Find Cartographer Slipgear in Corathus Creep at -285, +200.

What level is this mission/task directed towards?

You say, 'Hail, Cartographer Slipgear'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Bzzt! Well hello there! It's always nice to see a new face! I get so tired of all the same faces and places, don't you?
Unfortunately my left leg is jammed and all I can do right now is walk in little circles! Bzzt! This has made it pretty hard for me to finish up the maps I have started of the surrounding areas. Would you like to [help]?

You say, 'I would like to help.'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Great! What I need is really pretty simple. I've managed to overhear some of the new arrivals talking about some of the surrounding areas and they sure do sound really exciting! Bzzt!
Since I can't go there myself right now I was hoping you could visit each one and then come back and describe them to me so I can add them to my maps. Do you [accept the mission]?'

You say, 'I accept the mission.'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Thanks! Here's the list of places I would like to hear more about. Bzzt! Come back and see me when you have finished with this list!'

The "list" of things to do:

-Explore the Depths (pretty simple exploration of the
Corathus Creep, reward is Slipgear's Gem)

-Chart the Undershore (exploration of the Undershore, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)
-Explore Stoneroot Falls (exploration of Stoneroot Falls, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)
-Beware the Hive (exploration of The Hive, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)
-Brave the Ruins of Illsalin (exploration of Ruins of Illsalin, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)

To get him to respond on the next set of tasks, make sure you have put Slipgear's Gem into an open augment slot in your gear.

Hello,

If you find a way to repeat this, you may want to post it. I have been unable to get it again. If you destroy the slipgear aug and hail he just gives you another slipgear aug and thanks you.

So raising the faction is just killing those 5-8 creep reaper's :(

hi,
just started on this.

I am 60 Mage.

found out about this quest. so started it. like the others said. Invisibility will help alot and make it easier on you for the 1st Explore the Depths.

NOW, i found that after i got the gem, Slipgear wouldn't give me the next quest/tasks to do. So i inserted the augment into a charm and then hailed him again.

This time he gave me the tasks. So not sure if any of you may encounter this same issue. But it's worth mentioning that you would have to first insert the slipgear gem into an augment spot and then ask him again.

Best of luck. now I'm off to do the other tasks...

I hadn't made a new character in years and just made a Drakkin Monk. I got him to level 10 and decided to shroud him to go do these quest. Well Slipgear wouldn't give me the quests. So I ran a level 20 character that hadn't done the quests before over to get them, and same deal. So I checked about every 5 levels or so. At 41 I still could not acquire a task.

At 45 I was able to get Explore the Depths. No additional at 47/48. I missed checking at 50, but...
At 51 I was able to get Chart the Undershore. I did not check 52-54.
At 55 I was able to get the remaining three tasks and complete them.

I tried this 2 nights ago and just returning from a three year AFK. Got all done except three parts from the hive in 1 dmf cast. I used 65 gobbie rog shroud.

There were 2 see invis mobs easily avoided in the ruins of ilsalin.

The hive was a different story.
Recluse Canyon: Easy, no brainer - run to end, get credit.
The East Obelisk: no SI mobs at entrance.
The Reanimation Chamber: 2 SI roamers, avoided by timing path.
Warren of the Conscripts: could not do, EVERY orc in con range could see thru the hide/sneak
Queen Sendaii's Shrine: could not do, same as above
The Living Bridges: didn't try, all buffs had faded from time taken trying warrens.

After completing everything except the hive, my aug is at +35hp level.

Bottom line, very fun quest. Will try again to get the last parts and see if my luck is better with the SI mobs. No deaths yet, 1 VERY close call (hit the zone line with <100hp).

Any trouble for an SoS rogue doing this? I know regular invis isn't enough for all the mobs, but maybe ours is?
Shrouding works.
# Aug 16 2006 at 6:31 AM Rating: Decent
I did this for the second time just now on my shm box.
I shrouded for all of Illsalin, and for the Queen in the Hive.
Everything else I went with regular invis, and was fine.

Only one death overall, (in the Hive), when I ran too far in the Queen's area.
Some mobs see through sneak, so watch that.
Shrouding works.
# Sep 09 2006 at 9:19 PM Rating: Decent
I tried doing the Hive. I got two of the waypoints. I could not get the Reanimation Chamber or the Warren. For the Warren, I imagine you have to descend into the the far tower to get to him, since I got to the X/Y positions fine over the top/outside but it did not give me the waypoint. There was a see-invis guarding the second tunnel entrace, not moving and facing the narrow door I needed to enter. Needless to say there was no way I could run in and tag that one. For the Reanimation Chamber, I ran over the waypoint several times and got the Obelisk waypoint instead. Is the Reanimation waypoint actually underground? Because the waypoint is techically above ground. I have no idea how to get to the Queen waypoint. Is she buried in a tunnel somewhere?

