Okay went to take a look myself.
The NPC is called "the Court Chronicler"
He sells many books, but does not respond to any sort of hail normally.
So I can only surmise a) the quest was removed or b) there is some trigger phrase or quest needed to be done before to get him to do the right dialogue even if "What lost book of scale" is asked.

Ask the guy who sells books in the monk guild, 'What lost book of the scale?' He will say some stuff about the lost records of talon and his life, and give you the book of scale. Here is the part about the shackle sash and shuriken: "...ripping the shackle from his wrist, Talon gave it to Kiraikuei, telling him he must return it to the courtyard at any costs, including his life...Talon removed a small knife, and began to cut away the sash from his waist, letting his robe become loose, turning to Kiraikuei, Talon placed the chords of soild power around Kiraikuei...Talon fell to the ground, feeling his life draining slowly. He scrounged through his tattered belt pounches, and removed a Shuriken of imense power. Using his last bit of strength, he thrusted the Shuriken deep into a diamond, and told Kiraikuei to bring it to the ones who guarded the gates of the peaks...
A Cracked Diamond sometimes drops off the ancient wyvern in Skyfire. I am told that if you have a jeweler (skill of at least 200) combine that and 3 bars of galvanized platinum you will get the Shuriken. Well, I got curious and wanted to read the book for myself. None of the NPCs in the Monk guild respond to the triggerline.
So either I'm a tard, or the quest has been totally removed from the game.

This quest no longer exists, if in fact it ever did. Likely it's the same as the shackle of scale, a quest that has been removed but which still has reference to it, and still has items involved in the quest dropping.

So the are 3 Iksar Monk "Epic" Peices? The Sash, Shurkin, And Bracer? Wonder if the same can be said for SK's, Shamans, ect...

Shaman get 3 pieces...boots, a shield and finally the spear.
I'm pretty sure Pallys get em too, never played one but, i think they have they fiery defender and avenger and ghoulbane (not in order hehe). I dunno about ghoulbane since it can be dropped by the king in upper guk.

Posted: Dec 22 2001 at 8:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i think that with the diamond u fill it with magical substance using blacksmithing skill to get a weapon, not a jewler, a shuruken is a weapon not a piece of jewlery, a enchie could enchant the metal first though.
As you can see the text clearly says it has not been solved. Perhaps you need the shuriken off the kirakuei in Hate and combine it with the cracked diamond then give it to an NPC in Sky Fire Mountains near the VP entrance or perhaps inside VP

ok for part of the paladin epic u have to kill vox and nagafin to get 2halves of a book. then u go to a guy in freeport and give him the 2 halves and 1kpp and he gives u back the book. the book is called the book of scale and up top it says after u ask the guy "what lost book of the scale" he gives u the book of scale... just something that i caught that i thought was interesting. guess its just me having wishfull thinking, hehe.

Had a friend who had some and still has that he keeps in bank. If you think Verant would allow something that powerful, then they should put back Rod of Annihilation(sp) for casters. 60dmg 40dly and some stats. I think that Verant shouldn't get peoples hopes up on getting items then nerfing them. Just my 2cp.
Seems like the only use for such a thing would be TOT or BOTB, where your character is copied to test, assuming they don't bother to do a move rather than a copy.

actually they do drop still, in the plane of hate, off the mummies. got one the other night and used it to pull maestro. too bad i wasted it as it didnt even hit him =P

Maybe you could combine that shuriken from Hate and the cracked diamond from skyfire. What youd combine it in I wouldn't have any idea about.

its a 100 damage 20 delay 200 range monk only throwing weapon that drops from kiras in hate plane... so that means one throw and its gone but i clicked in on the ancient cyclops for 400 damage in one shot.... hehe take that wizzard KSer's

quest has been disabled since beta. Only one active was shackle of scale until month after release. odd

I would say this needing of a jeweler is correct. As a jeweler would melt the metal into the diamond, thus creating the shuriken from the "mold" as it were...

if you read the small passage, it says he thrust the shuriken into the diamond, which means it should be immensely strong, and i would have to agree with the first post regarding the metal and molding into the diamond

Well getting the cracked diamond off of the ancient Wyvern makes sense since the passage talks about Kiraikuei being told to give the diamond with the shirken in it to the ones who guard the gates of the peak... as in the gateway to Veeshan's peak which is in Skyfire. My guess is something there either drops the shirken part or leads to more clues to were it drops. doubt you have to use jewelery skill..
