Blacksmiths have the ability to forge their own armor and weapons both for personal use and for sale to others.
What are the best strategies for developing and using the blacksmithing skill? What items are the most and least useful ones to forge? Which classes are best suited to take up this trade? Can you make a profit off of blacksmithing, and if so how? Which cities are the best places to practice your trade?
Post your strategies on how to best use and develop the blacksmithing skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.
hey all, i currently made a blacksmith so that i can maybe one day get him high enough to make cult armor and make alittle $$..anyways,what Race/deity would make the most $$ in the high end game, was thinking either human or ogre,,,,but what do u guys think?
Human. Most definetely human. They have the most cultural armor options, and their armor can be worn by a lot of classes.
As for religion, I don't know that it matters so much. You'll need imbued gems to do religion-specifc armor, but you don't have to be of that religion to make the armor. If you want to imbue your own gems, pick a preist class for that diety, but you'll still have to get the OTHER imbued gems from soneone else.
Yes, you can make any deity's armor, if you are the correct race. however, note that Tunare would be a BAD choice if smithing is your main concern, because there is no Tunare human cultural, so ALL your imbued gems would have to be purchased.
However, Before you make plans on how to spend all the money you're gonna make, understand that You'll be smithing for several months before you see 243 skill (which with geerlok, gives you max possible skill).
While there are some time saving shortcuts, like skilling on ornate chain, and mistletoe sickles, these options will drive the cost of attaining Grandmaster status up into the 200 to 500 THOUSAND platinum range. If you have half a million plat, you can GM smithing quickly. If not, it's just not gonna happen. You'll have to grind through old cultural, or shadowscream armor, like the rest of us, which would take Months of steady work, IF you focus ONLY on smithing. I've been smithing for a year and a half in EQ, and have attained a skill of 205. Unfortunately, I was out of town when they nerfed fine plate trivials, so I missed the chance to skill that way.
Just to give you an idea what you face, getting from 199 skill to 200 skill, took me 347 non-trivial combines. This means, pieces of old cultural armor, acrylia plate, mistletoe cutting sickles, etc (just the FINAL combines, the others don't count). 200-205 went pretty fast, but I am now on 63 combines at 205 skill, with no skillup. This is with 255 wis, and a geerlok equipped.
You have to be Human to use the Human forge, but your religion doesn't matter. Therefore, Human smiths have by far the widest range of cultural and dienty armor available to them.
I followed some of the strategy guides to smithing on eq traders and went from a skill of 5 to over 100 this weekend. I am researching the elvenchainmail and the artkeeper stuff because thats what I eventually would like to smith.:p Under the blessed art keepers tunic discussion I saw this comment; 'As with all Tunare diety cultural armor, these use imbued emeralds. To make it for a different diety simply use a different kind of imbued gems. To make this for someone worshiping Karana, use imbued plains pebbles. If you want this for yourself an arent worshipping Tunare, simply find out what your diety gem is, find a grand master high elf smith, and have him make you one'
is this true? Could I as an adherent of Solusek ro substitute my imbued jewel, what ever it is for the imbued emerald(tunare) and produce Blessed Artkeepers Tunic - Solosek Ro only?
I am aware of that site , thanks, but has anyone ever tried with another imbued jewel? Or is it just a given that it will not work? Hmmmm, I'm going to get my skill close to 200 this week and I'll try to see if it works. By the way, what is the jewel for solusek ro?
Get your skill "close to 200" and try the blue diamond cultural? You might as well try it now, as your chances of succeeding don't even BEGIN to go up until AFTER you pass 200 skill.
With 200 skill, you have the same chance of making the armor as you do with zero skill, which is either 3% or 5%, depending on who you talk to.
Now, if you get to 220, and have a geerlok equipped, you MIGHT have about a 1 in 5 (20%) chance of success.
And, yes other gems have been tried. Every posible imbued gem combination has likely been tried, with each of the new cultural armors. EQtraders.com has a very active community of tradeskillers, including hundreds of 250 skill smiths, from all servers. When new recipes come out, all these variations are tried almost immediately.
Recently made some elven chainmail for a female cleric and it turns skin blue i have heard of a fix for this but am not sure what it is and cant find it again plz help. Looks like a tall DE.
Pop into your main EQ folder and delete the .txc files for the zone(s) this is happening in. This also works if you're seeing PCs in wolf form with blue heads and tails.
