This is the first task in a series of five. It begins with Weligon Steelherder in Erudin Burning (located in the second floor of the building next to the dock area).
You say, 'Hail, Weligon Steelherder' Weligon Steelherder says 'I wish I could muster the will to give you a hearty greeting, friend, but the shambles our beloved High City has been reduced to finds me quite subdued. The Castle burns, the people are dying, the spirit of Erud weeps. A great apocalypse has come to the city. A wave of [terror] has spread to our city, and it appears unstoppable.' You say, 'Terror?' Weligon Steelherder says 'Here we sit, exhausted, having been driven from the city by the Heretics and their ilk. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of them fell, and yet they simply kept coming. No matter how many we killed, there were always dozens more. It makes no sense. There cannot have been so many of them lurking in all Norrath, let alone within striking distance of [Erudin].' You say, 'What's happened to Erudin?' Weligon Steelherder says 'Our proud city, the bastion of civilized thought in a weary world, is all but completely destroyed. Endless teams of heretics have taken the city by storm, overwhelming all of our defenses in hours. There are but [few] of us left - not enough to turn back the murderous surging masses of Heretics come here to destroy, pillage, and terrorize. The castle burns brightly above us. . . and I am at a loss to express my shame and sorrow that such an event could ever have been allowed to happen.' You say, 'A few?' Weligon Steelherder says 'The Knights and the sentinels are all but exhausted, three days of valiant counterattacks upon the Heretic burrow entrance have decimated their numbers even further, and sapped their strength. Others have become steeped in horrible, blasphemous visions of the total destruction of the city, and their morale has been broken. I can't expect them to take action again anytime soon. There may be a few things you can [do] to lift all of our spirits, to prove to us that in spite of this nightmarish situation, there must still be hope.' You say, 'What can I do?' Weligon Steelherder says 'First. . . you might speak to some of the Deepwater Knights and try to lift their morale with a few words of inspiration. If you would [agree] to do this, I'll be able to suggest other things that might be done to lift us out of this predicament.' You say, 'I'll agree to do it' Weligon Steelherder says 'Bless you. It is as if Erud himself sent you to us, to set things right once again.' You have been assigned the task 'Heretics Among Us'. Weligon Steelherder needs your help with some vital duties on behalf of the Deepwater Knights and the defenders of Erudin in their darkest hour. Offer words of inspiration and encouragement to any of the Deepwater knights 0/5 (Erudin) Hail any Deepwater Knight NPC for these updates. You'll see responses like this: a Deepwater Knight says 'I cannot fathom how the city will ever be the same after the events of recent days, nor do any of the Deepwater Knights understand how we will live with ourselves now. The one time in recent memory we were called upon to defend the High City, and we failed utterly. Yes, I accept your words of inspiration and encouragement, but we need more than that now.' a Deepwater Knight says 'I am doing better after the earlier routing of our entire force, thank you. There is no time for remorse or sympathies. Only a victory against the Heretics and the recapture of our city will dispell the lingering terror that I now feel.' a Deepwater Knights initiate says 'The nightmarish visions began just after the attack, enough to burn my very soul. Thank you for trying to lift my spirits, it is appreciated.' Ask Weligon Steelherder what more can be done to help 0/1 (Erudin Burning) You say, 'Hail, Weligon Steelherder' Weligon Steelherder says 'Thank you for inspiring the Knights. The relentless dread, terror, and horror has made their duties nearly unbearable. Would that we could understand where the Heretics of Paineel suddenly came into so much strength that they could overwhelm the High City. . . would that we could awaken from this endless nightmare. The next thing you can do is clear the port of Heretic infiltrators. I don't know how they made it here with the sea burning, but it should be enough to kill five of them. If you should find any infiltrator sappers or pyromancers, bring me back their heads. We will need to make a special example out of those in particular, as they are the ones best equipped to destroy the rest of Erudin.' Kill 5 of the Heretic infiltrators near the docks 0/5 (Erudin Burning) Retrieve the head of an Infiltrator Sapper 0/1 (Erudin Burning) Retrieve the head of an Infiltrator Pyromancer 0/1 (Erudin Burning) As you may imagine, the above two mobs drop their heads rather commonly. They, along with the Heretic infiltrators, are found all around the dock area. Give the head of an Infiltrator Sapper to Weligon Steelherder 0/1 (Erudin Burning) Give the head of an Infiltrator Pyromancer to Weligon Steelherder 0/1 (Erudin Burning) Speak with Weligon Steelherder 0/1 (Erudin Burning) (Closing?)
