Karg IceBear wanders the tundra, often passing by the North Tower.

You say, 'Hail, Karg IceBear'

Karg IceBear says 'Hail, traveler! I am Karg of Clan IceBear, lone hunter of the Everfrost Peaks. Have you seen any polar bears about?'

You say, 'I have slain a werewolf.'

Karg IceBear says 'Werewolf?! I have not seen a werewolf in years. Have you slain one and collected its skin or its claws?'

You say, 'What skin?'

Karg IceBear says 'You have managed to procure a werewolf skin?? Amazing! Well then, I will let you know that for a fee of 100 platinum, I can craft a hearty cloak for you if you leave the skin and the coin with me.'

Give him a Werewolf Pelt and 100 pp for your reward.

Karg IceBear says, 'OK! Now, where is the rest?'
Karg IceBear says, 'It has been a long time since I crafted items from werewolves. I hope this aids you in your journeys. Farewell, friend, until we meet again.'

No faction hit. Karg despawns.

Geezus. Even back in the day this would have been ridiculously expensive. 100PP would have taken a long time to accumulate in vanilla EQ, since not everything dropped coin loot and gear that was worth selling was harder to get.

Do the lower level werewolves drop the items claw or pelt?
i found out about this quest from my barbarian noob friend. i head out to WC, WK and suck to find one. fumbled around WC for an hour tracking my heart away, and soon got boad. i figured id go check the zone to QH.
As i zoned into Kithicor, i saw one of these guys on my tracker. i head off in his direction (carefuly because it was night time) and i found him at the lake just standing there (in the south eastern part of the zone). he was blue to me so i killed him. and he was rather tough might i add. but he didnt drop anything, i then went to QH zone, and found him there with camo on near the ogres and choon. the wolf there was red to me, so i let him be
upon returning through kithicor, i spoted another werewolf on track, blue aswell, but this time it was in the afternoon (game time). i followed him from the rivervale zone to the middle of the map and took him out. no loot other than 7 gold.
i was just wondering if the lower level ones dont give up the loot like the WK ones. if anyone could prove this, id apreciate it. thanks
confirmed yet again

Well I decieded to try this quest for myself and following the advice of those who posted before me I showed up at the zone to QH at just before midnight (11pm) and lo and behold there was a werewolf standing at the zone, well more hitting actually, seems there was a warrior who decided it would be a good thing to sit at the zone and not pay attention, I pulled the werewolf off of him and a few spells later I was hoping for a pelt or a paw but nothing...seems like these things don't like to give up body parts

Well for what its worth here goes. Got the werewolf pelt at opening of pass into qeynos hills. Got two as a matter of fact. Killed about 7 werewolfs with a 32nd Bard and Warrior. Went to Everfrost Peaks and spent 5 days on and off waiting and killing mammoths. Finally I noticed Megan running from an orc. She was low on health and about to die... so I killed the orc. As I did a figure appeared right in front of Megan. And for the first time I saw Karg Icebear. Moved up to him as quickly as I could handed him the pelt and 100pp. He stated that this was rare. That he mostly made bearskin cloaks.. In any case he vanished as soon as he handed me the werewolf cloak. I was prepared to give him the other pelt and plat... That is the one and only time I have seen him there. Is it worth it? Well that depends. If your doing the quest for the cloak alone, I would say no. But if your questing for questing sake. Then its a good quest, but takes lots of patients... So either way.. enjoy.

I have lvled up in SK and done a lot of trips to Paw and whatnot so I run back and forth to Qeynos a lot. Once I got track I will kill anything I see that looks interesting and I can beat to death. On 4 different times in the 2 weeks since I've gotten track, I have foudn Warewolves in WK. I have not noticed if it was night or not but for the most part I see them over near the NK zone as you follow the path. One I tracked up into the hills near there (the general area of the ogre camp and choon and froon). Only once have I even gotten any loot from them (always LB cons at lvl 35) and that one time it was the 5 all saves collar.

