Hey i was just wondering how difficult is it for a Newbie Vah Shir to get to the nexus? Just windering because my buddy says if i can get the warrior i started down to greater faydark he''l twink me. I know twinking is wrong but these days you never wanna pass up a good deal. Anyways, as i asked, what is the easiest way to the nexus from shar vahl. THANKS

With a few deaths and some skillful vectoring, I made it through to Paludal at level 1. However, from the "pool" area where the aggro critters start, ther is very little option save getting a camo/invis. (Unless you are a rogue who can hide/sneak through.)

Cats
# Dec 28 2001 at 10:55 AM Rating: Excellent
I have found that the Cats make superb warriors and rogues, their starting stats make then excellent for these roles.

My warrior started with a 100str, 100sta, 100agi, 85dex, 70wis, 65int, and a 65cha. Awesome stats for a feline warrior, I can imagine the rogues start with a kick **** batch of rogue related stats as well.

If you want to play a cat I recommend these two classes, the fact that you can start with a 100 in 4 of the primary warrior stats just rocks.

# Dec 28 2001 at 11:50 AM Rating: Default
I just noticed, as I was looking at the equipment I was about to transfer to my new Vah Shir character that Vah Shir are the ONLY race that cannot wear the Fungi Tunic (Fungus Covered Scale Tunic - Fungal Regrowth). I can't believe this! Why hamstring a cool new race like that? I assume it's so there are no 60th Vah Shir beastlords a week after the expansion and they will eventually let them use it, but I just think it's really lame.

And to all you anti-twinkers out there: Get yourself a nice level 6 warrior with a fungi and a lammy and take him into Crushbone to kill red Legos and tell me you don't have a good time! I dare ya!

Kitty Beastlord Too Easy?
# Dec 26 2001 at 4:42 AM Rating: Default
Is it just me or does the Vah'Shir Beastlord sound like a REALLY easy race/class combination? I mean, the kitties already start out with decent stats, but making one a beastlord is overkill. Heck, a beastlord sounds too easy by itself, I mean they can cast pets, their pets can cast spells, they can cast spells, plus they can melee! It just doesn't seem very fair to the other race/class combinations that this combo sounds too good to be true. Also don't pay attention to this post if it sounds like I'm just ranting without knowing what I'm talking about, I'm writing this at 2 in the morning with no sleep. -.-

# Dec 18 2001 at 7:00 AM Rating: Excellent
it seems to me that the only reasons to pick a kitty over another race are: they look cool, they dont seem to be kos anywhere, and they have a well developed line of quests... stat wise they are not very good. especialy if your making a beastlord you should consider the other races (mainly the iksar for their wisdom and regen). i would love to have one of these cat people but the only reason i would chose them is for the non kos thing really, cuz quests are fun but twinking is more fun, and lets face it, the new iksar skins are amazing..plus the new troll skins..geez

Yes, the Iksar skins are very interesting indeed. Nevertheless, it would seem to Us that the reason to coose a Vah Shir as opposed to other races is simply because you wish to do so. At the higher end of the game, there are plenty of stat-modifying equipment that can easily make up for whatever lower starting stats one might have. Essentially, it is all about fun, and though We are Iksar and personally dispise the softskins, We can easily understand one's desire to be a member of the cat race.

I think that QueenUsula is pretty smart. She is right about this and I agree with Warric that all of us ought to read her post and think about it when we create a character for the game. Because if I want to play a Ranger because I like Rangers from when I used to play AD&D stuff and remember that was fun then that is my personal choice and makes no difference to other people. Just my opinion, but I am glad to hear other people saying the same thing as I think about.

Great post, QueenUsula. I'd like it if everyone would read your post and remember that the three things you spoke of are, arguably, high among the most important things to keep in mind when choosing a character's race/class:

1. Play whatever YOU want to play.

2. ALL race/class combinations have some degree of limitation that items can lessen the impact of.

3. Have FUN.

I can confirm that Kaladim, Kelethin and Felwithe are mostly Indifferent with some Apprehensive scattered about. Doing the bone chip and belt quests netted me Amiable in Kaladim. I am still curious about the dark race cities though.

Innate sneak means that if your aren't KoS, you can bank and trade freely. Nice.

