The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task begins with Advisor Thasil (click for map image) on Thuliasaur Island.

    Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
    - Minimum Level 95
    - Minimum dubious faction with The Thaell Ew

Say "missing" to request the task.

    You say, 'Hail, Advisor Thasil'

Advisor Thasil says 'You there, _____! Your help is required. It sssseems that one of our hatchlingsss has gone [missing]. Our ssscouting force is ssstretched too thin to go looking for the child so we mussst sssseek the help of sssstrangers.'

    You say, 'Missing?'

Advisor Thasil says 'The shopkeeper in the eassst should have the sssupplies you need.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Night is Dark'.

Advisor Thasil is concerned about a hatchling that has gone missing. Sadly none of the scouting parties feel safe enough to travel beyond the temple walls at night, so he has enlisted your help in finding the lost child.

You will need to equip and purchase a large lantern. Despite the fact that your armor gives off a respectable glow during the evening hours the dense darkness of the jungle calls for the use of this old fashioned tool. You should be able to purchase a large lantern from the Thaell Ew shopkeeper in the eastern temple.

The advisor feels that the hatchling will be more trusting of you if you are able to provide it with a light souce of its own. Just for safety's sake you should probably purchase two torches. The Thaell Ew shopkeeper in the eastern temple should also be able to provide you with the torches that you will need.

Purchase a Large Lantern 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Purchase two Torches 0/2 (Thuliasaur Island)

These items can be bought from "a Thaell Ew shopkeeper" (won't sell to you at dubious unless you're sneaking behind it).

Use the lantern to search the central forest at night 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

This is a location update that must be done between 7:00 P.M. and 4:00 A.M. game /time, at location -120, 140, 54. Make sure your lantern is equipped, go to this location at night, and a lizard hatchling spawns. Once it spawns, you can unequip the lantern.

You think you hear something scurrying around in the darkness so you raise your lantern out in front of you.

A small Thaell Ew hatchling steps out from the shadows.

The lost hatchling child looks up at you, seemingly less afraid of your visage than the rest of the forest. It looks upon the lamplight in your hand and whispers, 'Friend have torch?'

Give the lost hatchling a Torch 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Task Window Says: The lost hatchling has made an appearance! Offer it one of the torches you purchased.

The hatchling starts heading north. Stay within 60' range of it.

a lost hatchling graciously accepts the torch, holding it above its head. It calls out in a confident but quiet voice before running off, 'Home, this way, friend follow!'

Escort the hatchling back home 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Follow the lost hatchling, staying within 60' range of it. Be warned that it will lead you across the ankylosaurus area, and some of them see invisibility. They're not likely to aggro, but it's possible. Eventually, it will cross the river and enter the northern part of the raptor area, where you're ambushed by 1x "an ambushing raptor".

Defend the hatchling from the ambushing raptor 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Task Window Says: Quickly! Kill the raptor that aims to make a meal out of the hatchling!

The hatchling shrieks and drops its torch as a vicious beast leaps from the shadows at it!
an ambushing raptor dashes forward with incredible speed.

Kill it within six minutes, or the task auto-fails. It hits for a max ~15,000 and has ~2.5 million hitpoints.

an ambushing raptor has been slain by _____!
an ambushing raptor's chokes on its own blood, unable to unleash a deathcry.

The battered hatchling looks ashamed as it quietly calls out to you, 'Friend have more torch?'

Give the lost hatchling another Torch 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Task Window Says: The hatchling lost its torch in its attempts to defend itself from the raptor. Good thing you purchased an extra torch!

Give it another torch within two minutes, or the task fails.

a lost hatchling graciously accepts the torch. The child then tugs gently on your arm, 'Friend now lead, I follow. Please find home.'

Escort the hatchling back home 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Escort it north into the Thaell Ew camp, to the Advisor's location within 10 minutes (or the task fails). Keep within 200' range of it. If you go outside this range, you see a warning emote:

The lost hatchling looks around nervously having lost sight of you!

