The Iksar

race logoThe Iksar starts off in Cabilis in the continent of Kunark. Iksar are killed on sight by every other race in Norrath. What is the best strategy for playing a Iksar? What zones and cities should you take him to and which ones should you avoid? Which factions should you work on improving, and which factions should you be wary of decreasing? How can you safely play your Iksar beyond Kunark? What are the best quests for the beginning Iksar? Where are the best shops? How should you role play your Iksar?

Iksar Faction

Hi I want to play an Iksar Monk,
so my question is... in which cities or places
it is impossible to raise faction so high
that im not KoS anymore?

And 2nd question... have Iksar Monks
a better base faction than other
Iksar classes?
RE: Iksar Faction
# Sep 13 2001 at 6:59 AM Rating: Excellent
Iksar all have the same horrible faction to begin with, it's just that the monks have more of the skills that make faction work easier (Sneak, Feign Death, etc).

These are the only places I know of that will NEVER accept an Iksar, meaning that NO ammount of faction work will help:

Halas (Entire city)
Kelethin Bank (Just the Banker)
Rivervale Clerics (Just sneak by the Cleric Guild when you enter)

Anywhere else is, at least theoretically, possible, as far as I know. Good luck!

Iksar shamans
# Sep 01 2001 at 10:21 AM Rating: Decent
To play an Iksar shaman you should first deliver your note to the shaman guild leader to get a 1hb club to start off with. Then go to the swamp of no hope and begin hunting swamp leeches and mosquitos untill lvl 3 or so. Then move on to larger creatures, such as frogloks, large mosquitos and giant swamp leeches, you should hunt these from lvl 3 or 4 to lvl 6. The way you solo them is as simple as a warrior, but one other detail, you buff yourself as often as you can. Once you reach lvl 6 move to field of bone and hunt scaled wolves, scorpians and any other white/ black creature you can get your hands on. The minute you reach lvl 8 i suggest looking for a port to the west commonlands, from there you will go to the east commonlands and join an orc group until lvl 10, hunting orcs will raise your faction with freeport so you can get a bind much easier, but before that you should get a bind in freeport away from the guards (to the left or right wall from the west gate). Then once you reach lvl 10 go join a dervish cutthrought group in north ro (through the tunnel in ec), you should stay in this group until 15 or 16. Once you hit 16 move on to Oasis of Marr, join an orc/ croc group until lvl 20, then when you hit 20 move to south karana (either get a port to north karana and walk to south karana or just plain walk to south karana by going through oasis, south ro, innothule swamp, feerrott, rathe mtns, lake rathe then your in south karana), once you get to south karana look for an aviak group, this group will get you up to lvl 25-26. After lvl 26 you should move around south karana a little bit looking for a gnoll group, this kind of group can last you until 30-31 (32 max if you solo them). This may take a lot of time to do, but this stratagy makes playing an Iksar shaman much much easier than doing it from scratch. The highest lvl i went up to is 32 because thats what lvl my iksar shaman is. And to all you new Iksars out there i wish you the best of luck!

As I have seen in all my travels around Norrath the Monk does give you the best bang for the buck especially in survival at lower levels. The Hand to Hand skill means never having to run around without a weapon. Like a cast a monk is deadly even after death because of the fact that the monk is truly the only class that runs around and needs no real weapons they are deadly enough without them. The Fiegn Death Ability will be invaluable to you and will get you out of a lot of trouble. The Regen and Infravision will also do you a great service later on along with the monk ability to Mend. Always remember a group with a good monk puller is the group that gets the best exp and equipment.

RE: help??
# Aug 28 2001 at 5:01 PM Rating: Default
Definately be a monk. Iksar monks are know to be awesome. You don't really see many high lvl iksar necromancers. Necromancers need intellagenc and iksars don't have it. Besides necromancers aren't supposed to get hit so the regen on an iksar serves no purpose with a necromancer. So what's it's big advantage then?
RE: help??

