Yesterday (Dec 12, 2011), I tried this quest. I gave 5 pp to Mizr N'Mar (5 pp works as well as 50 gp). I received the Rune of Fortune, but no faction changes.

I was looking at a quest today i was interested in , and it starts in Chardok B of all places. The reward seemed nice enough to look further into the quest , and at the very bottom of the quest , there is a notation of needing the hand in dialouge and proper faction. So in looking it up , i see Beta Nuetral. I had no idea this faction existed. I took a look at what raises and lowers beta neutral , ...and there are NO mobs that can be killed to raise it, and about 50 zones in which you can take negative hits (including the planes) and mulitple NPC's that are on this faction. What i really dont get is the soulbinders are on this faction. So i am pretty sure this is a faction that was not supposed to be played with. Somehow or another , SOE missed a few things i think placing killable NPC's on this faction list , and from reading most reports, one kill will tank it.
So , my question is , other then one broken quest , and two non-applicable quests , how the hell do i raise this faction? I am a high elf paladin , and even if i WERE able to sneak into Neriak , evidently, turning in 50 gp no longer works.So short of petitioning to have my faction fixed , how does one fix this ?

believe they did nerf this now, so you cannot get any BN faction pos hits. i just did the rod of insidious glamour. Didn't notice any BN pos faction adjustments.
essentially everyone is suppose to be indifferent on this. That was the primary reason for me being interested in raising this faction.

I was killing shadowed men in West Commonlands to get the Rapier for JBoots quest, and everytime I killed the shadow with the book, my faction with BN dropped. Or, actually, it tried to drop. My first kill bottomed it out! "Your faction standing with Beta Neutral could not possibly get any worse." I got all worried since the shadowed men could apparently be on BN faction, and the book-carrying ones also /con as KOS. However, the Translocators (on BN faction) are still indifferent and will port me.
So... still possible to lose Beta Neutral faction, however, it doesnt seem to matter where your faction stands.

It sounds to me from your experience that the BN faction is fixed at a certain value. So if "indifferent" has a faction score of say 500, then maybe they fixed the minimum BN score to 500 as well?

I know it can go down, I was killing Drawrven Bandits in Butcherblock to work on Kaladim Faction (I'm an Iksar) and each one gave me nice faction hits until I hit this guy named Gundl (sp?) and I took a negative Beta Neutral hit. He was in a Dwarven Bandit camp, how was I to know?

i think they broke the faction quests for BN faction. you can no longer hand in Bloodstones in HKeep for faction either. also, i was ALLY to BNeutral, but for some odd reason i am now INDIFFERENT (and i didnt do anything to affect the faction negatively)

Is this Quest still working for Beta Neutral Faction? I handed yesterday my hardly collected 50gp to that guy and received the Rune of Fortune, but i got no message that my faction went up! He said only "Ah.. gold - here is the Rune blabla" (I dont remember the whole text). What about he Beta Neutral Faction? How/where can i crosscheck it if i got a boost??

if you arent indifferent, get an invis from a friend while you give him 50 GP (after initiating the trade, but before hitting the confirmation button), instant (temporary) indifferent faction, and you can use that to increase your true faction to the point you can do this quest unaided.

The Beta Neutral faction is a faction that starts out indifferent to EVERYONE, good *and* evil. The NPCs for all the quests that everyone is supposed to be able to do (for example, Journeyman's Boots) are on Beta Neutral.
When my agnostic troll warrior got his jboots, Hasten Bootstrutter was dubious to him, not indifferent. Still gave me the boots though.

As corrected in a reply below it is Red Wine handed in to Lokar To'Biath not fish wine, but this quest will not raise Beta Nuetral faction only Dread Guards Outer & Inner and the Dark Bargainers (most of the Neriak Merchants). URL=

-Third, the faction gained is for quests from the Temple of Solusek Ro, in the Lavastorm mountains. Many classes have class specific quests that are hinged on Beta Nuetral faction.
-Fourth, There isn't ANY faction gained with Erudites if you give Tarn a bloodstone.
-Fifth, IF you want your faction gained with Beta Neutral, yes it will help (your sorry *** should have never attacked anything in your home town, that's just plain idiotic, no matter the xp!)
-Sixth, unless your a high elf caster who can invis themself, your high elf will be killed on sight! (If your a high elf enchanter, you shouldn't be asking this question!)

I sympathize with your "Chronic **** Retentiveness" problem. Perhaps prunes would help? Will not help with being the *** that you apparently excel at, but may help. Get a life junior and lighten up.

I didn't read any previous post due to time constraints, so if this has been posted i apologize. Buying bloodstones in Highhold keep and giving it to Tarn Visilin in the room across the hall from the gem merchant will also raise faction with beta nuetral. It's a MUCH cheaper way to raise faction then buying the rune of fortune. Not sure of the faction difference but every little bit helps! :-)

If I keep doing this faction gain; what is the result? Will druids like me again after I killed all of those treants? Will the Qeynos guards like me again? Does it put me back to as I was when i made my char?

There is Monk Quest, the one dealing with getting the Treant Fist, that when you turn in your items at Kerra Ridge, you get a +Beta Neutral

...but this quest is no longer in the game. I tried with both my 45th level (dubious) SK and my 8th level (amiable) mage. She just gives the generic "uh, err.. thanks, although I don't know what I'm going to do with this" message now.

This isn't an item for sale, Mizr N'Mar only sells the Enchant Metal series of scrolls. You just give him 50 gp. Not 5pp or 500sp, 50gp.

I don't know about you, but I've given all sorts of moeny to all sorts of quest NPCs. As long as it works out to the right amount, you're good.
Example: to get fire opals, you have to give Genni in Temple Ro 550 gold, "the metal of fire for agem of fire." Yeah, right. My 55 platinum was just as good.
Similarly, I have given all kinds of weird denominations to people for the incandescent glove quests. Add up to 50 gold, no problem. (So consider this, you weighed-down people getting Jboots. But you never will. You are too scared it might not work. Trust me, NPCs don't check coin type, just amount.)

The rune of fortune is part of the rod of incandescent glamour quest. It's on sale from Mizr N'Mar in the library of the Third Gate zone for 50 gp.

I went to do this quest and she did not have the rune for sale... I checked everything that she had to ensure that it wasn't a rune with the wrong item pic on it and there was no rune on her.
