The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor This group mission begins with Ognit Eznertob (click for map image), who is located on the eastern coast of the island. Pre-requisites for requesting: - Completion of "A Rising Storm" - Completion of "Gathering Clouds" Say "scrolls" to request the task. At the end of the previous task, you saw: Ognit Eznertob says 'Brother Minkins is...? On the voyage he kept telling us sirens could be lurking anywhere. I suppose he finally found them.' Ognit takes the tools and looks thoughtfully at one of the storm totems. 'Now, if I only knew more about the [spells] the kedge are using...'' You say, 'What spells?' Ognit Eznertob says 'Al`Kabor never taught me enough of all he knows. I would think Norrath's greatest wizard would have possessed even a puff of knowledge about storms. So again I am at a loss. If the kedge carry [scrolls] filled with the knowledge of storm magic, I could puzzle out their workings.' You say, 'What scrolls?' Ognit Eznertob says 'The druids surely carry such scrolls.' You have been assigned the task 'Clearer Skies'. Ognit almost has everything he needs to combat the intense storm. Once you supply him with the rest of what he needs, you can push back the storm around the portal to Katta Castrum. Loot storm scrolls from the kedge 0/6 (Tempest Temple) Kill Kedge mobs ("a tempest keeper"; "a tempest evoker") in the center area of the island (patrolling the path through the mountain) until you've looted 6x "Storm Scroll". Mobs in this area hit for a max ~12,500 and tend to be immune to both stun and mez (exceptions being "a storm dervish" and "an earthen dervish"). Give the storm scrolls to Ognit 0/6 (Tempest Temple) Ognit Eznertob unrolls several scrolls and scans them quickly. 'I see that they say... well... I have no idea what these say!' Ognit tosses the scrolls on the ground in frustration. 'I really should have kept up with my studies! I'll need more time to figure out what the scrolls mean, but what I can make out so far is that I will need aged metal. There should be plenty of that in the shipwreck. Loot aged metal pieces from the undead sailors 0/6 (Tempest Temple) Head to the shipwreck off the northeast coast and kill undead until you've looted 6x "Aged Metal". Give the aged metal pieces to Ognit 0/6 (Tempest Temple) Ognit Eznertob hammers, curses, casts a spell, and curses again. He holds up the altered totems. 'These should disrupt the storms. Should. I've imbued them with a calming spell that should interact with the charges in the air, and... well, I hope it's enough. We should [go] place these before the kedge know what we are up to!' The next part of the task involves an instanced version of Tempest Temple. Say "go" to zone into the instance. You say, 'Let's go...' Ognit Eznertob says 'We'll meet at the floating island!' LOADING, PLEASE WAIT... You have entered Tempest Temple Mission. Speak with Ognit near the floating island 0/1 (Tempest Temple) You say, 'Hail, Ognit Eznertob' Ognit Eznertob lifts his head to the clouded sky and shields his eyes from the rain, looking at the floating rocks around the island. 'Take the disruptors. We'll head up the ramp and place them around the island. Tell me when you're ready, and I'll deliver you safely to the rocks.' When ready for a fight, hail Ognit Eznertob to be ported up to the small island next to the path. You say, 'Hail, Ognit Eznertob' Ognit Eznertob says 'Up you go!' Place the first disruptor and defeat the totem defenders 0/3 (Tempest Temple) After a small delay, you'll see this... Ognit Eznertob shouts 'Place the disruptor next to the storm totem to knock out the power of the kedge's storm!' Kelpin Larch yells from the island ridge, 'You would make this island safe for the Combine? You would strip us of our refuge? We endured decades of suffering at their hands, and now you would return us to their clutches? One of us will die before that happens!' ...And 3x "a temple guard" spawn around the storm totem. These mobs are permanently rooted, each hit for a max ~9,500; have ~1,750,000 hitpoints; and are stunnable but are NOT mezzable. They summon when damaged, do NOT see invisibility, and are NOT auto-aggro. Place the second disruptor and defeat the totem defenders 0/3 (Tempest Temple) Repeat as above for the next island up. Bindess Lon joins her voice with her master's. 'You will never take our island from us! You will never subjugate us again -- not even with your most powerful beams of magic!' Place the third disruptor and defeat the totem defenders 0/4 (Tempest Temple) Repeat as above for the next island up, except this time with one additional mob. Kelpin Larch shouts 'Katta Castrum will drown! This island will be no refuge for the Combine! There will be no survivors!' Place the fourth disruptor and defeat the totem defenders 0/4 (Tempest Temple) Repeat as above, again with four mobs. Ognit Eznertob shouts 'This is the last one!' Bindess Lon glances worriedly at her master. 