Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor
This is the second task in a series of three. It is a solo task that begins with Captain Dunstan Coldheart (map - full zone map) in the Crystal Caverns (located in a room in the center of the Coldain city, Froststone at -255, 230, -400). Pre-Requisites: - Level 85 - Completed "An Abundance of Orcs" You say, 'Hail, Captain Dunstan Coldheart' Captain Dunstan Coldheart says 'I cannot risk a Ry`Gorr attack on Froststone. While our will is strong, these stone walls won't withstand a horde of orc invaders. It pains me to suggest it, but I think a [truce] is in order. Or have you come to me for [other reasons]?' You say, 'Other reasons?' Captain Dunstan Coldheart says 'Froststone's defenses are already spread too thin. I cannot afford to send more scouts out to investigate the mining camps. Since you have already proven your ability to deftly navigate these caverns, I wonder if you would be [willing] to investigate what the Ry`Gorr are up to?' You say, 'No thanks; what about that truce?' Captain Dunstan Coldheart says 'The Ry`Gorr orcs mostly keep to mining. The fact that they are sending forces to Froststone suggests that we have something they want. What that is, I do not know, but whatever it is will be key to bargaining for peace. I need a neutral party to approach the Ry`Gorr and determine their terms for a truce. As both an outsider and a proven ally to the coldain, I think you would work well as an [emissary].' You say, 'I'll be an emissary' Captain Dunstan Coldheart says 'Your goal will be simple, but not without danger. Find a messenger within the Ry`Gorr clan and speak to him of our desire for peace. Do your best to keep the dialog neutral and open.' You have been assigned the task 'Ry`Gorr Reconnaissance'. Captain Dunstan Coldheart has asked you to serve as an emissary of Froststone, in hopes that you can secure a truce between the Coldain dwarves and Clan Ry`Gorr. Find a Ry`Gorr messenger and offer a truce between his clan and the Coldain. Orc messengers would likely linger near the cavern's entrance. Find and speak to a Ry`Gorr messenger 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) This NPC is a roamer near the zone-in. You say, 'Hail, a Ry`Gorr messenger' a Ry`Gorr messenger seems amused by your greeting, 'You must be brave or stupid to stop and chat with an orc. What is it that you want?' You say, 'We want peace' ("truce" also works) a Ry`Gorr messenger senses an enemy nearby and readies for battle! It attacks (standard trash mob). Kill the Ry`Gorr messenger 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: While attempting to negotiate a truce, you were attacked! Kill the hostile Ry`Gorr messenger. Loot a Folded Note 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: The dead orc appears to be collecting a note of some sort. Take the note to Captain Dunstan Coldheart 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Captain Dunstan unfolds the note and begins to read. Speak to Captain Dunstan Coldheart 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) You say, 'Hail, Captain Dunstan Coldheart' Captain Dunstan Coldheart carefully refolds the note as he begins to speak, 'A secret meeting has been called between the note's author and clan Ry`Gorr. It would appear that the two have struck some sort of a bargain, but the terms and conditions have changed. If the orcs won't tell us what they're up to, then I suppose we may have to find out for ourselves. According to the note, the rendezvous will take place tonight in the East Wastes, near the cavern's secret exit.' Head to the rendezvous location mentioned in the note 0/1 (Zeixshi-Kar’s Awakening) This is a /location update at about -3400, 1010, 148 in Zeixshi-Kar’s Awakening (outside the Ry'Gorr fort). Speak to Emissary Kordim 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: The area is empty, except for a frost giant Emissary. The Emissary (map) is found outside the entrance of the Ry'Gorr fort. Note that speaking with him triggers the spawn of two additional mobs. Note: If doing this task as a group, you can have one person hail him, fade their aggro, have the next hail him, fade their aggro, etc. - until the last person hails him. Then, when you kill him, the whole group gets credit for the kill (otherwise you'll need to repeat for each person who needs it). You say, 'Hail, Emissary Kordim' Emissary Kordim looks upon you with disgust, 'What is the meaning of this? The note said we would be meeting with coldain who holds the shard. Do they insult us by sending a _____ to do their bidding instead? We agreed upon a price. We have paid it. The frost giants do not wish to renegotiate. Now you will either hand over the shard, or pay with your life! Guards! Defeat Emissary Kordim 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: The frost giants appear to think you owe them a shard, and are determined to kill you to retrieve it! Emissary Kordim attacks (hits for a max ~11,000), along with 2x "a frost giant scout" (hit for a max ~10,000). Inform Captain Dunstan Coldheart of the frost giant ambush 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: Return to Captain Dunstan and report the recent showdown with the frost giants. You say, 'Hail, Captain Dunstan Coldheart' Captain Dunstan Coldheart listens to you recount the events that unfolded in the East Wastes. 