This is a description of the Chessboard ring event. The chessboard in the Plane of Mischief is now surrounded by jester-looking mobs. One side has all white pieces (this includes the outer hallway: white pawns, white bishops, white knights, white castles, and white queens). The other half is the black pieces (names?). Killing a white piece will always respawn another white piece, although it is random which piece will spawn; kill a pawn and a queen can spawn.
Each piece can drop an idol corresponding to its name, i.e., a white queen will drop a white queen piece. I never saw a white pawn drop anything, but the others did. Drops are uncommon/rare. There are two quest mobs, one on each throne. Leea Brumplefoot can be found next to the Chessboard, opposite her opponent Ronald. You say, 'Hail, Leea Brumplefoot' Leea Brumplefoot says 'What does one have to do to win at this game? Each move I make they counter with a better move. I sure could use some help.' You say, 'Help?' I just did this chess game. I had no preference in the color, just whatever I could collect first. I didn't bother collecting the Pawns, but I can tell you right now that both Black and White Pawns drop their respective color pieces, as I destroyed numerous of each color. I was here doing this for 3-4 days off and on, and not once did I see the Black Queen.
I ended up collecting all of the White pieces first, so I turned them into Ronald Brumplefoot. Once I got to and killed the White King, he dropped:
2x Brass Locket of Destiny
and
Soluble Loam

When I did this event in Oct 2008, nothing special dropped from any mob in the event except the King, who dropped Studded Black Pearl Earring, and Leather Tunic of Relaxation.

Few additions:
- The mobs that spawn during this ring event aren't the same as the normal versions as every one of them summons. Like the normal versions they are fully root/snarable.
- The king is lbue to lvl 85, and headshotable at rank 13 headshot. Being headshotable he must be lvl 72 or lower, and I don't know what the lblue conning says about his minimum level.
- As with the normal spawns, they're all humanoids (I checked and I did headshot at least 1 of each type of the chess piece during the event)
- The king dropped exactly 2 items; Tri-Threaded Cord of Glee and Mysterious Bracelet of Furtive Thoughts (not currently listed as one of his drops in alla)

Did this again last night, a couple of further notes:
The mob names as listed are correct for this event. Note the names of the event mobs (except for the king and queen) are exactly the same as the normal trash mobs in the area, and judging from con color they are of similar level.
The Brumplefoots (Brumplefeet if you like) despawn right after the initial turn-in when the first wave spawns, not at the end of the event.
This time around, the_Black_King dropped Tri-Threaded Cord of Glee and Grand Gauntlets of Goading.
Lastly, though I can't confirm for the chessboard events, the Hidden Jester ring event (a similar event elsewhere in the zone) despawns exactly 1 hour after it is first spawned; so I think it's safe to guess the chessboard events do likewise.
