You say, 'Hail, Firiona Vie' Firiona Vie says 'You were able to [find] Dreezil. Now we must [strike] before Lanys can find us.' You say, 'Strike?' Firiona Vie hesitates. '_____, you were there in Katta Castrum. I... failed. My mission, the time I spent healing Tsaph -- all that was taken from me without my being able to raise my sword to stop it. I was [unprepared].' You say, 'Unprepared?' Firiona Vie says 'For Lanys, the invasion, the death and injury of good people and friends. And perhaps I was unprepared to lead. Sending my companions off into the sea when they themselves were not ready -- that was my true failure. I [brought] this upon us.' You say, 'How was it brought upon us?' Firiona Vie says, 'Together we remain [strong], but we had spent so much time apart. Everyone had moved on, forgotten... how could it be the same? How could we be the same? How deep the snow lies...' Firiona clenches her fist. You say, 'We are strong...' Firiona Vie says 'True, Lanys would love to see me crushed by weakness and remorse.' Firiona raises her sword. The sun glints off its blade. 'But the snows will cover all of Norrath before that happens. I will not look back. I will [lead].' You say, 'Lead the way...' Firiona Vie brings her sword closer. She can see herself in its cold reflection. 'Lanys has part of the Lifeguide. She knows we are here. She wishes to take the last of the staff and crush us, to undo her failure in Kithicor and finish what she started. That will not happen. I will be the head of the hammer that crushes her first. Let us [go].' You have been assigned the task 'Deep Lies the Snow'. Now that you know where Station 10 is and have a crystal that can disrupt magic, you will need to shut down the power sources before Lanys and her forces can open the dome and attack Al'Kabor. You say, 'Let's go' Firiona Vie says 'Good.' LOADING, PLEASE WAIT... Speak with Firiona 0/6 (Combine Dredge) Firiona Vie says 'Are you ready, _____? Bringing the magi-potent crystal in contact with the geomancy crystal should disrupt the magical streams flowing to the transmitter at Station 10. This is our chance. The staff and Al`Kabor's life are at stake.' Firiona looks down at the halfling, her eyes trying to read his face. 'Dreezil, are you ready?'' Dreezil Stickens smiles, looking over Firiona's shoulder. 'Of course, have I not always had your back?' Dreezil covers the hilt of his dagger. 'The incident on Brother Island... it was nothing. You know that, right? I was watching over Dagda. Bygones and all, right?' Firiona Vie squints at the low-lying sun. 'The past hurls us downstream, over forests and fields we'll never see again, but there are innumerable forks ahead.' Dreezil Stickens shrugs. 'What's that supposed to mean?' He laughs quickly. 'You always were the serious one!' Firiona Vie says 'Take it as you like. I will know what it means to you by the tributary you take.' Firiona Vie turns to you. 'We strike the geomancers and disrupt the crystals. Now!' Defeat the crystal geomancers 0/12 (Combine Dredge) These mobs have low aggro ranges, but higher assist ranges. They each hit for a max ~18,500 and are mezzable. They are various classes with varying hitpoints. a crystal geomancer has been slain by _____! a crystal geomancer's corpse says 'How did you find us?' Firiona Vie shouts 'Stand at the base of the power to use your magi-potent crystal!' Touch the geomancy crystal to disrupt its power 0/1 (Combine Dredge) This is a location update at the bottom of the crystal. Be warned that upon update, an auto-aggro mob spawns and immediately goes after a player (thought to be whoever last entered the zone or was most recently rezzed). The structure shakes as the geomancy crystal's power is disrupted. You hear the war cry of one of Lanys' followers as he sees the damage you wrought! a wrathforged juggernaut says 'Come, join the watery dead.' Kill the wrathforged juggernaut 0/1 (Combine Dredge) This mob isn't any more difficult than the geomancers. a wrathforged juggernaut has been slain by _____! a wrathforged juggernaut's corpse says 'I hate you!' Speak with Firiona 0/2 (Combine Dredge) Firiona Vie shouts 'On to the next structure!' Dreezil Stickens shouts 'What, no time to claim a few rewards for our efforts?' Defeat the crystal geomancers 0/12 (Combine Dredge) a crystal geomancer has been slain by _____! a crystal geomancer's corpse says 'You can't stop us all!' Firiona Vie shouts 'Stand at the base of the power to use your magi-potent crystal!' Touch the geomancy crystal to disrupt its power 0/1 (Combine Dredge) Repeat as above. The structure shakes as the geomancy crystal's power is disrupted. You hear the grinding limbs of a stone worker sent to stop you! a crystalguard worker rotates towards you and bounds forwards. Kill the crystalguard worker 0/1 (Combine Dredge) This mob hits for a max ~19,200 and doesn't have any known tricks. a crystalguard worker has been slain by _____!! a crystalguard worker's corpse collapses in a heap. Speak with Firiona 0/2 (Combine Dredge) Firiona Vie shouts 'One more to go! Dreezil, you are winded?' Dreezil Stickens breathes heavily. 