This task was introduced in October 2006 and is available every year around Halloween.
It begins with Syxa Jewlborn in Kithicor Forest (at the zone-in from the Commonlands). You say, 'Hail, Syxa Jewlborn' Syxa Jewlborn says 'Please help me find my missing cat, she has gone astray and I can't seem to find her anywhere. Her name is Muffin. Will you [help] me? Oh please!' You say, 'I will help!' Syxa Jewlborn says 'Please bring her back safely!' You have been assigned the task 'Find the Black Cat'. Syxa Jewlborn has lost her cat named Muffin in the Kithicor Forest. Help Syxa find her cat and return it to her safely. Find Syxa's missing cat 0/1 (Kithicor Forest) Find "a black cat" which roams the central and western parts of the zone. When hailed, it turns into "Muffin". You say, 'Hail, a black cat' Muffin says 'meow...' Return Syxa's cat to her 0/1 (Kithicor Forest) You say, 'Hail, Syxa Jewlborn' Without the cat at your side: Syxa Jewlborn says 'Did you find Muffin? I don't see her anywhere. Please return her to me safely!' With the cat at your side: Syxa Jewlborn says 'Oh you found her! How can I ever repay you.' If you are boxing this mission keep in mind once someone hails a cat another one will not spawn until they either zone or do the final hail. I spent over an hour running around waiting for respawns with nothing. Once I did the hail another cat spawned so my remaining boxes could complete the task.
Speaking of track, the track window shows there are 3 "a black cat" up at any given time, day or night. Once a cat is turned in, it respawns in just under 5 minutes. The black cats roam slowly, but once you turn one into Muffin you can run back to the quest NPC at full speed and it will follow no problem, like a pet.

Why do they gear these tasks to trackers? If you cannot track how to you find some thing some where in the zone? What about the toons that can not track?
I did this today and hailed the cat. when I got back to hail Sxya acted as if the cat weren't there. Then I realized something was funny with my pet - I couldn't buff it and couldn't suspend it (said I had a pet). I summoned pet and hailed and got update. It almost seemed like the cat was in place of my pet. After hail my pet was back to normal.

I can not get this task to repeat for me, I did it 2 times with my main and now she tells me she does not have task for my level, I have waited over 12 hours to rehail, same message, I would post something about this on EQlive, but I can not seem to get logged in lately (last month or so) ... any info how to reset my timer would be nice ... thanx

This is a true illusion (not like the costume kits) and will therefore last a long time and through illusions if you have the AAs to support it.