Next time you log in, the texture cache for the zones you deleted the .txc files for will be rebuilt and should be OK from then on.
I see they have changed trivial on skewers all the traders advice tells you it can take you up to 75. I stopped advancing at 38, doh as if skilling up is not expensive and boring enough. Why can skills not be slightly profitable from the start, after all your taking time out from lvling. It seems to me that trade skills are becoming a bit of a joke and waste of time especially with the bazaar and cheaper drop loot.
Yeah, what gives? My Ranger was making hooked arrowheads and using them to make arrows, which I then used to kill MOB’s. This pattern raised my skill for Blacksmithing, Fletching, Archery and eventually I leveled up. Everything seemed calibrated just right! Now a hooked arrow head that was trivial at 68 is trivial <52 and even steel arrow shafts trivial at 135 are now trivial at <52? They still cost Platinum to make but you learn nothing! Was this done because of the new equipment added with the expansion and if so why not calibrate the pricing at the same time? Why change the rules, would it not make more sense to just raise the skill cap instead??? If they had to do this they could have at least made equal changes across the board, my tailoring trivial’s seem to be the same but Blacksmithing and Fletching are hosed! Unfortunately I started my sills late in life so now with the trivial level change I’m just wasting time making things I can actually use! :( On the posotive side I must say it is a lot easier to find what you need now. I no longer have to run across 5 zones for ingredinats. :)
Can someone tell me about weapon sharpening, If you put, for instance, a Rusty Long Sword in a forge with a sharpening thing, what would it come out as. At what skill level would this work?
You put a rusty weapon and a sharpenting stone in the forge, and you get a "tarnished" weapon back. (Same dmg, slightly lower delay) Trivials at 21, so it's pretty much just good to start off your skill if you don't want to spend your training points.
I started smithing after the trivial changes and so have followed what most of the guides say going to OC then FS and skill is 144 atm. most of the guides however say to make FS visors well im in freeport smithing and a visor mold costs a few pp and a gorget mold costs a few gp. I can sell completed items this way back to vendors only losing a few gp per attempt (not including failures). I use a geerlock is it true there is less chance of a skill up with a geerlock? I am getting 3 skill ups per 20 attempts atm with about 4 or 5 failures with my str at about 205 ( depending who is about to give me a buff)
People have argued that using a geerlok was bad because it took up a slot wthat could be used to increase your primary stat for smithing.
However recent studies have conclusively shown that you are more likely to skill up on a success than on a failure. So since geerlok increases your succes rate, you will also skill up faster, unless you are replacing some +50 stat mofier or so.
So by all means make sure to get a geerlok and use it while skilling up.
I'm looking for a human smith with 250 skill on Cazic-Thule to make some Luminant Heraldic bp and greaves for my main. I have all the necessary components - just need someone's time. If you are able to help out, email Aramanthas@hotmail.com, or send a tell to Aramanthas (GMT timezone). Thanks
Alright can someone please tell me what to do past skill lvl 21 (thats what i am now)im a shaman barb and want to increase my skill lvl past that someone please help me
Skewers to 38 Scalar to 41 Pots to 50 Lanterns to 68 Dairy spoons to 74 Fillet Knife to 76 Lockpicks to 88
Then start on banded armor
I did my early work in Freeport, since they had all the materials, but they've added many things since, so other cities may have all the supplies you need.
Well - you can make metal studs and boning, to get you up to about skill 35. Save them, if you're going to do tailoring as well, they'll come in handy! Lanterns will get you up to 68, dairy spoons to 74, banded gorgets to 92, banded helms to 106 and mail to 115.
After that, you can go through making Ornate Chain and Fine Plate - or if you have cultural smithing, take a look at some of the options in that.
Ok check this out (sorry if this is common knowledge already). For any blacksmith in the skill range of 80-100 or any smith that just can't sell their wares to anyone but want's to make a few bucks this is a real easy way to do so and you never need to find a PC buyer.
Make banded gorgets!!! No, seriously! Ther'es just one catch. Don't buy any small bricks ore ore. Instead make it yourself.
This was done with a cha. in the mid 60-s so your pricess will actually be even better. (I am not including the price of flasks of water because, to be honest, I never bothered to see what it was, but it's negligable.)
