Blacksmiths have the ability to forge their own armor and weapons both for personal use and for sale to others.
What are the best strategies for developing and using the blacksmithing skill? What items are the most and least useful ones to forge? Which classes are best suited to take up this trade? Can you make a profit off of blacksmithing, and if so how? Which cities are the best places to practice your trade?

10pp each seems to be the norm. Charge any more, and the smithy will more than likely gather their own...

you should be able to get the hammer from the fellow that sells you the ore.. after that, you can make a file, as far as a kit.. i've gotten my cleric to skill lvl 135 and have never run across, nor ever needed a kit...

sheets are made from 2 bricks and 1 flask as far as i can remember....but if your not getting skill advancement for doing them dont, just buy them....easier on the finger that way :)

You can buy sheet metal in Kelethin too. It's the guy at the top of the PoD lift.

Is there a Suit of armor or a weap that can be only made by troll.
For exemple , Ogre smith can craft Ogre War Plate suit which can be wear only by Troll and Oggre.

There is a cultural forge in Grobb, but no cultural recipes are known to exsist for trolls at this time. Since the forge is there, it can be assumed that they'll get their own armor at some point. It may be an issue right now trying to decide what sort of ore and temper would suit the trolls, and what stats and appearance it should have. Definitely something to be looking for in the future.

I'm under the impression that trolls are much like half elves.. and have no armor of their own.. but i think trolls can wear ogre plate.

I saw the message below, but I still couldn't find it. Does anyone know where I might get some regular ore in rivervale? I'm a halfling so I really can't buy it from goblins (they're KOS to me). There must be places in town... Let me know if I would have to move to freeport or something... I would REALLY prefer staying where I am for now (I'm only lvl 8). Thanks a lot!

lol, you don't buy from goblins.. you kill goblins, loot the ore. as far as i know i have never been able to locate a vendor that sell hq ore, *shrug* but the other fellow says you can in highpass hold.

In Freeport I know that you can buy Ore. It is in WFP I think, or maybe north, but it is a place called Groflahs Forge. It is not the man merchant but the woman merchant on the far side of the store. She sells lots of Ore. But, you WOULD have to move. Hope this helps.

on some smithing strategy guide i got it says u can make sheet metal with a brick of ore and a flask of water. but in the forge it says i cannot combine these items. i AM using a small brick of ore not piece. my weight of 350 proves it hehe. please set my mind straight. oh yeah, should i just keep making toolboxes to 50? because my skill is 40 right now

Yes, you should make toolboxes, yhey take you up to 51, and that's what I did and it wasn't too expensive either:-) afterwards make lanterns till 68:Lantern Mold, Metal Bits, Flask of Water(Foraged will not work)Hope this helps

i read somewhere, and have since lost the link, that Wizard's of Solusek Ro are able to Imbue a Fire Opal for the High Elven racial armor for a Solusek Ro version of the armor. i have tried the standard enchanted version recipe for elven chain and added in an imbued fire opal. results were that 'these items do not combine...'. sounds like it was a viscious rumor and nothing more. does anyone have any information to confirm or deny this information??

as far as i know the only class able to imbue gems are clerics.. because it has to do with dieties and what not.

And Druids. Sounds like you didn't combine correctly, also I think Elven Cultural armor (seems mostly to be Chain-type) uses imbued Emeralds (Imbued by Druids who serve Tunare) and not Fire Opals.

Get a Tunare-following Druid to Imbue them for you. The Druid spell Imbue Emerald is 29th level

get a cleric of the appropriate diety to imbue the gem for you. gems are often found on vendors somewhere or drop of mobs. depends on which gem you need. and i suspect the gems you find on vendors are often sold to them by players.

I'm starting a new char, and i'm trying to pick a good skill for her [my first character (Febji of Morrel-Thule!!!) was a dedicated drunkard....brewing may not be the most useful skill but it is fun]..... i was going to do alchemy cuz im probubly gonna be a shammy, but i was reading on the alchemy msg board over there and it sounds like that skill isn't really worth-while... thought it would be, since only shammy's can do it and cuz u can make sow potions and whatnot, but i guess it has a high fail rate and costs a b-load to raise.... anyway, i was wondering if smithing was worth-while... if it actually made u some $$$ instead of being just a waste of time and $$$.... i heard that it was a desireable skill if u were planning on joining a guild cuz u could make stuff 4 them... heard it was an expensive skill but handy in the long run... dont know though....
also, i'm strictly an iksar player and was wondering if the smithing impliments were difficult to find for an iksar... ive seen molds and such being sold in cab but no water flasks.... hmm, maybe im just not looking hard enough...

YES! This skill is one of most profitable skills in the game. You will need about 200-300pp to start out though, depending on your server. It is a long road to mastery, but once you are there you will be glad you did it.
As for the Iksar thing, I know that the best Race/Class combo is a High Elf enhanter with their naturally high Inteligence, Wisdom and Charisma, but if your strictly an Iksar player, then choose a class that has high Intelligence, Wisdom, and (if you can find one) Charisma. Hope this helps!

