Garret Zethkog says 'Hail Bertoxslaav! I am Garret Zethkog, first Shadowknight of the Dark Reflection. Long ago I made the journey far to the west to the human city of Qeynos. In the catacombs of the Bloodsabres, human disciples of the Plague Lord, Bertoxxulous, I studied the ways of the Shadowknight. I have returned to Ak'Anon with this knowledge and now tutor young gnomes that have [heard the calling] of the Dark Reflection in the ways of a Dark Knight of Bertoxxulous.' You say, 'I have heard the calling' Garret Zethkog says 'Bertoxxulous has gifted his faithful with the sight of the Dark Reflection, the ability to recognize the power of disease and decay and its importance as a catalyst of change and progress. We Shadowknights of the Dark Reflection are the champions of the Plague Bringer. It is our duty to embrace our gifts and use them to act as the agents of Bertoxxulous, doing his bidding unquestioningly. There are many however who oppose the Plague Lord and his servants. They do not understand the importance of our existence and we must [defend ourselves] against these foes lest they would have us destroyed.' You say, 'how do we defend ourselves?' Garret Zethkog says 'Every young Knight of the Dark Reflection must first learn the basics of combat and acquire a suit of armor to help turn aside the weapons of our enemies. Take this parchment to my sister Mimtia Zethkog and she will assist you in acquiring a set of suitable armor for a young shadownknight. Once you have been suitably outfitted return to me and I will instruct you on your [next task].' Mimtia Zethkog says 'Hail Bertoxslaav! You must be one of Garret's new knights. Garret has asked me to help get you outfitted in a suit of armor to protect you from the weapons of our foes. I have assembled a kit for you that will allow you to construct the armor pieces once you have gathered the necessary components. The required components vary according to which piece of Plague Knight Armor you are planning on assembling. Do you wish to craft a [plague knight helm], a [plague knight bracer], [plague knight gauntlets], [plague knight boots], [plague knight vambraces], [plague knight greaves], or a [plague knight breastplate].' You say, 'I wish to craft Plague knight gauntlets' Mimtia Zethkog says 'To assemble Plague Knight Gauntlets you will need to obtain two bricks of crude bronze and smelt them in a forge with a Water Flask and this crude Gauntlet Mold. Once that is done combine the Crude Bronze Gauntlets with a Ruined Cat Pelt and two Clockwork Rat Back Plates in the Mail Assembly Kit.' | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The backplates, and I assume the bellyplates also, do drop off the obsolete models in the bottom of Ak'Annon. It doesn't do anything to your faction. It's the same faction hit as killing the rogue clockworks. Also you have the chance to run into Red V, you know the one they are all talking about. He's a bit chumpy though.
Well, I have spent hours and hours killing Obsolete Rats in the Mines and have yet to see a backplate drop from one of them. Many Leg sections, but no backplates, and I need 2 of those to make the gauntlets. There must be a better way. Very frustrating.

Aree these dropped or merchant? I haven't seen at the merchants inside, but still feeling my way around in there..
Bricks of crude bronze drop from Kobolds out in Steamfont. Or if you really want to make the trip you can also get them from Orcs in Crushbone or Goblins in Butcherblock.

I hunted near the mills for a while and acquired all I needed for the helm, bracers, and guantlets. However haven't seen a single belly plate for the boots yet. Is there another area where they drop?

clockwork rat back plates (and belly plates for boots) are rare off the rogue cleaners, the leg section for bracer seems to be much more common.