Went to Everfrost to find him, was told by a player that in 32 lvls he had only seen him spawn once. Anyone care to comment on his "rarity"? I have werewolf pelt wouldnt mind having cloak, but dont intend to camp him for weeks on end! Is he this rare?

On my server he is as common as the orcs in the zone. just find a 35+ bard and he can track him down in as little as 5 minutes, so long as the bard has gotten his track skill up.

Karg can, in fact, be very difficult to locate. I strongly advise bringing a tracker to help find him.

Expect to spend many hours seeking him.

to whoever said that werewolves in WK only spawn 1 at a time, you are wrong my friend. 2 spawn at a time most nights and i know becouse ive been hunting those ****'s. It's always good to bring a ranger or Druid a long for tacking sakes. If not most players in the zone will help you track em,(thoses who can). thwy spawn from what seems like 10pm to 5am and will fight anything in their path so have fun. oh and with my L28 cler they are so easy to solo

Werewolf from my experience are most commonly found in WK. Always after sunset from 9pm until 4am, sometimes even around after the sun has risen if they haven't been engaged. Spawn areas are near the Qeynos Hills zone (ask any newbie whose corpse lies in the narrow canyon...), and between the Miler Farm and the Ogre camp.
Werewolf hunting is an art in and of itself, requiring a lot of patience. These creatures will attack anything within their reach, fallin gvictim to greater mobs than themselves oftentimes, such as Froon and Choon or Oobnopterbevny Biddilets and her pet. 99 times out of 100, they are carrying nothing but a small pitance in coin.
I would estimate that over time I have killed hundreds of these cretures, and have only the Serpent Insignia Collar and a Werewolf Hide Cloak to show for it.
Sitting on your thumbs waiting for Karg Icebear in Everfrost is another story...

Hey all, I guess I got lucky recently. During the 2001 Halloween GM event in WC there were werewolves all over. I thought they were just dropping the GM Event crap, but ended up looting 2 pelts-3 talons-1 claw. So looks like it's quest time. Just gotta do some research.

I've been in WK for the past week or so, farming HQ pelts for tailoring. Sometimes I get bored and track down everything on my track list from bottom to top in a futile attempt to "clear the zone".

I've noticed that not long after starting this a werewolf will pop, as well as several hill giants. Not sure what the palceholders are, but its something..

Also, sometimes when tracking a WW, the tracking will go all wild. Say he is to the right, then to the left, and its like I'm running all around it. Then suddenly, bam, he attacks (scares the hell out of me!). Anyways, leads me to think the WW goes inviso or something. I've had him jump me with or without see invis on, so I dunno.

Bottom line is, kill everything in WK and you see a WW soon there after

I just got the Werewolf pelt in WK. Whenever I'm running thru WK after midnight I keep an eye out for werewolves. Tonight as I was running through the canyon towards Qeynos Hills zone I see one. I root and nuke it and it dropped the pelt. Third I ever killed.
Faction Question
# Jul 14 2001 at 9:44 PM Rating: Default
I've not attempted to find Karg yet due to the fact that my faction in Everfrost is not very good. The reason my faction is not very good is because I have killed Ulrich and Einhorst in West Karana for about 5 levels. My question is this: If you are KOS to the barbarians in Everfrost are you KOS to Karg as well? I have the werewolf pelt and was just curious, cause I hate corpse runs. Especially to far off places like Everfrost where the nearest port spot is North or West Karana.

I'm not sure what faction Karg is on, but if you killed Ulrich and Einhorst in West Karana for about 5 levels I'd say your best bet would be to either sell the pelt or create another character (a ranger for tracking would be a good idea) to handle the turn in for you.