The water flasks are found in West Cabilis in the merchants area to the right of the Necro Guild. The components are found in East Cabilis in the Merchants area beside the forge that is next to the Inn.

as an iskar you can forage water pods. do brewing as well and you can put 4 water pods in a brewing keg and make a flask of water.
i have a skill of 26 how can i get this up faster? i really want to be selling banded soon

My personal preference is to make tool boxes : 1 metal bit + 1 flask of water.. should take you to around skill of 50, after that.. lanterns: 1 bottle 1 lantern casing mold 1 metal bit and 1 flask of water... then come skewers: 1 metal bit 1 skewer mold 1 flask of water... then sewing kits.. 1 metal bit 1 thimble mold 1 neeld mold 1 flask of water. after that you should be well ready to make banded.. in fact some banded items will already be trivial to you.

I am a half-elf and with all the specialized forges I am feeling left out with a smithing skill of 175. I was wondering if the cultural forges can be used by a half breed. Am I allowed to use one or the other forge, both forges, or neither elf nor human forges. I know being a half breed i get certain disadvantages, but limiting my skill that I have worked on so hard seems a true kick in the face.

I sympathize as a Half-Elf myself. I don't know the entire answer, but there is a human forge in South Qeynos, and I was unable to use it. I have not yet tried an Elf forge, but I fear the same will be true. Anyone help here?

half elves.. unfortunately have no racial forge, because they have no racial armor, because for some obsene reason, verant has decided that they have no culture of their own.

Hi all, where do I find high quality ore around Rivervale (I guess that's how you get HQ metal bits)? I need them for smithing Vale studded armor (any hints on that too?). Also, anyone know anything about Imbue clothing...heard it was cool?

Whoot, have an answer for ya. The ores can be purchased from a merchant going to the basement of highkeep (ie:down the hall from the bank), or off of several drops nearby. These include the Mudite's and goblins in Xorbb, the goblins in Runnyeye and the goblins in Highpass Keep basement. Good luck on the little peoples studded armors.

The only place i know of to get High Quality ore is either in runnyeye off the goblins.. which is close to you in rivervale.. or the goblins in solusek.. good luck.

I currently reached lvl 30 in smithing And I need to know what kinds of things I can make in order to increase skill. I also would like to make something that I can sell because so far I have used about 100pp on smithing and would like to start getting some of that money back as soon as I can thanx

Once upon a time as a young smith, I was looking around for more information. I came here and did some reading, and someone had posted a link to something affectionately referred to as the smithing bible. It was a site run by a person who had compiled a huge amount of tradeskilling info in smithing, but I've lost the link over time and was hoping htat someone here may remember it.

I just made my first cultural item:
Dwarven Battle Shield of Brell Serilis
AC 14, Sta +2, Wis +2, SV Fire +5
Ingredients are as the merchant said:
Block of Brellium ore, Dwarven Smithy Hammer, Small Kite Shield mold, Earthen Temper (for regular dwarven shield stop here), also an Imbued Ruby.
I ran all over until I found an enchanter to enchant 3 large bricks of Brellium, then I combined them into an enchanted block, but the forge didn't accept it. I also tried making the block into an enchanted folded sheet, and that recipe was not valid either. Apparently the shield (and I assume weapons) can't be improved with enchanted ore like the armor can.
My skill is currently 173, and this shield is not trivial.

I have a level 8 shadowknight troll, and im just starting smithing. Well if i try to make anything in the forge in grobb, it says it wont accept this combination of items, please go to another forge. It appears the closest forge near me is the one in the Ogre city on the other side of Feerott. I went there, and ive made some Tarnished weapons, and some metal bits, so why wont the one in Grobb work for me? am i doing something wrong? thanks, jestyr

It's possible, my friend that you found yourself the racial forge... And i believe that only racial armor can be made in a racial forge. :) but i'm not sure... someone correct me if i'm wrong.. thanx. :)

You have tp get an alchemist to make a base die which you can then combine with resin to lighten it and put the piece of armor to be dyed with a jar of acid and a jar of laquer (sp?) and the die back in the forge

What should i sell full sets for.
It all depends. Some folks charge by the sheet, 50-75pp/sheet being the average. Others,like me, charge by the AC, 10-15pp/ac. Still others have a more complex system involving the difficulties in smithing the individual pieces.

One of my characters ,Fatangi - a lvl 9 High Elf Enchanter, is a Master Blacksmith at lvl 175. He got help from another of my higher lvl characters ,with about 200pp, to start up smithing. After skill lvl 125 he started make money on banded armor and, since then, running on his own.

For all you master smiths out there, I've a humble question: How did you get started?
I can break this down to a few things, how do you attain smithing tools like a smithing kit and hammer and tongs? Also, what did you do to start out raising your skill and did it raise it quickly or take several ages. I've tried fletching, but it just doesn't seem to click for me, and your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When I started to smith, I found some guides that are posted earlier on, printed the best two. I followed the guides, actually there were quite a few, one with a detailed fast track to skill gain. I followed that guide when i had excess plat. I followed the long hard tedious way of making bits & then items, when i had the time & little plat.
Untill i could make banded armour at relatively high sucsess rates, Then i started marketing the Banded armour, made enough plat selling banded to fast track until i reached lvl 175 & started making FS Plate.

yes, hooked arrowheads: 3 small bricks of ore, file, flask of water
