you won't gain any skill by firing it. It was a bit disturbing to destroy all those unfired small bowls along the way, even though it was ultimately more cost effective than finishing them.
However, medium bowls are different! The cost to craft AND fire a medium bowl is almost equal to (2 copper more than) its selling price. Again, the trivial level for firing them is much lower; how low I'm not sure. But this means that for every successful medium bowl, you'll get your money back. At what level a potter should switch from small to medium bowls bears some experimentation. I'd guess a skill of 80....

Thurgadin is the place. Started with Medium bowls, that maxed at over 100, skill went up very fast with dex buff and holding the book. Now on large bowl, just make it in pottery wheel and destroy if you succeed. Cost me 15pp to go from skill if 1 to 140 and its still going up at that lvl. Large brick clay, large bowl sketch and water. If on Bristlebane give me a tell, banut lvl 56 shamaness.

Yes you can make them, they are trivial at 120ish but they are LORE and NODROP so you can have 1 yup only 1 at a time and you have to be in Thurga to make it because its part 4 of the coldain prayer shawl

I have made these in Shadow Haven without any trouble. You have to get the purifier in Thurgadin only.

I have heard about Thurgadin Gate potions but I haven't been able to find out any information about them. Do they Exist? Someone here on the post said they do. What skill level is needed? What is the final product called? How much does it cost per attempt to make one potion? Are they made purely with pottery skill or does it require alchemy? Is there a web site that describes this in more detail? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

well if you didnt find out. Its part of the shawl quest. You have to make the vapors. And it is a gate potion your suppose to give to an npc. But it works for you to.

It seems like there are more and more "Enchant whatever" spells cropping up for Enchanters all the time. I noticed "Enchant Clay" today, anyone know what enchanted clay is good for? Really NICE pots and poision vials?
Enchant Clay is used for making Imbued Idols, deity specific items, which raise stats.
Alrighty. Any fellow rogues out there gimme a hand on this. My plan for my upcomming rogue is this:
Make a barbie rogue, get as high as possible in pottery for the vials and a little money, if I haven't hit the make poison mark yet, master tailoring for a little money maker (I'll be that annoying barbie rogue constantly auctioning off tailored backpacks), hit make poison skill and master/grand master it (I'm not sure how high you can get in the skill). Not a lot to debate on but just tell me what you think, especially concerning the pottery. Donka shan and PEACE!
