If you try to turn in the detonators while mobs are around the altars or if you are in combat - the altar will eat your turn in.
But - all you have to do is zone out and hail General Serobi to get another set. (or say "move")

Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor
This is a group mission that begins with General Serobi in Sarith. He's found in the northeastern part of the dock area at about 20, -1050. Pre-requisites for requesting the task: - Completed "Oseka's Knowledge" - Completed "Sacred Relics" - Completed "Tides of Change" - Completed "The Key to Freedom" - Completed "Begin the Offensive" - 73 Skill Level in Alaran You say, 'Hail, General Serobi' Without pre-requisites, you'll see: General Serobi says 'You are not yet ready for the task I have planned. Speak with Solphius Kelprunner, Tiljin of the Deep, or Aquarn the Tidalmaster if you wish to help.' With pre-requisites, you'll see: General Serobi says 'I've been expecting you. With the explosive runes armed, now is the time to make our [move] against the Temple of Rubak Oseka.' You say, 'Let's make our move' General Serobi says 'Take these detonators and use them at the various altars in Rubak. They will detonate the explosive runes you armed. Hopefully we can do enough damage to the temple that we can get the attention of the High Priest. If the High Priest does appear, destroy him! Are you [ready] to undertake this most important of missions?' You receive four detonators. You have been assigned the task 'Assault the Tower'. You are to enter the Temple of Rubak Oseka and use the four detonators to detonate the runed explosives you previously armed. It is hoped that enough damage is done to the temple, the High Priest will show himself and you can slay him. The steps will open up one at a time. You'll need to begin with the furthest altar, the Altar of Whispers, and make your way back up. - The Altar of Whispers is at 250, 150, 290. - The Altar of Wisdom is at 0, 250, 320. - The Altar of Tides is at -200, -100, 350. - The Altar of Serpents is at 0, -250, 375. All trash mobs in the altar rooms will have to be killed before you can turn in a detonator. If you try to do a turn-in without doing so, you'll see: You can't put the detonator on the altar with those attendants watching! Give Detonator One unto the Altar of Whispers 0/1 (Rubak Oseka) Task Window Says: Give Detonator One unto the Altar of Whispers. It will self-detonate, causing the explosive rune you had previously armed to explode and damage the temple. Give Detonator Two unto the Altar of Wisdom 0/1 (Rubak Oseka) Give Detonator Three unto the Altar of Tides 0/1 (Rubak Oseka) NOTE: The task locks as you turn in the third detonator. Give Detonator Four unto the Altar of Serpents 0/1 (Rubak Oseka) Upon turning in the last one, the temple rumbles and you'll see: The temple shakes violently as the runed explosion is triggered! High Priest Xalziks shouts, 'Enough! You shall not damage our temple any further! The forces of Prexus shall be destroyed! If you wish to prove your true courage, I await you at the bottom of the temple, cowards! Defeat High Priest Xalziks 0/1 (Rubak Oseka) Task Window Says: The High Priest has shown himself just as General Serobi had hoped. Destroy him! High Priest Xalziks spawns on the bottom floor. He hits for a max ~12,500 and casts no AEs. He does, however, spawn a whirlpool on a random person, complete with a damage aura (hits every two seconds): Raging Vortex: Single Target, Cold (-900) 1: Decrease Hitpoints by 6346 Note: You can pull Xalziks into this whirlpool to do extra damage to him. There's also an achievement for doing this five times. As he reaches low health (you'll need to do about 1 million hp of damage to get to this point), you'll see: High Priest Xalziks says, in Alaran, 'I have no time for your childish games. You are foolish to think you could have defeated me, for I am the embodiment of Oseka herself! Run back to your leader like the cowards you are and let them know that the forces of Oseka shall win this war!' Speak with General Serobi in the Temple of Rubak 0/1 (Rubak Oseka) You say, 'Hail, General Serobi' General Serobi says 'So, Oseka is using the High Priest's body to do her dirty work. It is most fortunate for you that he did not finish this battle. You are not yet ready to confront him; this much is clear, but we have learned much from this encounter. Take your reward from this chest and rest for now. There is still much work to be done. When you are ready to [leave] the temple, let me know and I will send you back to Sarith.'