'No, no, I'm fine. Let's get on with it.' You hear coins clinking in his pockets. Defeat the crystal geomancers 0/9 (Combine Dredge) Repeat as above, except for the top floor where you'll find "a crystalguard golem" alongside 2x "a crystal geomancer". The golem has a floor-wide aggro range, but does not see invisibility; it hits for a max ~20,000 and doesn't cast anything. The two geomancers are mezzable. a crystal geomancer has been slain by _____! a crystal geomancer's corpse moans, 'Why, why do you persist?' a crystalguard golem's corpse collapses in a heap. a crystalguard golem has been slain by _____! Firiona Vie shouts 'Stand at the base of the power to use your magi-potent crystal!' Touch the geomancy crystal to disrupt its power 0/1 (Combine Dredge) Speak with Firiona 0/2 (Combine Dredge) Firiona Vie shouts 'The geomantic power has been stopped! Al`Kabor's magic will hold while we deal with Lanys' forces. Hurry to Station 10!' Dreezil Stickens drags his feet. 'You run along, and I'll be there soon. Don't mind my little legs; they tire so easily!' Meet Firiona at the large central dome 0/1 (Combine Dredge) Speak with Firiona 0/12 (Combine Dredge) Firiona Vie holds up her hand. 'Stay. Wait and listen. Something is happening.' Holmein the Hated stands with his sword raised. Blood drips down his shoulder from a freshly inserted bone chip. He roars. 'Dorell, the beam fails! When Lanys arrives, your useless geomancy will raise a stone pike for your head!' Lanys T`Vyl breathes the sea air, charged with salt, magic, blood, and tension. 'I can taste Firiona's desperation and sorrow; it is so near!' Lanys laughs. 'Where is Firiona's humiliation, Holmein? Where is the staff?!' Holmein the Hated shouts 'Mistress, the halfling stabs us in the back. His heart does not bear enough scars! The ship...' Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Has been taken care of -- as you will be tonight. For every failure comes fresh punishment, Holmein.' Lanys smiles, watching the blood leak from Holmein's shoulder. Dreezil Stickens mumbles, 'Firiona, I... Don't believe their lies. A rogue still knows who his friends are...' Dreezil drinks from a potion and disappears. Firiona Vie speaks as loudly as she dares. 'Dreezil!' She turns to you. 'He would not... No, I will not believe it!' Una Lucem looks around, eyes unblinking. Her face does not register a change as she watches Holmein's agitated breathing, Lanys' sneering smile, and the frightened features of the rank and file. 'What's wrong with your faces?' Lanys T`Vyl laughs, 'That would be shame, Una, and fear at what I will do to them for leaving our positions so woefully undefended. Once the dredging crystals and beam are restarted, we will--' Una Lucem says, 'Oh, you want the beam?' Una Lucem places her hand over the symbol on her breastplate. With her other hand she points to each of the dredging complexes. Your hair begins to rise, and you smell a charge in the air. A low hum thrums in your gut. The dredging complexes throw blue fire as pillars of magic descend from the sky. The beam leaps to life, and magic envelops Lanys and Una. Firiona Vie shouts, 'Not even Al`Kabor's magic can stand up to such power! We must stop them!' Firiona dashes at Lanys but is held back by the swirling magic. Speak with Lanys 0/5 (Combine Dredge) Lanys T`Vyl smiles at Firiona. 'She emerges from hiding!' Lanys laughs. 'Firiona, you can't hide anything from me: your fears, your weaknesses, your anger, your friends, your staff, or your life. They are mine to toy with, mine to take, mine to end!' Una Lucem looks at you and tilts her head. 'You came to watch me again.' Una Lucem points at the door of the dome. A beam of pure magic fires from the pylon. The door's magical protection is demolished. Lanys T`Vyl shouts 'Holmein, bring me Firiona's downfall!' Lanys T`Vyl sneers. 'Shouldn't you stop him, Firiona? I've already taken so much from you; do you want me to take the rest?' Firiona Vie shouts '_____, stay by my side! Protect Al`Kabor and the staff!' Speak with Al'Kabor inside the dome 0/9 (Combine Dredge) TASK LOCKS HERE Be ready for a fight after a short delay following the last hail. Al`Kabor sits in silence, Lifeguide staff in hand. He looks at you, Firiona, and Holmein. He raises an eyebrow. 'You are keeping strange company these days, Firiona. Did you grow bored without me?' Holmein the Hated growls. 'The staff, or the pain will last longer than you'll wish your life had!' Al`Kabor waves his hand and rolls his eyes. 'Yes, rip out my fingernails, pierce my kneecaps, unspool my intestines -- all of those trite things that scare provincial minds who have never seen true terror.' Al`Kabor continues. 'Have you ever destroyed the world... Simple One? Yes, I shall call you 'Simple One,' for I see you employ your emotions and your flesh far more than your mind.' Al`Kabor says, 'You see, Simple One, this mind --' Al`Kabor taps his forehead -- 'has seen the destruction of Norrath, its lands broken and drifting in an endless void. This mind, with its immeasurable power, nearly brought about the end of all life.' Holmein the Hated begins sliding his sword edge along his damaged palm, making it bleed afresh. 