Blacksmiths have the ability to forge their own armor and weapons both for personal use and for sale to others.
What are the best strategies for developing and using the blacksmithing skill? What items are the most and least useful ones to forge? Which classes are best suited to take up this trade? Can you make a profit off of blacksmithing, and if so how? Which cities are the best places to practice your trade?
Post your strategies on how to best use and develop the blacksmithing skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.
I know that the best place to start smithing is Freeport, however, being a lower level ranger I would like to stick around qeynos for now. My question is, where can i find sharpening stones and other materials i will need in qeynos to start my trade?
Im a 22 iskar in cabelis trying to make metal bits I put 2 pieces of small ore 1 flask of water in the forge and i get the message that i cannot combined these items in this container. Is it that im a warrior or something that im doing wrong.
Another possiblity is that you are using bloodwater rather than water, which is only sold at the vendor near the Necro guild in W. Cabilis. The message you are getting is indicative of that problem. Hope that helps.
As an iksar monk blacksmith, I cannot find skewer molds in my home city. I have scanned the net and have seen that the only place to buy them is Kelethin, out of the reach of my faction. Are there any other places to buy them or will I be in CB for a long time?
I had a hard time finding some molds. I used K.C. Guide to blacksmithing and was able to skip some of these steps to get skill up faster.. On the EQ site they have a blacksmithing mold, metal and forge location chart. Comes in real handy...Good luck.
In Primas strategy guide for Everquest they mentiong a smithing kit, key maker and sharpening kit does anyone know anything about these and where they are found?
First find a good guide online that's easy to follow. Then move to Freeport.
Now for money, just go hunting in East Commons for pelts. Mainly HQ bears but you can still get a few coin for Cat pelts as well. Save them up and then you have a buyer sell them off. I prob made a couple hundred platinum in a few days all of which went into my smithing skill.
Within a couple days I got my skill from about 5 to 120 or so. I'm at 135 now, and it drastically slows down. But what you can do now is start making banded and selling it. Best place I find is Qeynos/everfrost area. I get swarmed with replies sometimes. The money isn't the greatest but it allows you to keep practicing the skill.
I am sure this has been asked several times, but are the tradeskills level dependent--->Does your level determine your max skill, or is it the same as the language skills(no limit based on level)?
I have just been wondering because I have had problems with raising some of my tradeskills--but I have read that they are unrestricted.
I am a level 21 warrior and also a master smith with a skill of 158. I have all the "recipes" for Fine Plate and have found where to buy everything needed to make it. At my level where is a good place to hunt to raise money. I have heard the Overthere is good for loot and am thinking about going there to the mud pit. Any suggestions and ideas would be appreciated, my email addy is norse_god@hotmail.com
I am a lvl 12 untwinked dark elf sk. I spent nearly a week streight hunting skeletons and furry animals, I then sold all of my HQ skins and bone chips. This made me enough money to get to skill lvl 135 ish. Ever since then I've been selling Banded, in a good week I can make a few K. That's the only practical way for a low lvl to fund FP armor without conning someone.
Around that level there really isn't the kind of money you need to make FP.. not easily that is I'm a Necromancer as a main and Warrior as alt.. my necro is 35 and I have it camp Druids in WC, a couple hours of that and there's a couple hundred plat for my warrrior.. if your a goodguy, Jus try buying and selling stuff.. there's good money in that
I have heard of dyeing certain types of armour but I am not sure how and with what. Could someone please give me a link or reference to a site that talks about this. Thank you very much.
Ok all, forthe benifit of you new people, here it is. THE Guide to smithing. Knarmon's Guide to smithing. Read it and read it well. I have 178 skill in smithing and it was made easier by this mans work. He covers ALL aspects of smithing from getting pelts to locating forges, from tempers to quests. I've been try to buy small fine plate for my Dwarf warrior on Bertoxx, but no one seems to be selling small FP. I've tried EC, FP, BB and GFay. Where else should I try? Also, I've just been calling out "WTB small fine plate". Should I try another tactic?
Ask your friends if any of them have dealt with master smiths in the past, and try to look them up. I only rarely go to the common market areas (East Commons on E'Ci) when I want to take FP orders. Most of my business now comes from referrals.
I am a master smith with a skill of 146. I plan on starting to attempt make plate mail as soon as i hit skill 170-175. I was just curious if the smithy hammers used to make the folded sheets and plate mail get "used" in the making of these things and you must purchase a smithy hammer for every piece you make.......
Even non-smiths can figure out what it costs *to make* cabilis scale. Just find the recipes online for each piece and then go and price the materials in the recipe. From my recollection, one-sheet pieces cost around 17pp and three-sheet pieces around 35pp.
Missing from these "costs" are two things: One is failures, which doubles the cost of that piece plus added travel time to obtain materials, and the second is the cost involved in increasing one's skill to around 160-175 to be able to make cabilis scale.
So all-in, you be the judge. I charge 40-70pp per item or a full suit at deep discount for 600pp. I do this without batting an eye for I know the *true cost* of cabilis scale.

I have searched quite a bit and have not been able to locate a "Large Leather Gorget" For Barbarian Cultural Blacksmithy. Could Someone Please Give Me A Detailed Description Of Where To Locate One? So I Far I Am Yet To Prevail.(All Known Vendors Would Be Appreciated, Or Just The One Closest To Halas, Or In Halas For That Matter) Thanks A Ton
Go to www.eqtradeskills.com I believe if the adresse is correct (it is something along those line) you will be able to go to Blacksmithing and then find a list of where everycomponet is sold in Norrath. Good luck!

Does anyone know if Cabilis Scale armor is crafted? I believe it is But I am not sure, and What is the normal cost of it for someone looking to buy? and how easy is it to find.. if you are an iskar that is of course..
Cabilis armor is crafted. it can only be made by an iksar in the cabilis forge at the warrior's guild. A smith needs to have a skill of 170 i beleive, to begin making it. And they won't be able to make all pieces. i hear the cloak for cabilis scale does not become trivial untill lvl 200. And being as it takes around 40pp to make cabilis scale....not to many people really want to keep making it, since failure can be so costly. The average price is 4 or 5pp per AC. (Can't remember) There is also imbued cabilis scale. Each piece of imbued will give extra STR and WIS. Great for a shammy..which is what you need to make it. A shaman needs to imbue a piece of amber and then you just pop it into the regualr recipe for cabilis scale. (the shaman needs to be a lvl 29 to be able to cast the spell)
At least on the Morrell-Thule server, I have yet to see a master smith selling cabilis scale on a per-AC basis. The going rate is 40-70pp per item depending on the number of sheets/scales used and the skill involved in making the item.
As for imbued cabilis scale it is great for shamen, but it is very rare and expensive as the ingredients are such and you have to be a master brewer as well for the temper. At 177 skill I am not willing to risk the precious ingredients to attempt to make anything imbued.
