This task is the first in a series of five; a solo task that begins with Geirdan Ath in the Valley of Lunanyn, located at 2295, -1700, 46 (in a building in the southeast part of the upper section of the zone). Pre-requisites for requesting the task: - No tasks - (no minimum required skill level in Alaran Language) You say, 'Hail, Geirdan Ath' Geirdan Ath says 'You are not one of mine! But you can be of use to me! We have [lost] many men recently and are unable to stop the Prophet's Army from raiding the crops here.' You say, 'How were they lost?' Geirdan Ath says 'Most of them have been killed in battle, but we are missing some that were on patrol. They seem to have vanished without a trace. I suspect the Prophet's Army is to blame. They are struggling to take the [crops] here to support their army and it is only a matter of time before they will outlast us.' You say, 'What about the crops?' Geirdan Ath says 'They take the crops from their own people, who hide in fear from their own army. Will you [help] us?' You say, 'I'll help' Geirdan Ath says 'Excellent! I will see to it that you rewarded should your efforts prove successful!' You have been assigned the task 'Raid and Recover'. Geirdan Ath is spread thin until reinforcements arrive. He will need you to seek out the Erillion Army raiding parties and put a stop to their taking of the local crops. You will need to be careful during your engagements as the Prophet's army has been taking prisoners for a reason that Geirdan has yet to ascertain. He would also like you to find the soldiers that have gone missing. You must slow down the Prophet's army from taking the crops to their troops. Find the camp that is keeping the soldiers hostage 0/1 (Valley of Lunanyn) This is the large camp in the southern end of the zone, you can find it at /waypoint -994, 395, -40. You can update this step invis. Kill 5 troopers 0/5 (Valley of Lunanyn) Speak with a missing soldier 0/1 (Valley of Lunanyn) Speak with a missing soldier 0/1 (Valley of Lunanyn) Speak with a missing soldier 0/1 (Valley of Lunanyn) Speak with a missing soldier 0/1 (Valley of Lunanyn) a missing soldier says 'Thank you! I knew someone would come help me!' a missing soldier says 'You sure took your time freeing me didn't you?' a missing soldier says 'These Alaran scum will get what's coming to them if it's the last thing I do!' a missing soldier says 'I knew the Geirdan wouldn't forget about me! I am his right hand man after all.' The missing soldiers are found in the tents in the same camp. Speak with Geirdan Ath 0/1 (Valley of Lunanyn) You say, 'Hail, Geirdan Ath' Geirdan Ath says 'You have returned! Your efforts to stop the raiding of the crops will help greatly. Though, I am concerned that we were unable to find out why they are taking my men. ' You were able to put a stop to the raiders and have freed the missing soldiers, at least until their reinforcements can arrive. I received the progression update to find the camp at -994, 395, -40.

The first three Valley kill tasks overlap with this task, so the easist / quickest approach is as follows:
Grab Raid & Recover from Geirdan Ath. Run all the way south in zone for the "Find the camp" update. None of the trash seems to see invis.
Head back north to Mabus. Request his (her?) three kill tasks. I did so with 31 Alarian and could not understand her, but even with no Alarian skill, you can request the tasks. Phrases are "fertilizing the fields" "vermin infestation" and "reaping the harvest"
You can setup camp at Mabus. All the mobs you need to kill for the four tasks you should now have are found on the hills above you in this area, with Mabus on the lowest level. The farmers are not KOS and do not assist the soldiers, etc., so just ignore them. There is one roaming mob that paths close to Mabus but will not aggro if you are close enough to him. There is also one mob that roams down the ramp at the east end of the level you're on. It can be single pulled when at the bottom of the ramp.
At this point, basically pull and kill any soldier, ranger, trooper, etc. in the area. There are enough that can be singled that you do not need crowd control or a pulling class, though the assist radius can be rather small in areas and you may get multiples even when it looks like you should not. Everything can be snared and nothing summons. The impalers were the rarest mob type for us and we just kept clearing mobs until enough spawned. There are additional mobs of the same types further east (across the small chasm) so you may find a few impalers up there as well.
Anyway, get all your kills done. Hail Mabus to finish them. Head back south to the camp, hail the four missing soldiers while invis, then back north and hail Geirdan Ath to complete Raid & Recover. This should net you 11 Alarian total if you're starting from scratch.
Our group was a 91/1950 Wizard (me) + J5 cleric, 90/900 Mage, 90/? BST with a 95/? raid-geared Cleric + J5 tank. I have no doubt the 95 tank merc and human healer helped quite a lot to keep our kill rate up, and it made dealing with multiple mobs much easier, but this should certainly be doable with less. Took us three hours start to finish, but a solid hour of that was waiting on the last few impalers. If the RNG is kinder you can probably have this done in two.

Tried to do this with my Bard at 89, seems like Required lvl 90 for this series of tasks including kill tasks
there is a req level to get this task, could NOT get with a level 85
You can get the 'missing soldier' updates while invis at the time of this writing. So you don't need to clear the tents area, which was horrible to attempt since they're so close. And the missing soldiers don't attack when hailed, which i was concerned with because I was remembering the warrens quest where this happened.

If you may notice, all quests in this zone result in the same book.. Once you have the diary, you can't get another by doing the other quests. The diary is most likely part of progression and will piece together later in the game for other purposes.
Not sure if you get any language at all for completing these solo quests in VoL, but some say you may get 1 or 2 per quest completion.
Have to verify that, not sure yet.

Our group completed this tonight, very easy... however, we got no Alaran language skills for clicking the book.
