Laurion's Song Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

Prerequisite Task: Partisan of The Hero's Forge

You can obtain this solo task from Elmara Emberclaw in Hero’s Forge. You can find Elmara at /waypoint 541, -1296, 328, near the Laurion Inn door. She is on the find tool as well CTRL F.

You say, 'Hail, Elmara Emberclaw'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'I want to apologize again for the way I behaved. I'm not happy that you read my private journal, but that's no excuse for me to hiss at you. I was thinking about the situation while you were gone, and I realized that I snapped because I don't like to [let people in]'

You say, 'You don't like to let people in?'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'Literally and figuratively. I was wary about letting you into my forge. Letting you in on my past is a hundred times harder. It's tough for me to let new people into my life because... I guess I'm [afraid]. I don't want to get close to people and lose them the way I did with Kasha. Letting people in means opening yourself up to pain.'

You say, 'Are you still afraid?'

Elmara Emberclaw nods. 'Petrified. But isolating myself is no way to live. Connecting with others opens ourselves up to being hurt, but it also opens our hearts to friendship, laughter, and love. So, would you like to [learn] more about me? It's been an awfully long time since I've had a friend.' Her body is tense, but her eyes are hopeful.

You say, 'I want to learn more.'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'All right. I'll make you a deal. I forged a special trinket a while ago, but I don't have a need for it. I want to give it to someone who can use it, but I also want to make sure they understand its value. If you complete a few tasks while I tell you my story, I'll gift you the item. Now tell me, friend, would you like to hear the story of how I [lost] myself, or how I [found] myself?'

You say, 'Tell me how you lost yourself.'

You have been assigned the task 'Lost in the Past'.

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'You're a seasoned adventurer, Gebb, so maybe you can [relate] to having lost something. Maybe you've lost someone or something that was important to you. Maybe you've lost something intangible, like hope during a difficult time, or rationality in the midst of battle.'

Long ago, Elmara Emberclaw forged a magical item that is incredibly special to her. She hasn't had a use for it, so she'd like to give it to someone who will benefit from its power, however, she also wants to ensure that person understands the value of the trinket, Elmara wants you to learn about loss, and if she feels that you understand the significance of why she crafted the item, she offers to give it to you.

1. Speak with Elmara Emberclaw 0/1 The Hero's Forge

You say, 'Tell me how you found yourself.'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'In the aftermath of losing Kasha, plus the difficulties of my party's journey, I struggled for years with self-worth. I wanted to find Kasha, to keep my companions' spirits high, and to save all those who needed our help. In essence, I wanted to be the perfect hero. Those are noble goals, but they aren't [healthy].'

You say, 'I can relate.'

Elmara Emberclaw gives a sympathetic nod. 'Whatever the reason, losing a piece of yourself is scary. You lose sight of the person you want to be and cling to emotions like confusion, despair, or anger. You embrace anything that makes you feel something -- anything that fills the [void] left within you.

You say, 'Why aren't they healthy?'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'People tend to operate under an illusion that we control more about our lives than we really do, and that if we do all the 'right' things, we'll get what we want. Well, I could search for Kasha forever, or train every hour of every day, and I still wouldn't be the hero I aspired to. I did all the 'right' things over and over, but I didn't find my sister. I couldn't save everyone. My mind became clouded by intrusive thoughts that told me I must be [broken].'

You say, 'How do you overcome the void?'

Elmara Emberclaw frowns. 'It's not easy. I felt incredible loss after failing to find Kasha. The feeling grew as my companions and I saw no end to the evil in the world. We had our share of failures, though my friends don't admit it.' She side-eyes the door that leads to Laurion Inn. 'The feeling of loss became helplessness, then swelled into a consuming [rage]. It ended in bitter resentment at everything. The world, the gods, my party, myself.'

You say, 'How did you stop feeling broken?'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'I started seeing the world as it is, not as I wanted it to be. I learned to be proud of myself for the actions I took, not for the outcomes outside my control. Now, I do things without expecting the world will give me anything in return. It's impossible for me to save everyone who's suffering, but I'm proud knowing that I'm doing my best with what I have here at the Hero's Forge. So, Gebb, it's time for you [to do] the same! You're going to do something difficult, and you're going to do it knowing that there are no accolades waiting on the other side. No gold, no thanks, no trophy. I want you to see the value in doing things selflessly. I hope you, like myself, find value in this.'

You say, 'Can one overcome the rage?'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'I'm glad you asked. That'll relate to the tasks I have for you. Anger is a secondary emotion. It stems from uncomfortable feelings like fear, inadequacy, or disappointment. It deflects what you don't want to address within yourself onto outward scapegoats to blame your problems on. You start to feel like others are not acting the way you believe they should, and thus [resentment] flourishes.'