The plus to being an iksar necromancer - though small, is the regen helps with the dark pact line of spells - (The Necro version of Shammy Cannibalize)
A few tips for beginning Iksar
# Aug 26 2001 at 1:57 PM Rating: Default
I think those of us who get high level Iksar can take a moment to pat our own backs for doing a very good job. Hands down the Iksar's KoS deal makes them the hardest race to play (Note: I didn't say class). Having fianlly hit my 40's, I would like to pass a little of what I have learned since beginning.

1) The quest for the Curscale armor that you an get at level one is probably the best newbie quest. Is this hardcare armor, no. But it works until you can afford more and the XP is great for beginners. I highly recommend this quest.

2) If you are a Necro, Shaman, or ShadowKnight, it is highly advisable to stay on Kunark until you get the invisibility spell of your class. This will make travel so much easier.

3) If you can, befriend a druid or wizard. Porting will save your rear many times over...just make sure you have invisibility on.

4) Field of bone and close to the city in Lake of Ill Omen are great starting places. When you hit your teens start group further in Lake of Ill Omen. At 20's you can start to group by the mudpits in OT, or group Giants in Warslick Woods. Mid 20's to 30 Giants are the best bang for your buck, or if you feel up to it the ledge groups in OT. 30-40 OT ledge groups are good and fast XP. Dreadlands are good for 40+ people. While you can go anywhere you feel like at anytime, these places are close to home and much safer. I found at 30 I had wanderlust and traveled a bit, but since I am a ShadowKnight I have invis to keep me relatively safe.

Playing Iksar is a very hard life. You want so badly to go to other places, but having to be so fa away from banking and shops is very annoying. No body likes you, and building faction get rather annoying. But once you hit your 30's and 40's...you will realize how few Iksar you see, and then you know you have done something that alot of people choose not to attempt.

Good luck brothers!

i The curscale armour is indeed awesome for the level you can do it. You get a whole chunk of exp and a piece of armour. The only thing to watch is that the scaled wolves will swarm and two, or three of them can prove quickly fatal. Still, at the level you're doin' this, you won't lose any exp. (Grab a coupla bags just as soon as you can and you can carry enough pelts, to give Klok Mugruk a filled bag three times! Yay!)

ii Difficult to argue that getting an invis spell won't make travelling easier, but... You can't go out through the port in Firiona Vie, 'cos there're all kindsa people in there that see invis. I can't remember who, but either trust me and it doesn't matter, or don't and then you'll find out I'm right.
The other port outta Kunark is in the Overthere. You have a similar problem here too! Skellies on the dock, who, of course see invis. It's pretty easy to get out this way, swim under the boat on the other side and there is a barrel that slopes like a ramp. And the wrecked hulk, hides you from the skellies. Just don't, erm, run up the dock.
(I originally left Kunark at L30 too, but I bought a port to West Commons. If you do this, bear in mind the following... There is a nice elf lady in the druid ring, who will buy and sell to you. But, very close to the south there are two less friendly elves, who will pull bits off you and leave them strewn about the place. I didn't know this and bound myself by the ring. (It seemed safe...) Ouchies!))

iii You don't need to befriend anyone. Just like the real world, everything is for sale in EQ. You can buy ports outta Kunark pretty easilly from the Overthere. (No doubt other places too, but that is where I left from. Every other time, I have used the ships.)

iv You don't actually need to go further than Kurn's tower to get to L25! You can hunt quite happilly in the pit in the Field of Bone and in Kurn's for a long long time. Certainly, the Field of Bone is the very best newbie zone I have come across. Compared to the likes of Nektulos forest, it's a god-send!

The faction issue does make life hard. Especially if you want to explore. I wanted to explore... I did so... And I have paid what has been, a pretty high price for it... But, it does have an up-side. If you were a nice person, you'd wanna be careful about who you hunt. But, if you're an Iksar, everyone wants to kill you, so you don't have to worry about ******** your faction up. (Maybe this isn't such a good idea. *Grin*) Either way, faction can be fixed. :)

Certainly, I have enjoyed playing an Iksar. It could be easier, but that's ok. If you wanna join the hordes of the scaled, don't let the bad stuff put you off.