'So the frost giants received a summons as well? It seems whoever wrote those notes hoped to pit the giants and orcs against each other. A mysterious shard, sold to both the Ry`Gorr and frost giants, but given to neither. A clever set up, indeed. What concerns me the most is the claim that the entire scheme was set up by one of my own. If a resident of Froststone is behind this, they will pay with their life. If I begin asking questions, it'll surely spark suspicion and spook whoever is behind this. I must beg your help again, and ask that you question Froststone residents until some answers can be found.' Question dwarves within Froststone until the traitor is revealed 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: Captain Dunstan would like you to speak to any and all Froststone residents until the traitorous author of the note can be found. Hail the Coldain in Froststone until you get the update. The NPC of note is Nadalia Coldmist (map - zone map) at /location -95, 265, -383 -- the northwestern part of the city on an upper level, but these are some of the responses you will see from other residents upon hailing them: Dirk Coldsmith nods knowingly, 'Questions about shards, strange new crystals being mined by the Ry`Gorr... it doesn't take an erudite to connect the dots here. Froststone had best prepare for the worst.' Kramble Gemshard scans a list of recent deposits before answering, 'I keep accurate records of every item placed in this bank, and there's no indication of any suspicious transactions. If someone wished to store a mysterious shard here, I would know it.' Scout Grandan says 'I report directly to Captain Dunstan. Any questions you have should be addressed to him. Good day.' Tacy MistHeart peers at you curiously, 'I have no knowledge of notes, orcs, or giants. Does this have anything to do with the recent infestation of fear creatures?' Engineer Colle flashes an uneasy smile while keeping his eyes nervously glued to the floor, 'Hello, _____. No time to chat, I'm afraid. Always work to be done.' And Nadalia: You say, 'Hail, Nadalia Coldmist' Nadalia Coldmist struggles with silent contemplation before finally speaking, 'I don't like being the one to incriminate a good friend, but I worry for Danela's safety. She came to me some time ago, looking for a place to store a chest for safekeeping. She wouldn't tell me what was within the chest or how she acquired it, but insisted I keep its [location] a secret. You say, 'What location?' Nadalia Coldmist says 'I agreed to help without question, since Danela has been a friend of mine for some time. I hid the chest in a small storage area beneath the stone floor in my room. That night I hardly slept, as my rest was plagued by vivid nightmares filled with horrid creatures. As the days went on, the [nightmares] intensified and began to blur the lines of reality. At times it became hard to tell whether I was awake or sleeping, or if the tentacle terror that appeared next to me was really there at all.' You say, 'Nightmares?' Nadalia Coldmist continues, 'By the time Danela returned, I was a complete hermit, bound to my room by paralyzing fear. She appeared to have no concern for my condition; her sole focus was on retrieving the [chest]. She seemed obsessed with its contents, saying it would bring her much wealth and power. That was the last time I saw my dear friend Danela.' You say, 'What chest?' Nadalia Coldmist says 'It wasn't long after she retrieved the chest that my nightmares began to subside. Within a few weeks the waking terrors had completely vanished. Months went by without incident. I secretly worried for Danela, but I couldn't come forward with my concerns. She made me swear to keep her secret. It wasn't until recently, when creatures tainted by fear began appearing, that I truly knew something horrible must have [happened].' You say, 'What happened?' Nadalia Coldmist says 'For some time I thought my nightmares had returned, but then others began noticing these creatures too; tentacle terrors and spinechiller spiders, lurking throughout the caverns. I knew Danela must have been involved, but I refused to admit it.' The remorseful coldain weeps for her friend, 'Now I fear it is too late.' Tell Captain Dunstan Coldheart what you have learned 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: Nadalia has confessed that her friend Danela might be the traitor. This is information Captain Dunstan would like to know. You say, 'Hail, Captain Dunstan Coldheart' Captain Dunstan Coldheart lets out a long sigh, 'So it is true. Our own Danela is to blame. This shard she has acquired sounds dangerous, and is likely the cause of the recent arrival of spinechillers and terrors. Danela must be brought in for questioning, and the shard needs to be located and destroyed before things get worse. Her room is on the second floor, in the north western portion of Froststone.' Head to Danela's living quarters where you can then apprehend her 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: Captain Dunstan has asked you to search Danela's quarters in the northwestern area of Froststone. Her living quarters (map - full zone map) are found at /location -175, 340, -383 (in a room to Nadalia's southwest). This triggers the spawn of two mobs. The room is empty with no sign of Danela or the crystal shard. Heavy footsteps can be heard coming closer from across the hall. Defeat the henchmen 0/2 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: Henchmen were waiting for you in Danela's room. 2x "a henchman" spawn and attack. They hit for a max ~13,000 and are stunnable and rootable. Report your findings to Captain Dunstan Coldheart 0/1 (Crystal Caverns) Task Window Says: Captain Dunstan would appreciate a full report of what happened while searching Danela's room. You say, 'Hail, Captain Dunstan Coldheart' Captain Dunstan Coldheart listens carefully to your report before speaking, 'So Danela has already fled and the shard was nowhere to be found? The longer that crystal remains in our caverns, the more exposed we become to the fear that it seems to emanate. We need to locate the shard and destroy it, before it contaminates our minds as it has already done to Danela.' At Captain Dunstan's request, you identified the traitor among the coldain, but were unable to retrieve the mysterious shard.
