This task begins with Tavik Gearpaq who is in the Ak'Anon Strike Force camp near the Fortress Mechanotus zone-in.

    You say, 'Hail, Tavik Gearpaq'

Tavik Gearpaq says 'Ah welcome, welcome! It's good to see some people other than my fellow compatriots here. They are interesting enough in their own right, but they just don't seem as interested in these new things around us as I am. Take the [alloys] these clockworks running around are made of, it's amazing! And then there are these fascinating [crystals] I keep seeing everywhere. I've been spending quite a bit of time studying them.'

    You say, 'Crystals?'

Tavik Gearpaq says 'These crystals supply a large portion of the power used by Meldrath's clockworks. You wouldn't think of it by just looking at them, but they can pack quite a bit of power. I'm planning on taking my work with them back to Ak'Anon, but in the meantime I think I've made an important [discovery].'

    You say, 'What discovery?'

Tavik Gearpaq says 'Working with a few of the spell casters here we've managed to dirty up the power of several crystals. I wouldn't want to put them in my own experiments, but I can't pass up the chance to see what effect this has on the clockworks. Would you have any interest in [assisting] with this experiment?'

You say, 'I have an interest in assisting with this experiment.'

You have been assigned the task 'Stopping Production'.

Tavik Gearpaq says 'Excellent, excellent, the trick I think is to get these crystals to where Meldrath's clockworks would actually use them. If you can find where the clockworks are being made you should be able to drop these off where they will be put into use. You'll want to be careful though. As soon as things start going wrong Meldrath's engineers will likely come take a look. You'll need to prevent them from disposing of the crystals if we're to have a full test of what they can do.'

You receive 3 x Tainted Crystal (identifies as "A crystal used to store magical power").

You have one hour to complete this task. The Manufacturing Plant is the long rectangular room in the center of the zone. To get the updates you simply click on three different boxes (+507, -268), (+678, +37), (+507, -35) surrounding the walls of the room and kill the 'Quality Control Bot I' that spawns with each cyrstal update.

Charming with a Bard works nicely.

Charming the Control bots with a Bard works very well here. Your Bard need to be level 84 though, so you have Voice of the Mindshear which can charm up to l83.

Invis up, target Control bot within range of your Charm spell (75), start casting Charmsong and then Fade while the 3s timer is still going down. Timer will keep going down, then when Charm lands, immediately fade again so that your new pet wil not aggro anything nearby. Then run to your safe spot. Be sure that you do not run past any of the devices that actually trigger the control bots alarm so set up your safe camp wisely (I did it in the hallway that goes West towards the large Hangar area). When I had my camp elsewhere, the charmed pet had to path a long way along the sidewalks in that room and at some point he always started shouting stuff, lost him as a pet and started aggroing the hell out of the room.

You can also do /pet sit as soon as you have charmed him, run to your safe spot then use Ribbon of Empathy to summon him! THis is a nice method anyway since your pet will not run at the same (selo) speed as you, and you may lose him along the way due to pathing issues.
    Soloable

Just soloed this rather easily with a decently geared 85 ranger and a T5 cleric merc. Spawn the quality controll bots while invis, then move to of of the relatively "safe" areas under the walkway that runs arouns the room. These areas have a support post on either side and a large colum, supporting the controll area above it, between you and the conveyor area. That provides enough cover to use Harmonious Arrow to pull the mob in and beat it down 1 on 1 without adds seeing you.

Just solo'ed this quest, cost me a couple of deaths and a couple of Invulnerability pots. Relies a lot on VP (Virulent Paralysis) hence a bit of a shammy-centric solution. Also, if a named is up in the manufacturing plant they see invis and make this impossible.

    1. Get quest (it's timed so don't mess around after getting it - only got 1h)
    2. Run to quest room (manufacturing plant), stay invis and click on the 3 crates to pop all 3 QC bots, if they are not up already. If they are up already, extras don't spawn so no problem.
    3. Summon a low level (sacrificial) pet and put it on guard at bot II or III (these are the ones with many adds)
    4. Check map and head towards the nearest zone out. Wait just past the room where the biomass is. The long corridor going through this room will give you the best view of the huge train you are about to pull.
    5. Send in the dog on the QC bot. You may need to be closer to get in range if dog won't attack. It's best to time it so that the biomass is pathing back to the room. Then he won't aggro you before the train pulls him in.
    6. As soon as the train comes up the ramp and into sight look for your target ring, hit VP as soon as you see it then either zone out quick or hit an invulnerablility pot and zone out a bit more casually. I chose latter as the train will be on you too quick probably. Thats where i died a couple of times, getting timing right.
    7. Hit invis and zone back in quick, go past the VP'd bot (pre-target it) and wait at bottom of ramp that goes into manufacturing plan - this is where the bot will path back to its spawn.
    8. Wait for VP to wear off then as it comes down ramp re-VP and rot it. They don't summon.
    9. Same again with the other of Bot II or III, whichever you didn't just kill.
    10. Go into clear corner of room close to where Bot I popped.
    11. Pull him and VP into corner to rot. There is a single wanderer there you may want to take out first as he may aggro the corner.
    12. Report back to Tarvik Gearpaq before you run out of time.

I did this over the weekend with 45 mins left to spare on mission timer.
    Here is how:

    Good group with solid DPS:
Rog, Rng, War, Shm, Clr, Brd

Set up in corner where Bot III spawns (no one has mission at this point).
Clear the mobs around Bot III and Bot II spawn points. Once thats done have 2 or 3 members who need mission to RUN! to zone (the one closer to FM tent camp).
They all run to Gearpaq and get mission run back.
Hopefully your DPS was high enough and the room is still clear.
Then have each person with quest spawn III and II as needed. Save I for last!
Once all members have II and III killed, move to I spawn area and kill as it's super easy.
After thats done, move back to original camp and repeat for anyone who is left.
The less DPS you have, the fewer you can have run to get mission.
I wouldnt try more than 3 personally, we only did 2 and JUST kept on top of spawn. Entire group TSS+ geared avg about 1000 AA.

~~taken from down below - I thought about testing this but didnt wanna chance it~~

you can click the boxes while invis.
have everyone doing the task click the box before you kill the control bots , extras dont spawn so the entire group can get the update from one kill.
for control bot I and II there are platforms on the walls near them that you can set up camp under.they are safe as long as you stay tight to the wall.the roamers can add if you dont so we just killed the roamers before pulling the control bots. we also invised the group while the puller was working on the split , this allowed our bard puller to train through camp .

    fixed maybe

It's supposed to be fixed with the June 11, 2008 patch, but earlier this week a GM answered a petition and said they were willing to get the task for me. Yes, it's timed, and yes you have to be ready when they magically appear.

    More Hints
    # May 05 2008 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
Pull nearby mobs before spawning the Quality Control Steamworks. One less mob to split makes life much happier on the puller. On 3rd stage, mez-pull enhanced steamsuits. There are two next to each other and the 5-7k DD they both fire off when aggroed is brutal.
