Johanius Stake of Slaying  

We just completed the quest on the Fippy Darkpaw Progression server on July 17, 2012. It varied a bit from the previous posts, so I thought I'd update it. First off we waited for the mob to spawn at the loc listed in the previous posts. He never showed. The druid was scanning track and saw Johanios' name. He was short distance away standing next to a tree at neg 150, pos 1430. Minimum faction is required to initiate the quest, and he will say, "You are a brave individual but unfortunately I cannot trust that you will use what I have to offer to its fullest potential against the foes of Katta Castellum. Perhaps when you have established a stronger reputation as a vampyre slayer I will aid you further." As a high elf cleric, I was able to initiate the quest conning amible to Johanius despite having killed no more vampyres than the ogre who tried unsucessfully(the ogre conned dubious). We followed him along his route to the vampire camp with three buildings. This is the only camp that gives a positive faction hit for Johanius. He stopped some distance away and just stood there. Since we had cleared the camp prior to initiating the quest, we had to wait for repops. Once the camp was fully repopulated, we killed all the mobs in under four minutes. The dialogs from the two women occured as previously stated, but we never physically saw them, and they never appeared on tracking. So don't waste your time looking for someone to hail. Johanius then makes the trip back. This time he went the location just left of the entrance to Katta as previously described. He would not give the ogre any kind of stake previously repeating the text quoted above. He gave the remaining group members a Blood Crusted Stake. The cleric gave him back the Blood Crusted Stake and received the Johanius Stake of Slaying, and then he despawned. We plan to check back and see if we can turn in another blood crusted stake for the Johanius Stake of Slaying without having to repeat the entire quest once he respawns.

When we checked back 3 hours later Johanius had respawned in the spot next to the guard. I've noticed that the two guards there do not automatically path back to their spots if they move away in pursuit of a mob. So I'm guessing his strange location may be for a similar reason. Tried handing in a Blood Crusted Stake, and he return it saying, "I have no use for this item."

We ran the quest a second time. This time the two ladies in question did spawn in the building with the single Coterie Centurian as previously described. After all the mobs were killed Johanius made his "best save our sentiments" comment and he headed back to Katta alone. I'm guessing the ladies just despawned.

Despite the variations we described, the quest remains intact and easy to do. Getting Johanius Stake of Slaying is very helpful when killing the final mob vampyre in the Vampyre Trouble quest who cons dark blue to level 65s.

I did this quest with a paladin (64) and a shaman (52) very easily. After initiating the quest we went straight to the Coterie Camp (#3 on EQAtlas) and proceeded to eliminate all the vampyres. We camped behind the buildings against the wall and got no other wandering mobs. The only problem, however, is that you cannot see into the buildings and therefore do not know exactly how many vampyres there are. We could see what looked like a woman NPC in one of the buildings. However, after killing all the vampyres we noticed that she was gone and we thought she had de-spawned. However when we went back to the Gates of Katta Castellum the NPC was back there (His name changed to "Slayer") and we said the words, 'I am the most fearless vampyre slayer' and we both got the quest piece. It was a no drop item and paladins are unable to use it.

In sum, start the quest, run to camp 3, kill all the vamps, run back to the NPC at the gates of Katta Castellum, say, 'I am the most fearless vampyre slayer' and get the piece.

Did the Quest twice today for my Ranger and a friends monk (monk with piercer is funny)
This bloke is on a timer approx 4 hours and spawns a very short distance south of the Coterie camp with 3 buildings. Kill Coteries then when he gets the girls run to Katta and meet him there

I saw Johanius today standing right in front of the Katta entrance in TM, near the two guards. I hailed him and he walked me over. Seems to be working.

every time i find him he is at the 3rd building, and each time i go get the reward he goes away.. am i supposed to get some item from him before i masacre the vamps?

hehe guess Alla is a bit busy what with all the updates and the holidays upon us, but he got the link up and fixed the "Starts With" (although I was flattered being listed as the starting NPC hehe)