Not sure what quest you did, but shrouds definitely still work for this.
As always, I'm late to these parties. :)

Many of you did this a long time ago, but I just came back to EQ a month or two ago, and just heard of the Slipgear Aug a few days ago. For those of you (if there's any left) who don't know much about this or haven't started it, it's actually not bad. I did die twice, both on the Hive.

First, do get a shroud of a Rogue and beg or buy a SoE. Using the Rogue, use sneak/hide through all tasks. You can, in fact, get all five at the same time, that way you don't have to run back each after each.

The first three steps are easy - nothing sees through invis, so just head to the locations on the map after adding the map locations to the appropriate map files. For the fourth and fifth steps, as they say, /con everything.

The fourth step isn't too bad, once you start to get a feel for it. For me, that meant dying a couple of times. :) Beware of a couple of things: very few (I only saw a couple) of mobs do see through hide/sneak. Also, some spiderwebs are traps: sometimes a snare, sometimes it wipes your hide/sneak. So before you go through a web, make sure the wanderer is far away. If it wipes hide/sneak, quickly re-do them and you'll be fine. If you get aggro, you're dead. :)

The fifth step was easy - only one mob saw me (a boss in one of the rooms - forgot which - heheh), but nothing else saw through hide/sneak. The hardest part about this one (and #4) was figuring out how to get to the waypoints, as you need to be at the right height, as well as East/West, North/South /loc.

With the deaths/rezzes, probably took me a couple of hours, but a great augment for 2 hours work whilst LFG or just for some "quiet time". :) I would say doing it inside an hour is very doable, but I've never been to any of the zones... :)

You can avoid a lot of aggravation getting the living bridges update to your Hive task if you have levitation on you.
Climb up the outside of the eastern building to the top, face north and you will see a giant pillar climbing to the ceiling. While looking up to reduce your drop rate, circle around the right side of that pillar and you can land onto one of the bridges. Run up along the bridges until you get your update then run back to the giant pillar where the lowest bridge comes out and levitate back to where you started. That avoids all the web traps and creeping through tunnels trying to get to the living bridges.

Doing this at low levels

I did this with my 70 pally by shrouding to a rogue with out too much trouble. Then I tried it with my some of my low lvl chars, and found that I could do it. I have tried doing it as low as 10.

The thing you have to watch out for is that rouge invis does not have a very good chance of taking hold when you are at a very low level. You will have to keep hitting 'Hide' and 'Seek' until it works. There are 2 tests you should do to verify your invis:

1) The message after pressing 'seek' should say something about you walking like a cat. If you see something about a herd of elephants, try again.
2) Everything around you should con indifferent. If not, try again.

Some other specific problems that can arise from using a low level rogue:

1) You probably will not be fast enough to make it through the under water tunnels in the Ruins of Illsalin. I purchased a gill extract potion and used it while in the tunnel and no-one was looking (this will makes you appear). I found that getting my invis to work while under water was much more difficult. So just keep trying. It will take hold eventually.

2) You run very slow. Having SOW is a definite must. If SOW does fade, and you want to continue on without going back to PoK, then try side stepping. It seems to go a little faster when you do.

3) You die a lot. It is going to be harder. I died at least 5 times with each low level char, but do not loose hope. It is worth dieing to get the gem completely powered up.

Hope this stuff helps. GL

Something else that works with hide is this:
Clear your target so nothing is targeted. Next type this "/target NAME" where NAME is your name. If you are hidden, you will not be able to target yourself and you will get a failure message. Works for those non-rogues that are of a race that gets hide naturally.

I've noticed that some of the locations were not available so here they are:
The living bridges (+182, +722, +180)
Queen Sendal's Shrine (+40, _1192, +250)
Warren of the Conscripts (-307, +1339, -9.21)
Recluse Canyon (-1261, +498, +47)
The East Obelisk (-418, +482, +47)
The Reanimation Chamber (-543, +541, +54)

Also the Traps found in the zone are the webs covering the tunnels. I could not sense traps to find them, however they cast a snare that WILL drop your SoS unless you run through them quickly and do not stop near them.

Done this quest multiple times now for my many alts. I can't stress the Goblin/Rogue shroud enough. The Rogue invis rules all. And that coming from a necro who perhaps loves his FD a little too much. The only problems I had were in the Hive. My first time thru, I was killed 4 times. Once I knew how to get around though, I've had no problems since. I recommend getting Dead Man Floating and Spirit of Eagle/Spirit of Wolf for buffs. Dont bother with Temp/Virtue/Conviction because if you are spotted, you are gonna die, and die quick. Once you know the way around, you wont have any trouble and will be able to shoot thru the quest pretty quick with your alts. As for what charm to put this thing on, my necro uses the Tainted Heartstone, that charm that gets better the more languages you master (a great and inexpensive item for any caster). And it looks great on that thing.

