This is the fourth task in a series of five. It begins with Zhureni at location -1515, +1025 in Sunderock.
Upon completion of the previous task: Dialogues needed. You have been assigned the task 'Evidence of Corruption'. Task description needed. Loot 20 Smoldering Ashes 0/20 (Ashengate) Collect 3 Lava Ooze Glands 0/3 (Ashengate) Collect 3 Igneous Cairn Stones 0/3 (Ashengate) Collect 1 Vial of Burning Liquid 0/1 (Ashengate) Smoldering Ashes are dropped by drakes; Cairn Stones are dropped by golems; Lava Ooze Glands are dropped by slimes; and Vials of Burning Liquid are dropped by random mobs. NOTE: The ashes NOT pre-lootable, but the other items are. Deliver 3 Lava Ooze Glands to Zhureni 0/3 (Sunderock Springs) Deliver 3 Igneous Cairn Stones to Zhureni 0/3 (Sunderock Springs) Deliver 1 Vial of Burning Liquid to Zhureni 0/1 (Sunderock Springs) Speak to Zhureni 0/1 (Sunderock Springs) You say, 'Hail, Zhureni' Your task 'Evidence of Corruption' has been updated. Zhureni is delighted with your sample, and thinks they should be enough to ascertain the origins of Solusek's Magic and how to unmake it. Your faction standing with Scholars of Solusek got better. confirmed you can preloot them only the 20 ash cant be

As of 6/3/2010 you can NOT pre-loot any of this
I completed this task on 2010-05-22 on two characters, roughly 12 days before the mentioned date (2010-06-03). I was able to pre-loot everything except the 20 smoldering ashes. There were no server patches or anything between those dates, so I would find it unusual that something would change between those times.
Also, I have completed this task in the past on several characters (3 characters roughly 2 years ago, 2 characters in May 2010) and it has always been the same:
Not-pre-lootable: 20 x Smoldering Ashes
Pre-lootable: 3 x Lava Ooze Glands
Pre-lootable: 3 x Igneous Cairn Stones
Pre-lootable: 1 x Vial of Burning Liquid

Confirmed today 13Apr2008 - you can preloot the:
Collect 3 Lava Ooze Glands
Collect 3 Igneous Cairn Stones
Collect 1 Vial of Burning Liquid
You cannot preloot the ash, it does not update the quest as I tried that as well.

Yes, you can pre-loot these items.
If a task says "Collect xx items", you can usually get them ahead of time. If the items are tradable, you can even get them from someone else.
If a task says "Loot xx items", you must have the task and be at that stage, and you must loot it yourself for it to count.