Paineel is not KOS to Vah Shir. My shammy started at dubious. Funny thing though... I took him to Kerra Isle and visited our cousins there. They were not that friendly either. One even told me that I was a "furrless one". =\ I was fine visiting there, until I tried to swim out to the small island. Got on the island and I find this pit with a wild tiger in it. Well, the tiger must have thought I looked juicy. He jumped out of his pit and charged me. When he did, our cousins were quick to assist him. I felt betrayed.

Ummm, this was either changed recently or never was. Dunno, I haven't had much time to check between the exping.

I wasn't KOS in any good city or Erudin's outside guards (haven't been inside Erudin yet). I wasn't KOS in Oggok (sp?), cept for being threat to the guards. I was threat in pretty much all of Neriak, cept the Rogue guild. Haven't checked out Grobb, Qeynos, inside Erudin, Paineel, Surefall, or the Iksar city (can't think of the name, I'm dead tired) yet.

I would also like to add I have NEVER killed any NPC or done any quest that would harm any linked or direct factions to these cities. bi bi

1) NO ONE is KOS in Shar Val

The thicket is not a newbie zone, that would like calling east ad west commons newbie zones. this zone is a place where on could go from about 4 to around 20 or 25. the newbie zone is under the city yo will also get this answer from talking to the guards who say that the pit is used for training the young

It's not overly hard, although several creatures have massive cross-agro. My main problem seems to be getting anything to sell. Most of the drops are No Drop, limiting my ability to sell.

The reason that most of the items in the pit are no drop is that is where most of the items needed for individual quests will be gotten. The pit is divided up with a newbie side and a more advanced newbie side. The south bridge that goes to Shadeweaver's Thicket is the place to go first and there are guards there to run to in the pit, they are on the wall, just look for them. Start with the beetles first, then move up to needle rockhoppers, skeletons, then worms. The more advanced area of the pit is under the north bridge that goes to Hollowshade Moor. Start with beetles on this side, these are higher level, then go for scorpions, there are three kinds, and young rockhoppers. Also there are a few grimlings running around too, I was still getting XP on them at level 6. After about level 5 or so you will want to go to Shadeweaver's Thicket and hunt. In the Thicket there are merchants to sell to and a bank so no need to constantly zone over and over because your slots are all full. This area should last you until 10 or so.

After 24 hours or something of straight playing, i cant quite remember all the stats on the vah shir so forgive me if i miss something,
they can be beastlords, bards, warrriors and......shammy i think. although you would assume they would make good monks, and all cats on kerra isle (for the most part) are monks, you cant be one. and some people were talking about them making good rogues, barbs are still better stats. however i admit that they look pretty damn awesome. im still wondering why they would be a better bard then monk. by the way, i visted stables in nexus... or shadowhaven whereever it was, its so easy to get lost there you never know where you are, horses start at 8k, up too 100k 8 being some kind of horse with just SoW or something and 100k being the one double SoC(spirit of cheetah),(or it better for that price). To finish, going back to the point, the cats stats look like an iksars.(good job verant, iksars look awesome now).

Hail, Norratheans! My name is Gallius of the Gatecallers of Erudin. I am writing a book, A History of Odus, Part I, about the true history of the vile Vah Shir and their kin, the Kejekans and Kerrans. I have collected bountiful information about their kindred, but I am missing a piece of the puzzle. When the Vah Shir were blown (literally) to the moon, was this done intentionally in an Erudite-Vah Shir conflict or unintentionally in the Erudite-"Heretic" conflict? I would also like to know of any other sources I might look into for historical information about this race.

According to Computer Gaming World, the playable classes for Vah Shir are: Beastlord, Warrior, Shaman, Bard and Rogue.
BTW, their starting city is Shar Vahl, "a large marble-walled city that lies in the center of a large crater formed by the impact of the chunk of Norrath that crashed into Luclin".

Vah Shir Bards?

Some Thoughts on Vah Shir classes
# Nov 19 2001 at 2:00 AM Rating: Default
- It has been stated that Beastlords will be a Shaman/Monk hybrid. Perhaps they might have a few tweaks but that is the basis for the design.