'They're still coming! May I use all you've taught me?' Kelpin Larch shouts 'Yes, show them the resilience of the kedge!' Speak with Kelpin Larch 0/6 (Tempest Temple) TASK LOCKS HERE Hail him until the task updates. (Be ready for a fight.) Kelpin Larch shouts 'Krinoch! Slink back into the sea, slave! You are not worthy to stand among free kedge! Why don't you teleport to Katta Castrum and offer yourself as a sacrifice for your beloved Tsaph Katta!' Krinoch Jal shouts 'No, no, I am loyal to Karana! I love the rain and the storms! So delightful on the skin!' Krinoch shivers and averts his eyes from Kelpin. 'I only want peace for us all!'' Kelpin Larch shouts 'There should be no peace for the Combine! Did you know that at one time Tsaph Katta preached of inclusiveness and the value of all races? And what of our race? To the Combine we were lower than the fish in the ocean deep. But now we have risen to the surface, and the Combine languish below the waves!' Ognit Eznertob holds out his palm and puffs his chest, looking as big as a gnome can. 'The storms shall cease! Return to your island and make peace, or you will have to deal with me!' Bindess Lon laughs. 'Such big words for so small a creature! I've seen your spells, and they don't frighten me. You're no sort of wizard!' Bindess looks to Kelpin. 'Master, may I teach the gnome how to properly cast a spell?' Kelpin Larch shouts 'A magic lesson would be beyond him. Teach the gnome how to die!' Bindess Lon says 'Get off our isle, landling!' Kelpin Larch shouts 'You can defeat him! He is no match for you!' Defeat Bindess Lon 0/1 (Tempest Temple) Bindess Lon isn't much harder than regular mobs here. She has ~3.9 million hitpoints and is immune to mez and stun. She casts "Lesser Storm" on random single targets: Lesser Storm: Single Target, Cold (-975) 1: Decrease Hitpoints by 50000 Once she reaches very low health, she goes non-aggro, and Kelpin Larch attacks: Kelpin Larch shouts 'Bindess, no!' Kelpin rushes to the aid of his apprentice, wreathing a barrier of magic around her. 'They will not harm you!' Defeat Kelpin Larch 0/1 (Tempest Temple) Like Bindess Lon, Kelpin Larch is only a bit more difficult than the average mob here (has ~5 million hitpoints). He casts "Greater Storm": Greater Storm: PB AE 100', Cold (-975) 1: Decrease Hitpoints by 60000 DPS Kelpin Larch to the death. Bindess Lon shouts 'Master, you can't die! Not to them! You're stronger than they are! Master!' Kelpin Larch has been slain by _____! Kelpin Larch's corpse moans malevolently, "We will rise... from the deep..." Bindess Lon says, 'Master... I followed you all those years... I followed you to freedom, to the surface... and now am I to follow you in death?' Bindess beseeches you with her eyes. 'Please don't kill me... I don't want to die yet...' Speak with Krinoch Jal 0/1 (Tempest Temple) You say, 'Hail, Krinoch Jal' Krinoch Jal says 'I thought I would be the one mixing my blood with the rain...' Krinoch looks at the sky. 'The storm has diminished near the portal. Now it should be safe enough to cross through it. I don't know what's happening in Katta Castrum, but once the Combine start arriving here, my brethren might be even less amenable to words than Kelpin was.' Speak with Ognit 0/3 (Tempest Temple) Hail him until the task completes ("go" will zone you out). A chest also spawns at this time. The task is repeatable with a 6-hour lockout timer from the time of request. Ognit Eznertob says 'Thanks to you the portal should be safer, but still the storms rage.' Ognit looks at his hands. He breathes hard. 'It's been a long time since I've been in a fight. I don't know whether to cheer or wretch... I had forgotten how it felt to see your enemy lying dead at your feet. It used to be easier. But there might be many more dead to follow.' Ognit Eznertob says 'Katta Castrum must be in trouble if their people are trying to come here.' Ognit looks at the volcanic island glowing brightly in the darkness. 'The beam arced above the island, but it must not have come from the kedge. And still Cecile controls the winds. I cannot yet accompany you.' Ognit Eznertob says 'I will wait here. I know I can't face Cecile. You saw how little I remember about magic! But I will see what can be done and help the shipwreck survivors in the meantime. [Go] in my stead. See Firiona and make sure she is safe; tell her what has happened here. If she doubts you, tell her 'the companions sail the darkened sea.' Storms and black waters lie ahead, _____.'