You say, 'What do you want me to do?'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'You'll start by helping bring a new phoenix into this world. When one burns out, their ashes reform into an egg. I happen to have one. Like any other bird, hatching one requires a nest, but the eggs are too hot for anything built from twigs or straw. You'll need to collect stones as they are good conductors of heat. You've surely encountered the rockborn golems that live on the mountain here; please defeat five and bring back the stones you collect from them.'

You say, 'So you're going to teach me to avoid resentment?'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'I want you to practice using a strategy I've found successful: recognize anger, identify the primary emotion, address the uncomfortable feeling. You're going to do this by helping settle anger all over our realm. The first instance is right here in the Hero's Forge. A [bard] spends his time in the hut by the lake and is frequently in a huff. Please go pay him a visit and help. Remember: Recognize, identify, address.'

You say, 'I'll visit the bard.'

2. Visit Emrick Flintkarst 0/1 The Hero's Forge

Emrick Flintkarst can be found in a fishing hut along the lake at /way -284, -583, -9. He is on the find tool CTRL F.

You say, 'Hail, Emrick Flintkarst'

Emrick Flintkarst bellows in frustration. He looks ready to snap the lute in half before he realizes you're standing there. 'What're ye doin' here!? Get lost! I don't recall givin' ye a free ticket to [see] the show.'

You say, 'I wanted to see how you're doing.'

Emrick Flintkarst says, 'Is that so? It seems to me like yer buttin' yer head into something that's not any o' yer business. I'm too busy practicin' to waste time chattin' with ye.' He holds the lute like he's about to play, but groans instead. 'Ye've ruined my focus! That song I was writin' could have been perfect if ye hadn't come 'n' interrupted me. I'll never write a great song when I'm constantly [bothered] by annoyances such as yerself.'

You say, 'You seem bothered.'

Emrick Flintkarst's eyes practically bulge out of his head. 'Well, aren't ye smart? Yes, to say the absolute LEAST, I'm bothered. Ye and everyone else make me so [angry] that I'm seconds away from settin' this lute on fire 'n' givin' up on these stupid musical aspirations. It's so easy for all those other bards; they're born with the talent. I, on the other hand, work hard every day but get interrupted by pests like yerself. I can never be great when the world is workin' against me like this.

You say, 'I think you feel something besides angry.'

Emrick Flintkarst scoffs. 'Who de ye think ye are? My ma? Fine, I'll humor ye. If I'm not angry, then what am I feelin'?'

3. Discover what Emrick is feeling 0/1 The Hero's Forge

You say, 'Envy'

Emrick Flintkarst's brow furrows. He stares daggers at you, but seems to be earnestly thinking about what you said. 'All right. I guess ye got me there. It's just not fair that everyone else is naturally [talented] while I struggle so much! Maybe I'd feel better if I had people in my life who supported my dreams of bein' a bard. My friends all laugh at me 'n' my parents are disappointed I wasn't a miner like them. '

4. Find a way to address Emrick's jealousy 0/1 The Hero's Forge

You say, 'You have to work hard to become talented. It sounds like you're just making excuses.'

Emrick Flintkarst goes back to shouting. 'That's easy for ye to say when ye aren't in my position! I sit by this stupid lake every day, practicin' my tunes fer no one but the fish. Other bards are writin' a dozen songs a week, but I've never been happy with a single one I've written. I don't understand what they've got that I don't? I've been waitin' 'n' waitin' for inspiration to strike, but it never happens. What am I [missing]?'

You say, 'You're missing a muse.'

Emrick Flintkarst says, 'A muse?' He nods, eyes wide with realization. 'Aye! A muse! Someone beautiful, or smart, or strong. All three if I'm lucky. But where could I find someone [like that]?'

You say, 'I'm like that.'

You have been given: Emrick's Empty Notebook

IMPORTANT: Make sure to equip this notebook to evolve it. It will take around 400 kills in LS to evolve it fully. Let us know if it only evolves from certain mobs.

Emrick Flintkarst looks you up and down. 'Eh... two out of three ain't bad, I s'pose. I'll take ye up on yer offer! Ye seem like the adventurin' type, so I need ye to tell me all about the interestin' things ye come across on yer travels. I need ye to be accurate, too. I won't be one o' those bards singin' fake stories 'bout heroes killin' dragons with their arms tied behind their back while ridin' a unicorn fartin' rainbows.' He produces an empty notebook and hands it to you. 'Carry that 'round with ye and fill it with all yer interestin' stories. Don't even think 'bout comin' back 'til every page is full. I need as much material as I can get.'

5. Deliver 1 Emrick's Filled Notebook to Emrick Flinkkarst 0/1 The Hero's Forge

6. Speak with Elmara Emberclaw 0/1 The Hero's Forge

You say, 'Hail, Elmara Emberclaw'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'How did things go with Emrick?' She listens as you explain what happened. 'Excellent job, Gebb. It's been a long time since I've seen Emrick excited about anything. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun stories to put in that notebook he gave you. In fact, you can write about the next task! This time, I'd like you to visit a young woman named Nilara in Timorous Falls. You'll find her at Eureka's Tumble. She's quite troubled and could probably use a friend like you.'