AlAaaraaf.

Ive played almost evry different combination of so called "good" races and i have to say that the Iksar Necro i created has taken over all my attention from them. It is such a nice chang of pace to be in Cabalis-i had started to become a little bored or burnt out from EQ so i tried an Iksar-evil race and evil class - i love em', he gets more attention than my main as of lately.
If your playing this game just to level real fast your missing out on the fun of this game-i started my warrior that way-always avoiding things just to gain xp. Finally i stopped the madness and slowed down to travel the many areas and try new combinations of characters and ive learned to appreciate the game alot more-its fun again, not a race to the finish line

Well to be honest here..if your playing a lvl one iksar stay in the field of bone.. that is the newbie starting area.. much safer there and alot more people to get together with..most run by you in warslik is because your too low a lvl and you wont get any xp there. I have a lvl 10 Shaman and a lvl 2 Necro and both are still in field of bone. Just a little advice, but its all up to you.

for starting iksar at level one you should go to swamp of no hope and kill till level three than move to field of bone and kill scorps and skellies till you can get into the pit. than find a group and level till you drop about level nine with a good group you can stay in the ent area of kurns and mess up some scalebones for the added exp that kurns gives. than it's smooth sailing that is unless you decide to leave than i suggest you hang in oasis with a bind in west freeport and kill crocs till level 20. than you should be fine to do what you want.

they kick out damage very fast and dodge comes in handy too! They dont have the massive hit points that warriors get (when you play trolls or ogers)
but mend is just the godsend of sweetness i highly implore all to try the iksar monk race/class. there is plenty to do on kunark before you decide to leave it explore. just stay within your boundries (dont take on reds by your self!!!) also do the shackle quests they give good exp! who cares that you cant be around other races! this leads to a certain mysterious nature about iksar. if any newbies need help or info in any way i play manyteeth on the xegony server ....send a tell!!! I am a level 13 human enchanter and am not proud to be a human. The only reason I chose to be is because every city besides Freeport completly sucks. When I am finished with my human I would like to start and Iksar. I know that monks are probably the best for Iksars but what else is good for Iksars and what is not good for Iksars. When I start this new Iksar I am hoping to get teleported off of Kunark right away, is this possible when Iksars can't be wizards. Are there ever any wizards around, if not how do you suggest traveling or if I have to staying and hunting.

Go Shaman. Iksar Shamans are great, but underrated. Regen is very important to shamans as the faster you get your HP back, the faster you can get back your mana (Canibalize). Iksar Shamans also get their own very nice planar armor. Shamans are great in groups and can solo incredibly well at high levels. I think Shamans are the only class that can solo dragons (maybe necros too). Make a shaman and see if you like it. If not, make whatever you want.
BTW...Iksar Warriors are second best warrior race (Ogres cant be stunned from the front). The fact that you cant wear plate is unimportant in the long run. Almost all velious armor can be worn by iksars. Velious armor is almost always better than pre-Kunark armor (obviously Cobalt>Ry`Gorr etc). RFV is easy to get, especially if you join a guild on Giant Faction, and it is pretty cool looking on iksars. All the quest armors are great and iksar wearable as well.

I like the Shadowknight class for Iksars. They have decent stats, regeneration, infravision, excellent swimming skill, and a higher natural AC. No doubt, I think the Iksar SK's are the most powerful of all the SK's, but so have a drawback in that they can't wear all the best SK armor. They do have Dreadscale, though. And Ry'Gorr looks GREAT on mine! Anyway, I have a lvl 28 dark elf sk, and a lvl 15 Iksar sk... by far, i like my Iksar. I also like fighting in Kunark, even with my Dark Elf. I wouldn't waste my time trying to leave Kunark until.... well.... EVER! Good luck, though!