Small bricks of ore cost 5-6 gold a piece and making a gorget therefor costs about 1pp2-3g to make. I can only sell them to a merchant for about 8g7s9c. However if you make your own small bricks of ore it the gorget only costs about 3g7s8c to make!!! That's a profit of about .5pp per success and my cha is in the 60's!!!
Not bad for a lvl 10 untwinked dwarf with 20pp in the bank and a smithing skill of 94.
Here's the fastest way to do this that I can think of.
Have 5 backpacks empty (you will only be filling 4 of those with the ingredients you purchase). The other one is to hold on to the sheets of metal and finished gorgets while you empty the 4 full packs.
For 30 attempts: 9 stacks of small pieces of ore 6 stacks of flasks of water 30 banded gorget molds
(that's 45 of 48 slots for 4 backpacks) fill the remaining 3 slots with 2 stacks ore and 1 stack flasks in case of failed attempts
combine 3 small pieces of ore and a flask of water do this twice and you have 2 small bricks of ore
combine the 2 small bricks with a flask and you get your sheet of metal.
keep doing this since the sheets stack but the bricks don't (and the bricks are super heavy) untill you've made 30 sheets of metal.
Then just combine 1 sheet with a mold and a flask.
There you go! Like I said, sorry if everyone knows this already, And this of no use to high lvl players and twinked characters. But for the rest of us there are very few ways to make a profit while smithing without having to find a PC buyer. And this is one of those ways. i hope this helps people.
3. What sort of things can you smith as far as armor goes?
4. What sort of things can you smith as far as Weapons go?
5. For any smith what is the best/cheapest way to go from 115 to 250?
Please dont send me any links ive been to them all im sure, i just want first hand knowledge. Anyways no one exactly knows what all Trolls can smith =)
I must say you have not looked at the right places. The place to look and/or ask for infomation like this is www.eqtraders.com
Im am possitive that you will find the asnwer to 3. 4. and 5. there, any if you post the two first questions, you will get answers to them too.
Now here is the quick rundown thouigh:
1. Yes, if not natural, definatly with modifiers. 2. Depends on your server economy. 3. None 4. See list on eqtraders. 5. Ornate chain -> fine plate -> shadowscream.
I have just learned of this item and would like to find out how to craft it. If anyone has any information on its manufacture I would highly appreciate it.
Halderbane Overdeep 48th Season Dwarven Warrior Orsa Amicitia on E`CI
i would like to know where you get the reciepe for smithing. This is my first character and I am a human war lvl 31. What is the best way to start building this skill. I would like to try and make a weapon and or some armor. any ideas?
Take a look at www.eqtraders.com for all tradeskill needs. There are full details on all smithing recipes there and a few guides to help you get started. Be aware, however, that the guides are out of date as the trivial levels for a lot of smithed items changed in the June patch. The sequence within the guides may still be OK, but the highest you can go making banded now is 115 skill, not 175. There may be new and better options than the guides detail, but I've not looked into it as I managed to get my skill up to 175 before the patch!
I came across a reference to Stormreaper Chainwoven Leggings when I searched for leg items for my Ranger. These are deity specific ( Karana) but all the info I can find about them on Allahkhazam is "this item is crafted by players". I looked through EQ Traders and did not find it. I will be hailing everyone in Qeynos trying to find information about this, but if anyone has knowledge of this item can you please port it here? Thanks! -Scaryb Darkholme
Could someone please tell me the best way to raise my skill from 102 to 250 with the new trivials? And where I can find things? I would be very greatful, and will actually pay plat if you are on Saryrn. YOu can either post here, or e-mail me at Gtharch@earthlink.net. Thanks so muhc for your help, I am really stuck. P.S. - money is not an issue for me, just whichever is the easiest fastest way.
Well if you reall mean that money is no object you do:
Banded to 115 Various ornate chain to 154 Fine plate to 188. Mistletoe Sickles to 250
You can find the excact trivials at www.eqtraders.com to find out exdcactly what banded/ornate/plate pieces to make.
Now the sicles run 300pp per attemlt, and you need around 50 attempts pet skill at that range, so that is 15k pr skill, or approx 1 million pp to get 250.
I collected the HQ ore, I smithed it into the required size, I had an enchanter enchant it, but now I can't get them to combine into an Enchanted Sheet!
I'm using the recipie form EQTraders.com...does anyone have any experience with this?
Why is this obvious? my human smith has made some decent cash on imbued field plate, and would be able to easily sell the enchanted full plate, if I could kidnap and enchanter, and keep it in my basement.
