This group mission begins with Captain Jafar (click for map image) in the Barren Coast. He roams the area around -2230, 535 (the southernmost dock). There are no pre-requisites for requesting this task.

Note: Unlike most group missions, this task has only a two-hour timer.

Also Note: This task scales in level. Shown here is the highest level of difficulty (Level 73+). You can get it at lower group levels where the mobs won't be as difficult as suggested here.

    You say, 'Hail, Captain Jafar'

Captain Jafar says 'What do ya want, ya [worthless] maggot?'

    You say, 'Worthless?!'

Captain Jafar says 'Aye, worthless. You ain't no mutineer, I can tell that much. But you ain't no sailor either. Just a land slug, if you ask me. Bah, if you could do anything other than stink up the place I'd [be surprised].'

You say, 'You will be surprised'

Captain Jafar says 'Hah, cheeky slug! Aye, I'll give you a chance to prove yerself. If yer alone, then there's only [two things] I need, if you can do any of them I'll be shocked. If ya knows a handful of wretched bugs like yerself, then I know someone with [work] that might be able to get you killed all at once.'

    You say, 'What work?'

Captain Jafar says 'Har! Work! A slug like you don't know what work is. But Undertow will teach ya, that's fer sure.'

You have been assigned the task 'Stop Kenox!'.

Captain Jafar has instructed each member of your party to speak with Harbormaster Blumble and purchase a ticket to the Open Sea, and then board the Bloodcrest for passage.

It is told that Kenox can never die and that he can never be free of his watery grave unless he somehow manages to raise his ship from beneath the waves as well. It seems he may have done just that, and you have been asked to return him to the bottom of the sea.

The only thing you have to worry about is the rumor that Kenox cannot be harmed while he defies his curse by sailing on the water instead of swimming in it. The legend says that "If any living soul he sees while riding on the seas, beyond their touch he will be." Hopefully that is just a rumor.

Purchase tickets to The Open Sea and catch the boat 0/1 (Barren Coast)

Buy a "Seafarer's Ticket: The Open Sea" from any of the Dockmasters along the coastline and keep it in your inventory. When the ship docks, step onto it and wait for it to sail out to the Buried Sea. Upon zoning, you'll find yourself on board a ship.

Dockmaster Jones says 'Ye look like ye've been out ta sea on a mission for a bit, and perhaps yer head'n back out? If'n ye are, ye will need to get a ticket from me before yer able to board the Bloodcrest!'

Find the key to the captain's quarters, Kenox is probably in there 0/1 (The Open Sea)

You'll need to head onto the other undead ship and down a few levels where you'll find "Soggybones" (on the second deck down). He hits for a max ~1,700 and flees at low health. Loot "Coral Key" from its corpse (the key to Kenox's door).

Find a way to kill Kenox 0/1 (The Open Sea)

Loot a "Necromatic Soul Barrier" (can drop from "a fallen knight" mobs scattered throughout the hostile undead ship or from "a weathered chest"). Everyone in the zone needs one of these, otherwise you won't be able to damage Kenox.

Next, go to the room at the top of the hostile undead ship, put the Coral Key on your cursor, and hit the "u" key. Then kill Kenox, who has ~130,000 hitpoints, hits for a max ~3,100, flurries, and casts "Everburning Flame" (DOT for 200 hp/tick for 10 minutes, 8 curse counters).

Note: A named, Rufus Sathar, stands outside Kenox's door. He is of the same difficulty as Soggybones.

Kenox says 'Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn!'

Kenox has been slain by _____!
Kenox's corpse says 'The fire, no more fire. Thank you for releasing me.'

Your faction standing with Blacksail Pirates has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Galigaba has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Sharpeye's Reef Runners has been adjusted by 1.

Speak with Shufflefeet to get back to the shore 0/1 (The Open Sea)

    You say, 'Hail, Shufflefeet'

Shufflefeet says 'Arr! Me be too busy to flap my jaw with the like of you. Do you work and come back when yer [done] or [too cowardly to continue].'

    You say, 'We are done'

Shufflefeet says 'Har! If'n you say so, then it must be true. I just sail this rig. Oh, she's fast. Fast in ways that no mortal ship ken match. So if yer [ready to leave], just say so.'

You say, 'We're ready to leave'

The ship fades out for a moment, and you feel terribly sick as you pass through the realm of the dead to return to the Barren Coast.

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
    You have entered Barren Coast.

Speak with Captain Jafar 0/1 (The Open Sea)

    You say, 'Hail, Captain Jafar'

You have succeeded and the walking dead are pleased.

    As of 2020.10.18:
Once you obtain this quest, you must board the ship from the southernmost dock. If you purchase a ticket to the Open Sea and then try any of the other boats, you will be taken to the Buried Sea. If you try the other docks, the ticket will not be consumed. Remain on the boat to be taken back to your origination dock.

From the South dock, the boat name is the "Bloodcrest". Sails are in tatters. Climb on to be taken to The Open Sea, SHIPUVU.

    Steps:

Purchase tickets to the open sea and catch the boat
Find the key to the captain's quarters, Kenox is probably in there.
Find a way to kill Kenox.
Speak with Shufflefeet to go back to the shore.
    Speak with Captain jafar.

    Errata:

Buy a ticket to Open sea, hop on a boat and zone in,

You appear on a friendly undead boat connected by planks to the enemy ship.

First you need to find the "Coral Key" (Magic, Lore, No Trade, temporary, all/all, weight 0.1, size tiny). It drops off Soggybones (light blue at 85). He is in the 2nd deck down in the big center room.

I used IVU to run to the front of the ship, thru the door and then down the ramps to get to him. I then attacked him in the corner and only got 2 adds. No idea how i only got 2 adds... very lucky.

Next you need to find a way to kill Kenox. It appears you need to loot a Necromatic Soul Barrier (nagic, lore, no trade, temporary, all/all, size tiny, weight 0.3). Supposedly this works by either protecting you from some room effect where Kenox is, or allows you to damage and kill him.

This item drops off A Fallen Knight or can be looted from A Weathered Chest.

Next, go back up and then to the back of the ship. use the key on the the top most door to open it (you also need to use it to get back out). Then go in and kill Kenox.

Next run back to the other ship and speak to Shufflefeet (hes by the ships wheel) to zone. Be sure to hail and THEN say ready to leave.

Then hail Jafar to finish up.

    Here's the trick!

The devices are important. You need to loot a "Necromantic Soul Barrier". We didn't test whether only the people who go into the room need them, or everyone does. For sure everyone in the room needs one. We looted a couple, rushed him, and nobody could affect him, whether we had them or not. When everyone got one, attacks started to land.

Looked like soul barriers could be found in the chests, and drop from Fallen Knights.

Once we were appropriately equipped, he did drop pretty easily.

    We did this one.

    Group was...

    Cleric
    Beastlord
    Shaman
    Warrior
    Paladin
    Ranger (left towards end)

Strat, cross the boat and kill stuff on the deck. Work your way belowdecks until you find Soggybones. Kill him and have your tank loot the key. Go back upstairs to the Captain's door. Open the door and rush him. He is leashed. If he leashes he complete heals himself. Beat him down = win.

There were some kind of devices we looted throughout this. Not sure what purpose they served. I think they maybe protected from an AE but that is just a guess. Trash hit me for ~1k max, named ~2k max (I'm the beastlord).
