There are six islands in Blackfeather Roost, each with its own requirements for access (you can port from island to island after completing a short task for each):
- The Base (entered from Goru'kar Mesa) - The First Ledge (complete this task) - The Harpy Grove (see this task) - The Harpy Cliffs (see this task) - The Harpy Mesa (see this task) - The Royal Throne (see this task) This task begins with Fenith who is located at the opposite end of the island upon zoning into Blackfeather Roost (near the tame griffon). You say, 'Hail, Fenith' Fenith says 'What? Who's there? Oh my [nerves]!' You say, 'Your nerves?' Fenith says 'Ever since my capture I just can't seem to stop shaking. I'm so afraid all the time now, especially of the [griffons]. Of course, that's the worst part because I have to feed them every day!' You say, 'What griffons?' Fenith says 'Oh those hateful fearsome beasts! They haunted my nightmares as a young satyr and now all my nightmares have come true. A horrible harpy, Ashrana was her name, swooped down from above commanding a griffon and whisked me, bound and helpless, [into the air]!' You say, 'Into the air!' Fenith says 'Why would you even ask me about riding them? You can't possibly want to ride a griffon [do] you?' You say, 'I do' Fenith says 'If you do then you're crazier than you look. Fine, I'll help you, but only if you help me! You can feed the griffon today instead of me! Haha! You see, if you want to ride the griffon, first you have to feed it or it just might eat you instead!. Combine some bear meat with a little snake meat, add in a puma paw and a tuft of bear fur and put it all in this Griffon Treat Kit and feed it to the griffon in the nest over there. If you're crazy enough to get that close to such a dangerous beast, he might let you ride him from place to place. Or he might eat your hand. One or the other . . .' You have been assigned the task 'Blackfeather Roost, The Ledge'.
If you want to ride the griffon first you have to feed it. Combine some bear meat with a little snake meat, add in a puma paw and a tuft of bear fur and put it all in this Griffon Treat Kit and feed it to the griffon in the nest over there. If you're crazy enough to get that close to such a dangerous beast he might let you ride him from place to place. Or he might eat your hand, one or the other... You receive Fenith's Griffon Treat Kit, a 4 slot container. This is the lead-in to the second task, "Blackfeather Roost, The Grove". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Make sure you are looking at your Task window and not your Quest window, so you can accept the task.
BUY THE BEAR MEAT (maybe snake meat and eggs)
Instead of grinding bears and snakes with relatively low drop rates, you can buy the bear meat in PoK near the stove. Dunno about snake meat.
I'm not sure if you can buy spider eggs, but they drop easily in Goru'kar Mesa. The spiders in Blackroost are always fighting bears which means no eggs for joo!

The first time I spoke with Fenith I never got the Task prompt but I did get the satchel. I collected all the parts and made the treat. Griffon wouldn't take it. I spoke with Fenith again, went through the dialog and got the task prompt. Then the Griffon ate.
At 47 I went through the text with Fenith, he gave me the information about what to collect and the container, but the task in my quest window was The Royal Throne ... about killing guards.
And, the tame griffon would not take the treat I made.... Deleted that task and said just the final words in task one. Again I get the container but the same wrong task. I guess I will wait until I am level 50. Fenith's identification says tasks 50 and higher.

So, I tried plenty of things today, I only have the default UI, but I camped, hailed him and it, nothing, wouldnt accept my treat.. sigh

Not sure but may be your level. I did the treat part 3 times no success logged out and did it again....Well ill just climb up in the nest and see....boom next island didnt do the quest.

I had the problem with the griffon not wanting the pie on a toon also. I simple dropped the quest, got it again. I was able to keep the pie. The griffon excepted it this time.
Names of tasks in this line have been abbreviated,
this is now "Blackfeather Roost, The Ledge"

Guys, When GM's act dumb it is because they are imitating you.....
READ the quest, The ingredients change from toon to toon, you ahve been succesful with one toon because you read the ingredients, but the ingredients on the second toon are probably different.
This is why you are being handed back the sandwich, pie or whatever.

NO, you are wrong, I have tryed this on all the toons i have leveled enough to camp this zone and all have had no problems at all until now, it is the same quest as all the rest except this time the griffon wont take the treat, this quest IS bugged and thanking you at will is a little premature considering I know I am not the only person with this problem, I did read it and says the same thing it has always said and the griffon still wont take the treat

Actually, the issue is as I reported. Had it happen to me on Vox the other day, and I zoned out, closed my client, logged back in and changed my UI to default, zoned in and got the quest assigned correctly. Had nothing to do with various ingredients. I had completed the quest numerous times in the past and had this page bookmarked for future reference. Try to not be so snarky in the future please.