No iksar can't be wizards but the make excellent necromancers. And about you saying every city bar freeport sucks. Well i've been to all of them and each one has its own perks. Felwithe and Kelethin (you can count them as one they are so damn close) are very good cities for tradeskills. I found their selection to be far superior than Freeports. Cabilis is one of the best or maybe the best city in all norrath. (The iksar had to have some place for tradeskills)and the hunting grounds are incredible, so I dont see why you'd want to leave for the first 20 levels or so, at least. My high elf is there at level 17 well now 18 and the only reason he'll leave kunark is for a few reasons, get spells once i hit new, practice some tradeskills, go to Soleusk Ro for a quest and go somewhere for some cool item, like Guk. Oh i forgot, Iksar make great necromancers, Shadow Nights, Monks, Warriors and Shaman. In other words, they are great at what they do. I really think you are taking a real negative aspect to the game, besides Cabilis, no city is going to have the best resources available in every tradeskill or anything else you want. Why aren't you proud to be human anyways, no night vision. If you actually looked at positive aspects maybe you'd like the game a bit more.

i currently have a lvl 2 iksar necro and by far hes the most entertaining alt i've ever had. its okay for him to try to overbear at early lvls as long as no more than 1 mob is on him due to him regen and naturally high ac. but having his little skellie pet on top of the necro spells is absolutely viscious. i've soloed reds (and he is not a twink above spells and minor armor no magic items) just with continous pets and dd spells. besides iks have the ability to forage, so once they leave kunark they can avoid those pesky guards. i don't know if necro is the best iks class but i know iks is the best necro class. hell yeah!

Iksar Necros are pretty decent and the Shadow Knights are GREAT too.

You can go to Overthere and catch the boat to Oasis of Marr, via Timorous Deep. Read this http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/boattravel.html to learn more about how travel from Kunark to Antonnica and Faydwer works. It's not that difficult.

I can't see what's so terrible about Kunark, but if that's the way you feel about it...

Those fleshy types get under my scales but one has to be pragmatic.
My Iksar Monk needs to know;

1. Anyone have a ball park figure on how many Deathfist orcs need killing to make N freeport safe for banking? Post here.

2. Anyone know how many Blackburrow Gnolls I have to kill to walk past the nice soft skinned Queynos guards without having to kill them.

RE: Faction
# Aug 21 2001 at 8:08 AM Rating: Excellent
From a Darkelf SK, I got a very loose number of 800 orcs. I'd immagine it was something similar with Iksars.

As for the Gnolls...Something similar, I'd guess. It is a similar town and the gnolls pose a comparable nuisance to the guards. This, however is just my guess.
RE: Faction
# Aug 26 2001 at 3:42 AM Rating: Default
Umm to be honest you can most likely bank after killing several hundred orcs, but you will never be anything but kos to the guards there..they are some guards there that are not part of the freeport milita faction, but rather part of the cleric/paladin faction. I know this because of my Paladin and upon completing my quest with soulfire and my faction standing went way up with almost every npc in North Freeport and went down with all the freeport milita to the worst possible kos there is. So if you do this be exremely careful to check all cons before getting to close to agro.

As with all races with natural regen, this ability also increases at lvl 50 from 3/6 standing/sitting to 6/12 standing/sitting, very nice eh? With an ikky BP u would have 12/18, and with a fungi, 18/24! Slap a chloroplast on me and watch me go!

RE: Gnolls
# Aug 26 2001 at 3:48 AM Rating: Default
You know that is a tough question. My Ogre warrior was in blackburrow from lvl 5 all the way to ten and I must have killed several hundred gnolls and Im still kos to the guards. So now I have several stacks of gnoll teeth that I cant even turn in there.. such a waste. Not to mention that I ended up with so much stuff that I had the weight of over 280 stones..well beyond my normal capacity. So I hope someone can figure that out for you.. but it might not even be possible for an iksar to get into any good city. My Paladin has the highest possible standing with the iksar city and there is no way I can get past most of the guards there..Oh well.

