This task begins with Tavik Gearpaq who is located in the Ak'Anon Strike Force camp near the zone-in of Fortress Mechanotus.
You say, 'Hail, Tavik Gearpaq' Tavik Gearpaq says 'Ah welcome, welcome! It's good to see some people other than my fellow compatriots here. They are interesting enough in their own right, but they just don't seem as interested in these new things around us as I am. Take the [alloys] these clockworks running around are made of, it's amazing! And then there are these fascinating [crystals] I keep seeing everywhere. I've been spending quite a bit of time studying them.' You say, 'Alloys?' Tavik Gearpaq says 'I can safely say that the clockworks from Ak'Anon are not made of the same metals as the ones found up here. What puzzles me is that I haven't been able to figure out what sort of metal actually is used up here. The bits of the clockworks that we have retrieved for study haven't yielded any results. It's like the oil and grime from their operation has corrupted the properties of the metal. There's only one [solution] I've been able to think of for this.' You say, 'Solution?' Tavik Gearpaq says 'If I could get my hands on some of the metal before it is actually used in an operational clockwork I'm sure it would get better results for me. You look like you've had some success infiltrating Meldrath's operations here. Would you be [willing] to find a few samples for me?' You say, 'I would be willing' Tavik Gearpaq says 'Perfect! Once you've found those samples we'll see what we can find. I can't wait to find out what goes into this alloy.' You have been assigned the task 'Alloy Sampling'. These allow samples should give the gnomes a good start on studying the construction and properties of Meldrath's clockworks. Loot 4 Gnomium Samples 0/4 (The Steam Factory) While you search for the alloy, take out a couple foundry workers 0/5 (The Steam Factory) This stage can be completed before collecting the groundspawns, if you choose. Bring the Gnomium Samples to Tavik Gearpaq 0/4 (Fortress Mechanotus) The Steam Factory's foundry is the large northern room of the zone. Gnomium Samples are groundspawns. The find, kill and and deliver steps all show up right away.
However, i found he would not take the Gnomium, as I did not have the kill step also completed.