'Your life is about to end! The staff will--' Al`Kabor waves his hand. A hard layer of ice forms over Holmein's nose and mouth. He begins clawing at it, struggling to breathe. Al`Kabor continues, 'I was not finished, Simple One. Be quiet and listen. I shall make it even simpler for you. It was a dream, an allegory: my mind, afraid of its own power, was broken. Al`Kabor says, 'But the Lifeguide has shown me the truth: fear is all that can break a mind, not power. And my power is greater than any fear, greater than any self-mutilation. I shall never be a snake eating its own tail.' Al`Kabor rises to his feet. He tosses the Lifeguide staff to Firiona. Holmein, unable to chip the ice from his face, still fighting for breath, raises his sword to his neck. He slides the blade along his windpipe. He lets out a burbling gasp as air rushes into his lungs. His sword moves again, this time seeking Al`Kabor's neck. Defeat Holmein the Hated 0/1 (Combine Dredge) Holmein the Hated hits for a max ~24,000 and AE rampages. Every 25 seconds, he casts the spell "Tainted Blood" on a random target (targeted 15' range AE for 75,000 dmg + DOT for 8,333/tick). Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'You have not yet grown strong enough in hatred!' Lanys turns to Una Lucem. 'Hasten this.' See what happens to Holmein 0/1 (Combine Dredge) Una Lucem says, 'The weak never survive citadel magic.' Una Lucem points at the open door of Station 10, directing the energy of the dredging crystals. Another blast of magic tears through the open doorway. Holmein catches the brunt and falls to the ground, scorched by the beam. Al`Kabor, Firiona, and you are dazed by the attack. You are incapacitated by a massive magic blast. Lanys T`Vyl wrenches the Lifeguide staff out of Firiona's grasp. 'Your heart will not survive outside the glass cage. It will shatter as it throws itself against my granite hatred. You will break yourself and your companions, like you broke your staff and your promise. You should have remained in the clutches of Discord. All would have been safe.' Lanys T`Vyl looks at Holmein and sighs disappointedly. 'I thought I built you more sturdily than this. I carved you into a model of hatred, but you're made of talc!' Holmein the Hated groans through the cut in his throat as his flesh smolders. Una Lucem stares at you, then Firiona, not paying attention to Lanys or Holmein. 'You survived again. You are strong. I want you to visit my father's home. I want to try things on you.' Lanys T`Vyl smiles, 'Yes, it would be disappointing and pathetic if we never saw Firiona again. We have so much left to discover together, so much to learn about ourselves! See to your companions, and I will see you soon, Champion of Balance!' Lanys T`Vyl's gleaming smile fades as she teleports away with Una Lucem and Holmein. Speak with Firiona 0/10 (Combine Dredge) Hail her until the task completes. A chest also spawns at this time. The task is repeatable with a 6-hour lockout timer from the time of request. Firiona Vie slams her sword to the ground and thrusts her finger at Al`Kabor. 'I told you to sail to Brother Island, to warn the others, to... to keep the Lifeguide safe! Now Dagda, Thubr, Galeth... you have no idea how much trouble you caused or how much trouble we will be in because of your selfish actions!' Al`Kabor brushes off his robe. 'We fight powerful foes, but now my mind is clear. To have my undistracted mind in your arsenal is worth a Lifeguide and a few bruises. I did what had to be done. If you do not recognize this, it is your own shortcoming.' Firiona Vie's eyes close, and her fists clench as she tries to quell her anger. 'At least you haven't changed... but I must remember that I cannot trust you with precise instructions. My lapse in judgment has nearly cost us everything...' Al`Kabor crosses his arms. 'Do not trust your own understanding. Your precision is not my concern. You can always trust me to do the right thing.' Dreezil Stickens emerges from the shadows. 'Firiona, I...' He tosses a closed bag to Firiona, who almost drops it in surprise. 'Remember how you once told me it was undignified to loot the pockets of the dead? You won't have to tell me again. I won't forget this time...' Dreezil slinks back into the shadows and disappears. Firiona Vie slowly unties the top of the bag and looks inside. She lets the bag fall to the ground. As the contents spill, you see the glint of a gem -- small, shaped like the head of the Lifeguide, chipped on one side, dull as a cloudy winter day. Around the gem you count thirty pieces of platinum, worn and tarnished. Firiona Vie says, 'The leaves and snows, how deep they lie...' She quietly picks up the gem. Firiona Vie retrieves the bag's final contents: a glowing stone, shaped like a small pillar. 'A key? We have seen a pillar like this below the northern dredging complex...' Al`Kabor says, 'Who better to pilfer the key of a home unattended than a pickpocket?' Firiona Vie looks at the gem. 'I hope he finds whatever home he seeks...' She turns to you. 'I must return to the Swift Fin and see how our companions fare. [Leave] here. Go to the glowing pillar beneath the northern power structure in the Dredge. With this key, we shall meet on the other side of the portal, wherever it may lead.'
