Easy quest. Finished 23 Aug 2003.
1) Brick of crude iron ore: Kill Gnolls in and around Blackburrow. All but pups and scouts droped it for me. Orcs in EC also drop it and you probablly can buy lots from vendors.
2) Gnoll Backbone: Scrawny Gnolls, Gnolls, and Patrolling Gnolls droped them for me. Also seem to be easy to buy from vendors.
3) Gnoll Scoutsman documents: Drop from gnoll scouts in Qeynos hills. Usually you can find them for sale on vendors too.
4) Throwing Spear: Buy it from weapons vendors. Got mine in Qeynos North I think but can't remember exactly where.

There have been a number of young bards entering our concert halls lately seeking guidance. If you are a [young bard in search of training], I might have some work for you.' You say, 'i am a young bard in search of training' Sollari Bekines says 'You need to look no further then, I can surely provide you with the knowledge you will need to make it in this world as a songweaver. The exercises that you will need to complete will test your gathering and fighting skills. Once you have completed your training you will be outfitted with a suit of your very own armor! I spent a number of hours, today, fighting down in the Pit, in BB. I was hunting Guardsmen, mostly. I now have a stack of 10 of these. I'm a lvl 11 bard, but I'm a Vah Shir, and it doesn't list that I can use this armor, on here. They are around. Just ask for them, in the zone. /shrug Hope that helps. Try da Guardsmen.

Not only has it been fixed but several vendors in Qeynos carry the scoutsman documents and they seem to have a drop rate of 75% or higher off gnoll scouts. I got my bracers within 30 minutes of starting the quest and atleast 20 of those minutes was spent getting the ore.

Throwing spears can be purchased from a vendor in Nesiff's Wooden Weapons. I believe they run about 5gp each. This store is in the same square as the Qeynos clock tower which gnomes (like myself) so kindly donated to the fair city.
FINALLY some information I can use... I remember when they used to drop all the time off of skeles and lesser gnolls...been searching for three days looking for one and killed WAY too much crap.

They have dropped off of a knight of thunder that conned black to my level 11 bard, however he hits hard. Try getting a higher level to kill him for u so you don't take massive faction hits, most necros and shadowknights don't mind.

After 7 1/2 hours spent slaughtering every Gnoll Scout I could find, and gaining the help of a high level cleric and druid (they were waiting for Hadden to spawn and offered to join me after he popped) I haven’t seen a single “Gnoll Scoutsman’s Documents.” I petitioned and was told by the Guide (who was very polite I mind you) that he was unable to tell me anything about the item, but that he would submit it in his bug report. I was advised to submit a bug report of my own and wished good luck.
The following evening I tried for another two hours to find the documents, but I simply give up. If it is supposed to be this difficult, that’s just stupid. It’s a low-level quest, not an Epic. This took place on the Cazic-Thule server, July 14-15.
This quest is broken or near impossible. I just wish I knew which.

Not sure if this has made it to the live servers yet, but the Gnoll Scoutsman Documents are now dropping on the Test server. I looted one off a gnoll scout in Qeynos Hills. They're NOT lore and NOT no drop. They look like a half page.
The stats of the Wind Spirits Bracer are 4ac, 3dex, and 1cha. Not too shabby.

FYI, this post is most likely bull. The stats on the boots aren't that good. Pro'lly everyone knew "anon" of test server :) was goofin', but I just like to talk.

Sorry to burst your bubble, cool breeze, but it's true. Log on to the test server and send a tell to Dalshon, my level 7 bard. Obviously I can't show you the bracer in a trade window due to its being no drop, but a quick visual will reveal a bright mint-green plate bracer - and a quick inspection will reveal, ta daaaa, a Wind Spirits Bracer. I will state again that this is ONLY on the Test server; my bard on my main server has not attempted to finish the bracer quest. (Off topic, I really dig the new UI...)
The stats are as described, 4ac 3dex 1cha. Pretty good for a newbie bracer - and it looks a helluva lot better than lambent, IMO.

Bricks drop of various gnolls in BB. You could also find them for sale in vendor right next to guild hall
Bricks also drop off gnolls outside BB entrance, gnoll watchers as well.

I started this quest as a lvl 5 bard and am now a lvl 10 bard through all of this time I have not found ONE gnoll scout document and am &!$$#@

Ive looked for the gnoll scoutsmans documents and have had no luck what so ever. I even tried asking a Guide if the document dropped and they cant tell me well I think thats bs since no one has found the document. I know they are bound by rules though but i think they need to rethink this quest or do a patch and update it so the document drops. I would like a full set of wind spirits since i dont really like what the freeport version adds. If anyone finds the document send Musicca a tell on the vazaelle server.

I was attacked by scoutsman yesterday when I accidentally pulled the commander and every other frigging gnoll. Can you say TRAIN!!! He spawns, dont know how, but he was wacking on me. Now that I'm aware of the quest, I could just throw myself in front of the next Gnoll Train...LOL.

Which commander spawn are you talking about? The green room or the split room by the door?

I accidentally pulled the commander in the split room, but didnt see where the scoutsman came from (cause there were so many gnolls on me at the time), so not sure how to get him to spawn, I just know that he jumped in on one of my MANY spectacular trains.
The only person that will combine the 3 research pages that the gnoll scouts drop is involved with the INT casters quest.

Just wondering if anyone has come accross an NPC that perhaps will combine all 3 research pages into the 'gnoll scoutsmans documents' which we all need. I mean, comon.. bracers and helms are IMO the easiest pieces of all of the armor quests, so making us bards spend FOREVER waiting on something that rarely drops, if it even exists as a drop, TWICE, seems beyond me. I think we all need to go back to talking to NPC's...

Qeynos focus more on the Dex aspect where Freeport focus's on charisma aspect. I did the same takes very little time to do the bracers in Freeport.
Yup I tried the watcher. But typically the item you need drops off something with that kind of name in the phrase. At least that is how it has worked for the DE Cleric, Rogue and Wiz,Ench quests I have done. As well the SFG Ranger Quest. I have also done hehe.

As far as I know the bracers are broken. I have tried to combine the Assorted Research Documents from Gnoll Scouts. Pages 1, 2 and 3. Nothing. In different combinations as well. The Scoutsman inside Blackburrow drops Battle Plans. These do not work as well. Neither do they work if you put the Battle Plans along with the research pages. Single or combined.
There is no "Gnoll Scoutsman" NPC. Just scouts and the human Scoutsman Milya (sp) in blackburrow.

Have you tried the gnoll watchers to see if they drop it, just a thought. I haven't even found a throwign spear yet. From what I can tell these qeynos quest weren't though out well. My friend who playes a necro is having one hell of a time finding gaint and large king snakes, and when he does find them they rarely drop skins. As far as finding spiderling silks the safest place for necro(and other evil qeynos people) is in the sewers where you can find sludge spiderlings(I think that's thier names), for the other classes that need silk threads I would go to Everfrost and kill woolly spiderlings. Heh well that's all I have to say I kind of rambled on.

Throwing spears can be found for about four or five silver around South Qeynos... Right near the pond and the clock, there's a shop to go into and the guy should sell you one.