WK Spawns
# Jun 20 2001 at 4:43 PM Rating: Default
There are more than one warewolf spawns in WK at the same time. My froend was camping at QHills zone, i went to check by the bandits. Poof, one spawns at the bandits, I mez it and tell my friend I got one mezzed for him. He tells me back he is busy fighting one at the zone to QHills.
I have seen the warewolves all over WK, but mainly at zone to Qhills and at three of the bandit camps, and by Guard tower 2. Only once at the Miller farm though, down by the water.
None dropped the pelt yet...
Karg - My observations.
# Jun 18 2001 at 12:17 PM Rating: Excellent
After searching for Karg for a month to get a werewolf cloak, I can add some details that most people seem to miss...

Karg's known loot is the Cloak of the Ice Bear (same as the Martar drop) and either a rusty 2 handed sword or a plain 2 hander. Karg has reportedly not dropped the Gigantic Zweihander in a while, or if he has, nobody admits to it. Yet he is killed for it most every time he spawns. Too bad Verant's policy is to withold useful information... : (

Karg is a Quest NPC. He makes 3 items:
1) Polar Bear Cloak - requires a polar bear pelt and 5pp
2) Lupine Claw Gauntlets - requires werewolf claws and 75pp
3) Werewolf Skin Cloak - requires werewolf pelt and 100pp
He also despawns after making werewolf items, but not the PBCloaks.

Karg has no set spawn point. Just like Martar, he may spawn in front of permafrost, the east tower, near the ruins on the river, between the ruins and Megan's, at Megan's, and I think near Starn Bearjumper (barb vendor).

Karg follows EXACTLY the same route as his brother. So do polar bear cubs, polar bears, and ice goblin whelps. I believe these to be place holders for Martar (not Karg). Can't figure out what a polar bear cub would be doing in front of permafrost otherwise...

Karg can spawn in as little as 8 hours 40 minutes. I witnessed this personally. I also have reports of him not spawning for a week...

When I finally did get the chance to complete my quest (no rangers looking for werewolf cloaks), Karg spawned as I was following Martar around the Tundra. Martar had just crossed the river near the south tower when I received word that Karg had spawned. Could it be that Martar's trip triggers Karg's spawn?

As far as what to say to get the cloak...You say 'Hail Karg Icebear'. Then you con him. If he is at least indifferent, just give him the stuff. Most quests work that way...

My advice: Sit in front of Megan's tower facing the river and you will see Karg, Martar, and any PHs walk by (if they live that long) and kill the PHs as they walk by. If you want him for the werewolf items, offer a reward for Karg's being hailed (75pp worked for me), and make a few PB cloaks for the lower levels. They'll thank you for it.

I Hope this info helps.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 18 2001 at 2:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok im not sure who told us the quest (doriath and beonr) but you really dont list specifics on this or the gauntlets on how to do it (as far as what you are saying) if you would have said it, these ppl would not be asking the questions that they are. so in all honesty you have really not helped me in anyway shape or form, you didnt tell me what to say, and no you cannot just give him the money and the pelt( quests dont work like that im sorry) you dont say what we talk about or what to mention, so really IT WAS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND MINE TO PUT THIS QUEST UP! you should have left it to someone who has any brains in there head

price on were wolf cloak?
# Apr 02 2001 at 12:00 AM Rating: Default
First of all I had the luck of running into a Werewolf, had a healing hand killing it, and had the good fortune of looting a werewolf pelt from it while travelling through WK. I was told that the pelt is a quest item, so naturally I checked out this website as to find out what the hell I was supposed to do with my new pelt. What I would like to know, is the average pricing on this cloak correct? Is it really around 1k? I'm on the Brell server and any response to the price of this cloak would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: price on were wolf cloak?
# Apr 21 2001 at 12:52 AM Rating: Default
The price is inflated. You can expect about 200-300pp for it if you auction in EC. Of course, never take an offer of 100pp or less, as the item costs 100pp anyway. I looted one at level 13 (someone had killed the WW and left the body with the pelt there), I didn't have 100pp, but I managed to sell the pelt to a level 27 for 75pp. I knew you could make a cloak out of it, but I didn;t know it had such nice stats. Now I am off to hunt som WW's of my own.