RE: Cured Silk Bracers
# Aug 17 2001 at 5:04 AM Rating: Excellent
The Cured silk is ONLY made by players, that is, it is not something you can expect to buy from vendors. Whenever you come by a Cured Silk piece in a merchant's sellection of goods, it is because another player has sold it to him.

There are no merchants who regularly sell Cured, so the best thing to do is to run around screaming "WTB cured silk Bracer. Give tell!" This becomes much easier if you can supply some silk yourself (Easy to come by in the FoB)

If you were playing on Xev, I could set you up with some Cured pieces I have left over.

ive made a human monk to lvl 20, when i decided i wanted an Iksar, cause they are better monks, well when i make my Iksar monk, what should i put points into? should i dump them all into streanth?
RE: what monk stats
# Aug 16 2001 at 7:53 AM Rating: Excellent
Human monks would go for all STA, but with natural armor and regeneration, this is not as high a priority. Lots of STR is good, but there is still some discussion about the effects of AGI and DEX. Personally, I did +5 STR, +10 AGI and +5 DEX, and I am doing MARVELOUSLY well. FAR better than with any other character I've ever played. Some would say that I made a mistake putting points into DEX and AGI, but I truly believe there's more to it than just the rate at which you get skill-ups. I am doing very, very well indeed, and my gear isn't that spectacular (take a look).

Anyway, STR is good, but it is also one of the easiest stats to get bonusses for. STA is good, but not that critical for Iksars, so I think I did well to chose the way I did. Maaaaaybe I would put all in strength if I were to do it again, but that would be just to see the difference, if any.

These things aren't really as critical as all that, as long as you don't dump everything in CHR, for instance.

I want to not take the path of FOB Kurns and LOIO for an Iksar instead i want to go to east commons dervs orcs oasis for lower levels and i was wondering how i could get faction up with someone around there so i could sell buy from merchants.

If you really want to, the best way is to kill ten billion Orcs. Then you can shop in Freeport. This quest: http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/quest.html?quest=613 can be used to boost faction with the Merchants and rogues of Freeport, but it doesn't give enough positive faction with the militia to be worth while.

You can also do quests to boost faction with FP guards, but most that benefit the Militia (East and West FP) will harm your standing with The Knights of Truth (North FP) and vice versa, so Orcs are still the best way.

Also, killing the greenskins will boost your faction with "Commons Ressidents" which are the merchants in the huts in WC and EC (They are NOT FP Merchants).

This is the best advice I can give, but I don't see what's wrong with the zones on Kunark...Especially Oasis is a TERRIBLE place to be...It's full over Power-Levellers and the crocs and caimans that you hunt here yield virtually NO loot at all.

IMHO - You are full of Sh*t. To say that you made 60 in 5 days is laughable. 24 x 5 is 120 hours (assuming you didn't sleep in 5 days) - so on average, 2 hours per level. There is no way in HELL you made it through 51 or 54, little own 59 in even 2 days each.

You may be a level 60 grand master, but you sure as hell didn't do it in 5 days (and to think that this was even possible makes me think that you are around level 12.)

Jeebus man you took all the fun of roleplaying and threw it out the window..Im happy for you that you made lvl 60 in five days..but I know this much.. you sure as hell didnt solo with a monk all the way there. You definatly had to group sometime. As for doing it so fast you didnt have much sleep either and waaaaaay too much time on your hands..unlike some of us that have to work for a living and take care of thier children so big deal if you did in that fashion. I am happy to say that my guild isnt so worried about how fast one lvls or gets the ultimate gear so fast. Now what...start a new character and do the same thing all over again. Heheh you gonna get bored of this game fast.

Easy on the caps-lock, ;P

Anyway, yes I agree. The Iksar are a brilliant race, but thankfully there is much more to the game than getting to 60th as fast as possible. I fear the day that happens...What will I do then?

I hope people also look at what is FUN to play, not just what's EASY (Ofcourse, most times when things go really well, it's fun). I've just started an Erudite Shadow Knight, and he is SUCH a wimp, but he's fun to play!
