This task begins with Skal Nethus in the Plane of Knowledge. He's an Erudite found at location -320, 1200, -111 (close to Franklin Teek).

You say, 'Hail, Skal Nethus'

Skal Nethus says 'Come closer! You smell...odd. Yes, have you been crawling around in dungeons? I smell the bacterial spores on your armor. You should be careful: [dungeon rot] will make you unpleasant in ways worse than odor. '

You say, 'Dungeon rot?'

Skal Nethus says 'Adventurers pass through here all the time, wreaking of the stuff. It seems to be spreading through dungeons everywhere. Just last week I was accosted by a putrid, infected halfling. He accused me of wanting to steal his powers. His skin was boiling red, and a cloud of spores billowed about his body. He lifted me above his head and tossed me into a fountain. His [anger] was five times his body size, and I was afraid for my life.'

You say, 'Anger?'

Skal Nethus says 'Creatures infected with Dungeon Rot have augmented [strength] and rage. How else would a halfling overpower someone as large and fit as I? I am not positive, but I think the Rot spreads more easily to creatures with anger running through their veins. That is why I resisted the halfling's infection: I am a naturally calm, composed individual.'

You say, 'Strength?'

Skal Nethus says 'Ah, you know me too well. Yes, my interest in the Rot is not wholly selfless. I would like to find a way to cure adventurers of this blight, but I am sure it would be possible to manipulate the compounds of the disease in order to safely [augment] one's strength. Doubtless, it would be safer than my previous experiments with those [Voidsouls].'

You say, 'How can you safely augment it?'

Skal Nethus says 'Bring me samples of Dungeon Rot from dungeons and caves around Norrath. If I can synthesize the various strains of the disease, a power increase is almost certain...and we can cure any adventurers that are unlucky enough to become infected. Will you [collect] some samples?'

You say, 'I'll collect some'

Skal Nethus says 'Thank you! Look for the stronger creatures in these dungeons. I am sure they are more susceptible to the disease because of their propensity for aggression. But be careful that the Rot does not spread from them to other nearby angry creatures.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Dungeon Rot Infected'.

Search for creatures infected by Dungeon Rot in Upper Guk, Solusek's Eye, the Crystal caverns, Kaesora, Lower Guk, the Howling Stones, the Crypt of Nadox, Ssraeshza Temple, the Bastion of Thunder, the Fortress of Zek, the Vergalid Mines, Zhisza, Toskirakk, and Kaesora Library.

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Upper Guk to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Solusek to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Crystal to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Kaesora to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Lower Guk to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Stones to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Nadox to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Ssraeshza to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Thunder to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Zek to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Vergalid to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Zhisza to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Toskirakk to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Deliver 1 Dungeon Rot Spores of Kaesora Library to Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

Speak with Skal Nethus 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

You say, 'Hail, Skal Nethus'

Skal Nethus says 'My, this Dungeon Rot is potent! I am surprised you have not come to me with your face like magma and your arms waving in a frenzy. With my extensive knowledge and capabilities, I will extract the strength-giving compounds from the spores...ah, here we go. This substance I have synthesized will grant you power without ill effects. Here, take some of it as compensation for your efforts. Now I must consider whether I can concoct a cure for the blight...'

The above 13 items come from the 13 hot zones added with the December, 8, 2010, patch.

These drops may come from specific mobs or mob types. While fighting them, they'll transform into a Dungeon Rot infected mob and drop the item.

This is a list of confirmed mobs. Please let us know if you have any to add here.

Upper Guk - yun ghoul wizard; a froglok ton knight; a froglok ton warrior.

Solusek's Eye - gnome miners (note: they give negative Ak`Anon faction); east side of the zone.

Crystal Caverns - a stalag terror (bottom of zone, left tunnel); a crystal crawler (near stalags).

Kaesora - a skeletal guardian

Lower Guk - an urd ghoul wizard; a kor ghoul wizard

Howling Stones - mortiferous golem (straight east of zone-in; stairs leading up to the door are fake, can levitate over from another platform).

Ssraeshza Temple - an Imperial Golem - south/eastern 3rd floor section. Bone Spiked Golem and An Enchanted Golem.

Bastion of Thunder - a Vann Stav (from the stormrider area, use the southwest port-up to the towers).

Tactics - Hendin Shadow Master (found in the halls that lead up to Rallos Zek? above the pit, north).

Vergalid - a spawn of Vergalid and a Vergalid Elite both turn into Dungeon Rot mobs; these are past the keyed area just before you get to Vergalid at the bottom of the pit.

Zhisza - a Shissar deathmaker inside the pyramid in the north. Possibly other Shissar types inside the pyramid.

Toskirakk - Rallosian ogres (certain types?)

Kaesora Library - a corrupt defiler; a corrupt warlock

In Zhisza, I never got the Shissar deathmaker to turn, but the temple deathmaker did. In fact, every temple deathmaker I killed turned... so try those if you're doing this

I just ruined a ton of faction with the good frogs in upper guk (City of Guk) with my enchanter running around the zone and nuking frogs to get the dungeon rot to spawn. I was trying to get the "hunter" achievement done while I was running around working on this quest. I got the hunter achievement finished, and kept killing frogs all over the zone to the point of frustration. Then, I remembered some other situation where killing mobs in 1 hit wouldn't allow the respawn to happen, so I decided to melee the mobs instead of nuking them. 2nd Mob spawned the dungeon rot and I got my drop. Not sure if it was complete coincidence or not... but I still have 11 more to do, and I'm gonna see what happens. Additionally, I was nuking mobs in lower guk for a LONG time without a dungeon rot spawn, then another group came in, and was pulling trains into the safe hall and got 2 to spawn in a single pull, but they were all being killed with a DS and Melee skills.

Correct, they won't turn into Dungeon Rot infected if you kill them in one hit due to your high level.

The tactic I used is to gather a bunch of mobs, then turn on your damage shield (back slot item clicky) temporarily, and look for some of the damaged mobs to turn.

In a group of mobs, either none of them turn into infecteds, or a bunch of them do. Maybe it's semi-viral if you find that one susceptible mob?

Also turned " a bone-spiked golem" and "An Enchanted Golem"

They were the first golems at the top of the lift. They can be pulled into the lift without triggering the mana-drain curse

Is lamentably stupid. I'm trying to get two Melodious Truncheons off the golems in HS except they keep 'dungeon rotting' which, as far as I can tell, seems to wipe their loot table and replace it with a jolly dungeon rot spore, (HOORAY). I've seen similar complaints from Shadowknights trying to complete their epic 2.0.

As per an earlier post ... I still haven't found which mobs turn to rot in Drunder, Fortress of Zek, aka Tactics. I've been through the zone a few times now killing pretty much everything except Rallos Zek. Hate to think that he's the only mob in the zone that rots! This is very different from the other zones where once you got to the right type of mob it didn't take long to make one rot. I'd like to get this done but there's too much other stuff on my "to do" list!

I can honestly say that this aug is a slight upgrade over the Escaped Voidsouls reward. Unfortunately, the Escaped Voidsouls aug was the result of one of the worst time/reward/level quests of all time. That being said this aug is similarly useless and definitely not worth having at level 80.

I wouldn't waste the bank space. Why waste the effort?