I did the quest myself because I was camping the ogres in West Karana with my druid. Every now and then, I'd see a werewolf on track and go kill it. The pelt is a RARE drop. I'm not exactly sure wether you need the pelt or skin, but I know that the WK Werewolves are the only ones that drop it, so whichever they drop is right. Karg wanders Everfrost in the plains area, he is never in the mountain maze thing. Give him the pelt/skin and 100p and he gives you the cloak. The cloak is pretty nice. I think it's like AC 5 +3STR +3STA and weighs less than a pound. Good monk item.

Funny, I got one in Castle Mistmoore. People that claim to know all, know so little. My advice to everyone is, if you see a Werewolf, and have the ability and desire to kill it, kill it, you may find a pelt.

I had just gated in with some friends to West Commons and was standing around minding my own business when a n00b ran by with a werewolf in tow. I killed it and it dropped the pelt... WK is NOT the only location that pelts drop.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 31 2001 at 1:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) THIS QUEST IS A WASTE OF TIME! I CAMPED THE WEREWOLF IN WEST COMMINS AND THE ONE IN WEST KARANA NEVER DROPED ANYTHING EXEPT LITTLE COPPER OR GOLD. THIS QUEST SAID LEVEL 25 AND GAVE AN ESTIMATED TIME OF 2 HOURS THE TRUTH IS IT NEVER DROPS THE PELT. I SPENT A WEEK CAMPING BOTH SITES. THE WEREWOLFS IN MISTMORE MIGHT DROP THE PELT BUT YOU NEED TO BE ATLEAST LVL 40 AND HAVE A FULL GROUP. AT THAT LVL THE STATS ON THIS CLOAK ARE NOT WORTH THE EFORT. THE PERSON WHO MADE THIS QUEST UP NEED TO PULL HIS/HER HEAD OUT OF HIS/HER BUTT!!!!

I have killed about a dozen wwa as well. In WC I have gotten the pelt (once), and a lupine armband +3STR & +3 AGI(also once, and not on the same kill of course), and various runes and words. So you CAN get the pelt by killing a WC werewolf. In WK I received a Serpent Insignia Collar. I have not attempted the quest yet. Arylle Pixiecrippler, warrior of the 26th season on Tarrew Marr.

I've seen a werewolf twice, both in wk. The second one I killed, had the pelt. Both times, the werewolf had been trained to the Qeynos Hills zone. So perhaps that might be a good place to look for them if you don't have the ability to track. I guess I'm off to Everfrost to look for Karg.

OK... To do this quest you need a Werewolf PELT. Not skin, but pelt. Werewolfs spawn in WC (west commons) and some other zones. Some say a Werewolf spawns at night near the Druid Ring but the one I killed for it was north of the trail near EC zone behind a little hill. That spot is probably a spawn point for one of them. I don't know how to make them spawn, he was just sitting there. As for Karg, he wanders most of the EverFrost zone. I usually see him near the Permafrost zone. I hope this helps with all of your questions and needs. =)

RE: Ok HERE are All the Details

Ok here is where I have seen werewolves spawn:
WK (West Karana): Spawn by zone, ogres, undead, froon/choon. Usualy random where it spawns but one usualy spawns every night. 8pm spawn on these.
SK (South Karana):If sentry alchen lives, one rarely spawns at 8pm by Unead camp. (I was told it was a PH for grimrot's human form. I can't conferm this. But i have seen it in SK)
Kithicor : After all the undead are gone a rare werewolf can spawn at 8am, I have killed it twice with my ranger. Oddly it's dropped something every time. Plet and then claw.
WC: (West Commons) Rarely if the Dragoon is dead (?) a Werewolf spawns by the wizzie ring and wanders east. This makes me thing that the Goon is the PH for it, but again not confermed
Someone told me one spawns in NK (north karana) i've never seen it so i'm not gonna talk about it.
One has also been said to spawn in Lower Faydwer, untill it runs into a Unicorn. The two Npcs are supposed to agro eachother and the werewolf get's owned.
