It worked for me delivering the Sealed Letter from Butcherblock's Orc Runner. I never saw an orc runner in Nektulos Forest.

Go bring Lork both Crushbone and Oggok dark elf hearts. Then you be hero.' Your faction standing with Craknek Warriors has been adjusted by 10. If you enter the tunnels through the bottom right tunnel, continue through until you reach the Shaman Guildmasters. Go to the right and you'll see about six Ogre merchants who sell Shaman spells. In that room there is another tunnel which will bring you to a room with about five different passages. In one of those passages waits the Dark Elf Ambassador. Kill him and loot his Black Heart. He also often drops a Dragoon Dirk. Beware faction here... for killing K`ryn, you lose faction with Indigo Brotherhood (but gain with Emerald Warriors and Steel Warriors). troll warrior helping out the crakneks... i was apprehensive from the get go to every npc in the foreign quarter and commons(had to do a bank run). uglan views me apprehensively too prolly due to my worship of innoruuk? anyways upon handing in the stein:

to make sure. Every time just the heart part. I got the Maul all three times (before flaming starts I know it's lore I destroyed it once before handing a new pair of hearts & gave it to some young ogres twice -- I didn't really need Maul). Don't think it's luck I'm not the luckiest person in EQ.

a lil note you can git the crude stein by killing bouncer hurd instead of doing the quest. i have killed him many times with my 48 druid i still git xp and sometimes he drops the stein. i must caution you he is very magic resistant,but he can still be killed. i pop in everynow and then to blow him up for fun. the stein is not dropped every time but drops frequently. hope i have helped anyone get the stein the easy way.

Just turned in the 2 hearts without having done anything else (and without having the Crude Stein) and i got the Gatorsmash Maul.
Guess i was very lucky, but it shows that is can be done.

Just FYI for all of you out there that think this item is JUST for enchanters. This is an amazing item for all classes. Me being a druid and a master of all tradeskills except jewelcraft (which I will be mastering for the Shawl Quest), I wish I would have had this item since I started all my trade skills. 15 Cha is nothing to shirk at, especially if it will put you past the limit break. Just remember: the higher your cha is the lower you buy stuff for and the higher you sell stuff for. I found a master jeweler today and had him make me 48 cha worth of items and then I remembered this item. DOLT!!!! Oh well, live and learn. :)

Can you kill the runner and turn in the letter if all you're interested in is the stein? Or do you have to do the part with the arm and broken stein first?

Why do the crude stein part? The only class who realy needes it id an enchanter, and they shouldn't TRY to ruin indago brotherhood faction. Of course, you can regain faction in obvious ways, so you CAN, but it just takes more work.

Umm... trying to find Krynn or whatever.. the other DE in ogguk... there's an empty room in the chambers and I'm guessing that's where he spawns. Anyone have an idea of his spawn time/table? They dont like me much there unless I'm invis and a wolf, so hanging around there isn't exactly something I want to do. Second thing, do you need a specific faction to get the GSM? or will indiffernt work?

Very doubtful -- seeing that Lork is an ogre and you would be KOS to him. I would say get a good group together and kill a bouncer or two. To be safe, you might want to get a few more levels.