Purchase a DoN charm.. These have 2 slots.. The LDoN aug, and the Slipgear aug are an ALL slot augment. Put both augments in your DoN charm, reap the added bonuses..

I cant comment if other ordinary charms such as the Intricate Wooden Figurine would yield better stats if maxed through progression and the Slipgear aug'd on it.. However as I am not Elemental flagged, I found the DoN charm and the LDoN & DoN aug give me very nice stats..

cheers

Cartographer Slipgear has asked you to visit some of the locations he has been hearing so
much about lately. Visit each location and return to him with notes on what you have found
and he has promised to reward you for your efforts.

Gallowglass Arena

Gallowglass, the Arena of Illsalin, once housed the greatest games in Darkhollow. Since the city's destruction however, the area has been flooded with putrid water and overgrown by jagged coral.

Battlemaster's Conclave

Here, the city's elite warriors gather to pay homage to the Battlemaster, the senior warrior of the Illsalin Legion.

Infested Water Caves

These tunnels once marked the underwater retreat of the shiliskin nobles. Now they are crawling with squirming witheran.

Statue of the Deep Ray

According to legend, there is a statue of an ancient ray creature that went extinct long before the Shiliskin Empire was formed. It is held somewhere in the fortress on the center isle of the Ruins on Illsalin.

Imperial Audience Chamber

The Emperor's Throne, flanked by the smaller thrones of his advisers, rises up from the floor of a flooded room.

Wallwatcher's Citadel

Wallwatcher's Citadel is the fortified area built into the Walls of Illsalin. These tunnels mark the site where the drachnid invaders first poured into Illsalin during the city's fall.

Recluse Canyon

An isolated canyon delves into the rock along the Hive. Drachnid warlocks gather there to hone their dark talents in seclusion.

The East Obelisk

Although drachnid are most at home in their naturally-grown chitin tunnels, they also erected two obelisks in an open canyon region within the Hive. These obelisks serve as audience chambers for non-drachnid guests, as well as the training grounds of the feared drachnid skinwalkers, spies who disguise themselves with magically enchanted skins of other races.

Warren of the Conscripts

As the Drachnids began their war against the shiliskin, Sendaii the Hive Queen soon learned that Deep Orc slaves made valuable allies once their shiliskin masters were out of the way. This chamber marks the home of the Deep Orcs that have chosen to join the drachnid ranks rather than die alongside their former shiliskin masters.

Queen Sendaii's Shrine

The drachnids erected this shrine of living chitin to pay homage to Sendaii, their leader and mistress.

The reanimation Chamber

The shiliskin are known to reanimate the drained bodies of their victims for use as guards and servants. This chamber marks the area where the unspeakable reanimation rituals are performed.

The Living Bridges

Here, nutrient-rich fluid flows between the main drachnid colony and the dandling outer cocoons. Thick porous bridges of chitin span the cliffs, tunneling the rivers of fluid toward the Queen.

Cartographer Slipgear has asked you to visit some of the locations he has been hearing so

and he has promised to reward you for your efforts.

The Living Isles

Giant mollusk-like creatures with impenetrable shells and incredibly slow metabolisms drift
near the base of Stone Root falls. Know as the Living Isles, their exposed backs are home
to some of the most dangerous wildlife in Darkhollow.

The Deeping Way Trade Route

The Deeping Way Trade Route consists of a network of bridges which crisscross one another along the precipitous Stone Root Falls. Less than one hundred years ago, it served as a bustling trade route of the Shiliskin Empire. Since the siege of Xill however, the trade
route has fallen into misuse and is regularly beset by drachnid raiders. Only the battle-hardened remnants of the Xillstart legion remain stalwart enough to patrol its length.

Versarin, the Fallen Outpost

Long ago, Versarin Outpost server as the Xill's first line of defense. Since the fall of Xill
however, the Outpost has fallen to ruin and neglect. The drachnids now use the hallowed out tower to practice their reanimation rituals on the corpses of shiliskin victims.

The Ruins of Xill

Xill was the first shiliskin city to fall to the drachnid invaders. Although the city has remained in ruins ever since, several members of the drachnid lower caste have since scuttled into the rubble to claim the area as their own.

The Coral Bog

Giant coral growths rise from the shallows south of Stone Root Falls. In these shallows, the
witheran gather to feed and spawn in the murky waters. During the flood season, the witheran gather in such numbers that the water itself appears to squirm with life.