At the end of the path, you see:

Advisor Thasil is deeply grateful for your assistance in retrieving the child.

The hatchling exclaims joyfully as it sees Advisor Thasil before quickly running into the crowd to join its brethren.

Hatchling leads the way to the ambush, follow to the west side to avoid ankylosaurus agro.
For the final leading stage, lead the way slowly, this time skirting east of the triceratops. Have an exterior camera angle on so that you see whether the hatchling follows. Take it nice and steady. Job's a good'un.

Three times I got to the point where he is supposed to follow me, and every time he starts following me I only get a short distance before he just disappears and then I cannot find him. It's SO annoying!

    ==================

Tried a 4th time. I gave him the second torch after the raptor fight, and then I stood there for maybe 10 seconds getting ready to walk him home, and he just blinked out of existence! Didn't walk away, but disappeared!

A great line from Game of Thrones! I saved this mission for last (of the 28 mercenary tasks on Thuliasaur Island) because escort missions can be a pain, especially for a multi-boxer. But this one isn't bad at all. It helps to do the following:

    1. Park your group at the spot where the raptor spawns. Leave them all there except for #2...
    2. Send a tracker with the toon looking for the hatchling.
    3. Once the hatchling spawns, keep it on track.
    4. There is no need ever to get agro from any other mob. The hatchling's path doesn't really come close to any see-invis mob, altho he does come close to an adult ankylosaurus. He moves pretty slow and with track there's no danger of ever losing him.
    5. On the final leg, when he's following YOU, it does take a little effort to get him to cross the east-west stream. I suggest leading him a little west, then he is able to path across the stream. It's pretty much a straight north run to the Thaell Ew fort, keeping east of the see-invis stegosauruses.
    6. Actually raptors can add to the spawned fight so might be worth clearing the couple of raptors who run close to that area.
    7. Keep invis up.

the lost one just runs away can not find him after the ambusher is killed and I gave it another torch. I had him on my target and the extended window until it despawned. I went back to the advisor and hailed him he says to return to the spot last seen??? does that mean I have to kill the ambusher again??

The hatchlings seem to follow more then lead the way. Follow the quest or it will fail and you will have to do it again.

Alright first off, you need faction to buy the lanterns/torches from the merchant here. No idea if you can buy them in another zone but, it pays to have an enchanter with alliance =)

Next, if you have more then 1 person in group who is doing the task, buy extra torches.

When you go to the darkness spot, you will get a lost hatchling per person doing the task, and they are assigned to specific toons. It is easy to confuse which hatchling you are doing the hand in to, pay attention!

When you get to the ambush site, you will get 1 ambusher per person doing the task. Please note , your tank merc wont care if your hatchling is being eaten. The mercs simple WILL NOT attack until you get the raptor to change targets to someone in your group. I didn't lose a hatchling but got one to 50% before getting all of them to switch targets.

Ambushers are not mezzable, but are rootable. Push root worked for me.

When doing the second turn in, all hatchlings stand on top of each other... making the turn in dicey. Again, hope you brought extra torches.. and pay attention to which hatchlings name lights up when you turn in the torch before completing the trade.

After the ambushers , the hatchling follows you now. Parents will understand what its like having the kid follow you without a leash.. but more accuratly this means using SOE's pathing. When I crossed the river, this for some reason ment the hatchling needed to speed a half mile down river, do a circle, speed back, run through the raptors, moon the campfire, speed a half mile upriver, before coming back and going up the embankment 3 feet. In other words... pay attention! Your hatchling may be following you but the pathing sucks till you are in lizardman territory.

First phase of the escort, the lizard leads the way up the edge of the ankyls. If you stay close to the river you shouldn't get aggro. If he gets too far, he just stops and waits for you to get close again. He'll cross to the raptors and get attacked. Then falls to the ground while you kill it. After that he'll follow you, at least in 50ft steps or so. Go too far and he loses you and runs around. But, you can guide him up to the east of the tri's through the butterflies, where they don't aggro.
