Kozyn Gigglephizz is found at the entrance of Ak'Anon. He's looking for a defective gadget invented by Tinmizer.
You say, 'Hail, Kozyn Gigglephizz' Kozyn Gigglephizz bows politely. 'Greetings my friend. Have you come to turn in one of those malfunctioned containers called, [Tinmizer]'s [Fabulous Compactor]? I shall gladly exchange it for a few nice gems.' You say, 'Who is Tinmizer?' Kozyn Gigglephizz chortles with glee. 'Ho, ho, ho!! Oh, my! Tinmizer was a bit of a goof when it came to tinkering. I am from the [T.B.I.] and I was sent to clean up the mess he made. He was tinkering defective containers and selling them. We exiled him and destroyed all his containers. If I am correct, Tinmeizer is one of two people in my memory. It is my guess that he is either:
A) A gnome who has slain dragons with only a rusty weapon and normal armor.
-or-
B) A gnome who was a very horrible tinker that had attempted several things that never worked out as planned. When being taught how to tinker, he created an uncontrollable flamethrower instead of the warmer it was supposed to be. He then, after thinking he got the hang of tinkering, created other defunct things, including a giant clockwork spider that chewed up half of Steamfont, and supposedely was hired by some group of rogues to create a clockwork dragon to storm Ak'Anon with.
My bet goes with the latter person.

Tinmeizer was the "greatest" tinker of the gnomes. He created the Clockwork Dragon to slay the Steamfont Dragon who was terrorizing the gnomes.

The Steamfont Dragon wasn't slain by the Clockwork Dragon but by Edril, the High-Elf hero of old. He's dead now, but he did slay the Steamfont Dragon to help found Ak'Anon.

I got a lapiz lazuli for turning in my compactor. I killed Kozyn afterward cause I was mad. He dropped a gnome decapitated head that identifies as Jogl's head.

Kozyn and the PH despawn and respawn fairly often. I think Kozyn only spawns at night, or on certain days, etc.
I kept one compactor on a character, and since the patch that created Kozyn, my other character (enchanter) turned in his compactor, and even tho I tried a LONG LONG time, was unable to get another compactor.
DO NOT turn in the compactor, because he only gives you a very low quality gem. If you speak with him, you KNOW he is on rogue faction, and he IS LYING to you. He does not however, give you many tips as to why the TFcompactor is important.
I think they created Kozyn for the sole purpose of getting all the compactors out of EQ. I think the original quest is incomplete, and this was a cheap and dirty way of removing questions about the quest.
On the other hand, I have asked just about every NPC I have come across in 2 years and asked "who is tinmizer?" This is just a dead quest.
With the staggering amount of time it took me to get a bullsmasher and compactor, I highly encourage everyone to NOT WASTE your time on these worthless quests.

I have turned in enough Scrap Metal to build a Lincoln Continental, nearly blowing my guild faction in the process. I got the Bootstrutter's Framed Pack (yay!), and a grip of rusties and Forging Hammers - no compactor. It's 06/21/2001. Can someone verify that this is still a reward?

A place holder is a critter that spawns in the same place as the one you are looking for, and also prevents that one from spawning. For example, you could say that Wesley is a rare spawn, with the Dred Pirate Scott as his place holder. Therefore, usually when you go to the spawn point, you see DPS, not Wesley. You'll need to kill him and wait for the respawn...which can be either DPS, or Wesley. If DPS, you again have to kill him and wait for to see if Wesley comes back.
Sometimes the place holder is an immediate precursor to the spawn you want (e.g. you kill DPS and the next spawn WILL be Wesley), but usually it's a random chance who will come up and depending on how badly you want the desired mob, the more likely the place holder will come up.

I was wondering which gems you get from this quest. If there is a possibility of some of the high end gems then this quest is very much worth the effort.

I believe that Kozyn's placeholder is a clockwork guard in the "entrance" room of Ak'Anon. I don't know it's name or serial number though. Anyone know what kind of gems you're supposed to get?

As far as I've read elsewhere you only get stuff like turquises. Better keep your compactor, you never know...

kozyn is in the first room after you zone into ak anon. PH is a clockwork gnome( XXIIE or something like that), not the spider or rat clockworks.