High Quality metal sheets can only be made by human smiths in the two human cultural forges, Freeport forge, and Royal Qeynos forge, in their respective cities. If you are a human, try the cultural forge. The Freeport forge is found in the rear of the warrior guild, just past a regular forge and up the stairs. The Royal Qeynos forge is found near the clock. Luck to you.
Nope, High quality folded sheets, and enchanted folded sheets can be made by any smith in any ordinary forge. but the armor made from them can only be made by humans in the Qeynos cultural forge.
Looking more carefully, EQTraders has TWO recipies for Enchanted metal sheets:
Enchanted sheet of metal: 2 small enchanted bricks of high quality ore, water (this didn't work for me)
Enchanted folded sheet of metal: smithy hammer, 1 enchanted block ore, flask water
Of course, I also see that maybe enchanted sheet metal isn't as useful as I thought, and maybe I should just dump all my enchanted ore on the first human smith I can find.
Did you notice on the recipe for the reguar non-folded sheets, that it says SMALL bricks of enchanted ore? you have to enchant Large bricks, and then make the small ones. 1 enchanted brick of ore (large)+1 water (combine in forge) = 1 small brick of enchanted ore.
Then combine the small bricks to make the enchanted sheet.
(Edit: I had originally attributed the changes to the May 8 patch, but Xaanru is correct in stating it was the June 5 patch that altered a lot of the Smithing trivials. Sorry for any confusion.)
I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, but i'm really confused about some things. I thought you were supposed to get your mold back when you create something. In particular I tried making a couple of files because I'm going to need them when I make arrowheads. I didn't get the mold back on any of the attemps. (I did manage to make one set of files.) So am I right in assuming that you have to buy one mold for each attempt to make a file set, and then use those files for each attempt to make an arrowhead set? If that's the case, those arrowheads will cost a bundle. Any comments?
Molds are only good for making one item. Files, however, are a wee bit different.
If the arrowheads are anything like making studs for studded leather armour, your file will last you the rest of your smithing career. On an unsuccessful combination, you'll get your file back. If successful, drop your arrowheads into your inventory and then the file should appear on your cursor.
Has anyone had any success getting any Lava Rocks off the fire elementals in Lavastorm? Or does anyone know the best place to hunt for Lava Rocks? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
im looking for someone that can answer me some questions about smithing.. ive been told that smithing is becoming a good way to make money in EQ so i thought id give it a try.. i was told to make a barbarian warrior of the diety rallos zek.. anyone know why ? and where can i find a list of the armor this warrior makes due to his diety? and lastly i have seen alot of pages on smithing but i cant seem to find one that no only shows the smithing but also shows the stats for some of the higher lvl items that can be smithed.. anyone know where i can view stats on items that can be made by a barb war of rallos zek diety?? .. ty all taygarr wiz of the 55th season the seventh hammer
Smithing is no longer a great way to earn money, though you can earn a decent amount. I am a master smith of skill 181, on Torvonilous, and have not yet broken even. Prepare to pump a lot of plat into developing your skill.
Go to www.eqtraders.com It has all the info your looking for. It will have the stats for all smithed items in addition to armor. It also has trvials listed, so you know what to be making at certain levels to skill up. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
found this stuff in halas, whipped one up for my shaman partner to reduce pelts from medium to low quality for padding. find these items in halas. i think at the weapons seller. glain 56th tank smithy 185.
There was a patch a while ago and the hilt molds were removed from Freeport. As far as I know they have not been replaced there. But, you can find hilt molds in Butcherblock. They are in one of the three shops right outside Kaladim. (the first shop as you come out of the city I believe) Good Luck.
I am currently at skill lvl 50(wow) and I need someone to tell me the best way to get all the way up to around 125ish on one easy(by easy i mean easily aquired supplies)item. Send me a tell in game =)
Neophant Moonfletch 26th Ranger of Tunare Bristlebane
Is there any way to take Large bricks of Acrylia ore and break them down into small? I got some large from Tenebrous and wanted to start making acrylia arrowshafts but they only require small bricks.
I posted about this previously, but here's a reminder. To split your large bricks down, take a look at: http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/smithing_conversions.htm
You'll need to buy yourself a smithing chisel, have a look at: http://www.eqtraders.com/location/smithing.htm to see where they're available.