For everyone confused on why you get the royal guard quest when trying to get the first level, get to level 50 before you try it. The quest will always give you the royal quest until 50. Happened to me at 45, grinded to 50 and was able to get the correct quest

With this being the case I would suggest reverting to the default UI if you are using a custom one by type /loadskin default 1 into your chat window. I used the default UI (even though my custom UI used the default quest journal window) and it worked fine. For clarification, if you tried to get access to the next platform in BFR but instead got the last task in the chain, use the defaul UI.

Ok heads up. Let me try to share some light for this quest. Its not bugged but the devs could have chosen a different name for the 1st and for the 2nd Griffon Quest hand-ins. As they are both named "a griffon treat" but 2 seperate quest-items in the same quest-line, it adds to the confusion. So...
1st Quest is named "Travel to the first ledge". If you dont have this quest, keep on removing the quests you recive from Fenith until ya get the right one.
Combine in the Treat kit:
1 Snake Meat
1 Bear Meat
1 Tuft of Bear Fur
1 Puma Paw and it will yield you the named "griffon treat". It looks like a pie. Feed the "tame griffon".
This yields you access to the second tier (i think you need to be lvl 50 for it as well, but dont count me on that).
2nd quest you also get from Fenith and its named "Travel to the Grove"
For this treat you need:
1 Bear Meat
1 Snake Meat
1 Spider Egg
1 Snake Shedding and it´ll look like a sandwich. Feed the griffon on the 2nd ledge and it´ll yield acess to the 3rd.
Easy as pie, but Sony coulda thaught twice about naming.

I did this quest last night, I didn't have any problems at all, but another person in my group got the other quest, to kill the guards.... I think he was doing something wrong, but can't swear to it. Four out of five in our group got the correct quest. We went on to complete that quest plus the next one in the "Harpy group".
My only suggestion is to read the directions carefully and do exactly what they say.

Ok, went looking for the Homer Simpson answer... checked computer - was plugged in ....checked switch - was turned on.....DOH! found out it isn't automatic...found out somehow I lost my Task window coming up (not task window journel) task window to accept the quest. I have a feeling many in the last two years have come across the same fate but not told...I must have hit enter or some key combination to accept the puma quest unknowingly and that's what threw me off. Trying this with another character showed me the difference.
Hope this helps someone out quicker than it took me to deduce - argh. Now to go see how to get that window to be back like it's supposed to be....

(He will give me the puma quest and I can complete just fine.) He responds to all the dialogue just fine. He will give me the kit just fine. I can make the pie/treat just fine. But neither the griffon will take the treat, nor does the quest journel show this task ask being accepted/active. Could someone clarify what us problem children should do please?
As of today this bug STILL exists. Trying to explain it to the GM's is like speaking Portguese to a native Icelander, too - they keep pretending that no matter what you try and tell them, since the quest is not in your quest journa you must not have actually tried to take it, let alone complete it by getting all the stuff from Fenith and making the treat.

This is definitely bugged, I've never been to this zone and when I hail the guy all the text he says is for the first quest and he gives me the treat kit but the task he actually assigns me is the "reach the royal throne" task... can't do any turn ins, can't get past the first level.

Tried it with 75 wiz and the griffon wouldn't take the treat.
If you are having trouble with the turn in - make sure you have accepted the task!
I can't get this to work, either. *sigh*

Say "Hint" to Fenith and he will give you a task box... Accept the task, hand the tame griffon the pie and then go back to Fenith.... Task Complete.
Tried this - didn't work either. Fen gives a second kit and the second recipe, but the task doesn't come up in the window automatically or to accept. And it does nothing to update the first task. I can make the seocnd treat (looks like a sandwich) but the first griffon doesnt want it - of course - and I can't get to the second bird to try it cause the first bird won't let me use the nest.

I helped a lvl 71 Bard with this quest last night (Sat. 11/18) and the griff would not accept the treat. They zoned out and back in and repeated the task, but without success.

Return to Fenith to learn more about the Griffons (this only appears after step one is completed)

WT: 0.1 Weight Reduction 0%
Capacity: 4 Size Capacity: SMALL
Once you combine the ingedients listed above, you get:

I have the treat looks like a pie, but when I give it to the tame griffon he only hands it back to me saying he has no need for it .. Is this a bug should I port it wile in the game ,,,

My hubby is having the same problem but is lvl 46. I did the quest alongside and had no problems I'm thinking that there is a lvl requirement to get up to the first ledge. Will come back and try later. There seems to be a third quest he gives however called " Blackfeather Roost- Reach the Royal Throne"

There is more than 1 tame griffon if you are getting the peice back, go up a level and hand it in, then you will get the update.
How do you "go up a level" when this task is to be able to go up a level?
(When I go in the nest it says the tame griffon won't let me use it to go up.)
