If you remove the quest, doesn't it make sense to remove the useless items for it as well?

For an overview of Veil of Alaris pre-launch events, see this quest entry. This is a pre-launch task leading up to the Veil of Alaris expansion, expected to be available only for a certain period of time ahead of VOA's launch. It begins with a gnome named Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle in the Steamfont Mountains. She's found in the far southeastern part of the Steamfont Mountains (location -1415, -1475, 5 -- in the back area of the work site). You say, 'Hail, Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle' Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle says 'Hello there. I am Chief Smelter Whistle. Basically that means that, for this project at least, I am responsible for all metal work. That turns out to be a rather complicated task, for which I need a lot of [help].' You say, 'Help?' Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle says 'We have a lot of workers and engineers on the project, but there is a lot to do. There is a lot more metal in a dirigible than most folks know. And it has to be special metal in most cases. We need agents to find what we need. If you aren't here just to site see, then you might be interested in doing a few [tasks] for me.' You say, 'What tasks?' Chief Smelting Engineer Whistle says 'We have a lot that needs doing.' A task window pops up with three tasks to choose from. You have been assigned the task 'Blimp Frame - Curved Steel Beams'. The ship the gnomes are building is a rigid airship of some sort, apparently a massive one. The frame will need several properly curved steel beams. Collect a Steel Beam from Steamworks under Meldrath's employ. Collect 1 Steel Beam 0/1 (ALL) This is a random drop off various Steamwork mobs in the Fortress Mechanotus. Find a Potion of Liquid Frost from the drakes in Crystallos 0/1 (Crystallos, Lair of the Awakened) This is a random update as you kill drakes in the ice wing of Crystallos. Collect 1 Potion of Molten Lava 0/1 (Doomfire, The Burning Lands) This is an uncommon drop from golems in the Plane of Fire, but has been reported to be dropping off all types of mobs in the higher level half of the zone. Create 1 Curved Steel Beam using tradeskills 0/1 (ALL) In a Forge (unknown trivial): Combine 1x "Steel Beam" + 1x "Potion of Molten Lava" to produce a Curved Steel Beam. Deliver 1 Curved Steel Beam to any smelting engineer 0/1 (Steamfont Mountains) Your task 'Blimp Frame - Curved Steel Beams' has been updated. The engineer seemed pleased when you handed over the curved beam. Trying to make the curve steel beam and cannot do it, what did you use to make it?,
I have a Steel Beam and a Potion of Molten Lava, am at the step where I am supposed to Create 1 Curved Steel Beam using tradeskills, I've tried all versions of a forge (including New Tanaan) but nothing is happening when I click combine. Any one else run into this?
I had this happen on one of my three characters, which coincidentally or not was the only character that I completed the crystallos step, and then logged off for a few hours and came back later to complete the quest. I dropped the quest, kept the same Steel Beam + Potion of Molten Lava, and started over. Only part you really have to repeat is the crystallos killing; the quest worked normally for me doing it all in one sitting. It's possible logging off mid-quest created the problem but I'm not 100% sure.
Upon killing "an ice drake" that does not give update:
"an ice drake does not have a potion"
Upon killing "an ice drake" that does update:
"an ice drake drops a potion as it dies."
Personally I killed 4 ice drakes before receiving an update.
Also I looted the Potion of Molten Lava from the raid mob, Magmaton, and saw a second drop from "a giant obsidian lava spider."
The recipe for creating a Curved Steal Beam is simply Steel Beam + Potion of Molten Lava, combined in a forge. (Trivial < 101, would guess it is a no fail combine but cannot confirm for 100%)

The second step reads "Find a Potion of Liquid Frost from the drakes in crystallos" confirmed after about 12-15 kills the drakes in the ice wing update this.

On eqresource.com the potion is listed as coming from Magma types, but I am getting them off any mob between c1 and c2.

make that just about anything past c1 (not sure outside, didnt check, but it drops from all mobs inside the first wall) uncommon but easy enough to find