- I dont know if everyone is aware of this but the Vah Shir will be able to be other classes beside Beastlord. That is why u see Vah on other types of armor and such. I hope the other shamanistic races are going to be able to be Beastlord. I think that outta be kinda fun to see a troll or ogre or barbarian whackin away with his fists. I know that the beastlord will not be a normal monk, he will be much weaker but with the kind of dmg a monk can do then Barb, Ogre and Troll beastlords should be wicked damage dealers. Much higher starting strength than either the Iksar or Humans.

- As someone else posted (can't remember who) Beastlords will have be able to solo and I think rather effectively. A reduced monks dmg put with healin spells and a pet along with buffs should make for one tough fighter. Especially if they retain the Feign Death skill. I would worry about the class being to good and Verant nerfing at it. I cant wait to see a Beastlord wearin a fungi and dual weilding JM's. That will be a quick trip to 50.

- Question 1: does anyone who has found some armor with Vah on it have any ideas as to what other classes Vah will be? I think monks and beastlord are a given and I would assume war and shaman also. I would rule out cleric and druid as most shaman races dont have other healers. This also rules out rangers and pallys. This leaves only int casters and sk's. Now Ogre's, Troll's, and Iksar all have Shadow Knights despite being shaman classes(seems verant likes to have wis casting races be able to be sk's), so Vah Shir might be able to be Sk's but the Vah Shir do not sound like a evil race to me so like the Barbarians i would not think they could be sk's. But then erudites and humans can be either evil or good so u never know. Iksar have Necro's but they are the only shaman or druid race, cept humans to have int casters. And Barbarian's have rogues, so there is yet another possibility. On this web site they asked the daily question of "Do Vah Shir bards sing the stray cat song?" which leads me to believe that Vah Shir might be able to be bards. So that is Shaman, Monk, Beastlord, and War i figure are a given. Cleric, Druid, Ranger, Pally, Necro, Shadow Knight i figure are out. I also feel that Vah Shir won't be Enchanters or Wizards. That leaves Mages, Rogues, Bards, and i highly doubt mages. anyone have some info?

- Question 2: This is just speculation but does anyone think that there will be less uber zones in Luclin? I know there will be some to keep the uber guilds happy but with Velious being so geared to high levels and so much of it going unused by most players, one might draw the conclusion that Verant might devote more time to the mid, and low level zones and let the high levels stay in Velious for a bit. Of course that is logical thinking and Verant has shown a penchant for not doing things logically.

- From what i have heard about the horses is that u buy a horse (put in ur guess at price here), and u get a horse whistle(not official term) and u can summon your horse in any outdoor zone. No the horse doesnt come running up and u jump on, i think u just pop up on a horse. I have also heard that u can fight on the horse just like normal and that horse does not take damage. I have heard that there are different types of horses u can buy, or that they have different speeds, or that there is just 3(small, med, big) for the 3 sizes of races. I have also heard that the races that fill 2 sizes(barbarian = large/med, woodelf = small/med) will get med horse only, not choice. I understand these horses to be fancy jboots that cost more, look a hell of a lot cooler, dont have to be put on, and go a little faster. Just some thoughts. Let me know what ya think.

But can you take tem anywhere? im really confused about that part, surely i thik you keep the horse as long as you like considering your paying 20k! One thing i am REALLY looking forward to is jousting, i sall a screen shot of it the other day, really awsome idea!! this is starting to sound a little western but will the horses get saddle bags? or you can buy one for them? it would really make traveling easyer to have a companion like that. if horses are going to be made for mainly going faster.... is it really tha worth it to buy?

Um... let me get this straight...

This game has a race of walking talking lizards...

You can cast magic spells that summon balls of fire to fight for you...

hoping frogs can be tougher one on one then a veteran human fighter...

their is not one ugly member of any of the normal looking races (ie not one fat human)...

their is not one child anywhere (of the playable races) yet players get made everyday...

you can get hacked by a sword and NOT die in one hit...

Dragons (self explanatory)...

the breasts on the barbarians would literally give them all back problems by age 20...

every female starts near half naked with like 2 exceptions...

at this point by my count over 120,987,461,302 sarnaks have been killed... yet they still have veteran soldiers pop up after the old ones have been killed...

a low level ogre naked with nothing can be beat in HTH by a mid level gnome (wizard)...

MANY other...

And your upset because their going to make the game LESS life like?

Jesus man, whats your real life like? i want to move to that state. That'd be like frikkin' heaven.