7. Visit Nilara Ashrune 0/1 Timorous Falls

Nilara Ashrune is in the Eureka's Tumble building which is in the far south part of the zone. She is out on the deck at /way -2610, -1568, -64 and is on the find tool CTRL F.

You say, 'Hail, Nilara Ashrune'

Nilara Ashrune can barely stand straight. 'I don't wanna... don't wanna leave. I'm not too drunk, mmmkay?' Her words slur together. 'Maddie's lucky I even come to... to this....' Nilara seems to lose her train of thought mid-sentence. 'Waitasec, who're you?' She squints at you, then jabs a finger into your chest. 'Whaddaya [think] about buyin' us 'nother round?' Her question is punctuated with a hiccup.

8. Discover what Nilara is feeling 0/1 Timorous Falls

You say, 'I think you've had enough.'

Nilara Ashrune groans and rolls her eyes. 'Drinkin's what Eureka's Tumble is for, isinnit? Why'dya come 'ere if all you're gonna do is tell people to stop drinkin'? Are ya gonna tell the paladins to--' She hiccups. 'To lock me up? The only person who should be arrested is the [chef] o' this place.'

You say, 'What did the chef do?'

Nilara Ashrune says, 'That two-bit chef couldn't make a good stew if one were dumped o'er their head. Dun'even get me started about the bread 'n' pies 'n' salads 'n' cheeses 'n' -- you get the picture. Someone oughta tell Maddie to stick to sellin' drinks. Someone other'n me, 'cause I've told 'er 'boutta million... no, a billion times.' She snorts. 'I've been kicked out o'er the comments I made 'bout the food. That so-called chef can't handle cri--' She hiccups. 'Criticism. Still, guess I'd rather be here than [home].''

You say, 'What's at home?'

Nilara Ashrune says, 'Nothin'. Jus' me, four walls, a floor, 'n' a roof. Yup... jus' me....' She steadies herself enough to look you in the eyes. She seems upset. 'Why're ya even askin'? Doesn't matter why I'm here or there, mmmkay? I'm a payin' customer 'n' I'll stay as long as I like. You need'ta gimme another drink or get outta my sight 'fore I get [angry].''

You say, 'I believe you feel something besides angry.'

Nilara Ashrune guffaws. 'D'ya think you're a mind reader or somethin'? And ya think I'm the drunk one? If'ya think yer so smart, go 'head tell me what I'm feelin'. Otherwise, go kick rocks, kid.' She smirks, clearly expecting the conversation to be over.

You say, 'lonely'

Nilara Ashrune she stumbles backward and seems quite affected by what you said. Her fists clench and she glares at you. ''Kay, I've heard 'nough outta ya. I ain't drunk enough t'deal with yer foolishn... foolishnish.' On the contrary, she's too drunk to deal with a conversation. Perhaps a cup of water from Timorous Falls will help her sober up. There's sure to be one on the tables nearby.

9. Find Nilara a cup of Timorous Falls water 0/1 Timorous Falls

You can find Cup of Timorous Falls Water on a table not far from Nilara back inside the bar area, near a couple a wizened sots, near the window at /way -2559, -1470, -58.

You have been given: Cup of Timorous Falls Water

10. Deliver 1 Cup of Timorous Falls Water to Nilara Ashrune 0/1 Timorous Falls

You offered 1 Cup of Timorous Falls Water to Nilara Ashrune.

Nilara Ashrune grabs the cup and takes a big swig. Then, she sputters and says, 'Whaddya give me!? I asked ya for ale, not water!' She looks at the cup and begrudgingly says, 'Aw'right, maybe ya... maybe ya 'ave a point. The world's spinnin' a liiittle too fast for my likin' and I don'wanna trip o'er this railing.' She begins sipping the [water] and seems to steady herself.

11. Discuss Nilara's loneliness 0/1 Timorous Falls

You say, 'Now that you've had some water, let's talk about why you feel lonely.'

Nilara Ashrune rolls her eyes. 'Didn't expect I'd be gettin' free therapy from a stranger. Aw'right, yeah, I feel a li'l lonely these days. It's my husband's fault. The idiot jus' had to go out with a merchant caravan when I tol' him it was a bad idea. Travelin's jus' too dangerous these days. That dung-fer-brains just... just went 'n'... got 'imself killed. He jus'....' Tears begin welling in her eyes. 'Why didn't he listen to me?' She hiccups and tears begin streaming down her face. 'Why'd my [husband] have'ta die like that? The last conversation we had was just me beggin' 'im not to go.'

You say, 'Tell me about your husband.'

Nilara Ashrune sniffles. 'He wasn't actually dumb. He was thoughtful 'n' sweet. I felt like the luckiest woman in the world with him.' She has to pause, attempting to speak between sobs. 'Our home was always filled with so much laughter 'n' light. Don't even get me started on what an amazing cook he was. And now... I don't even... I can't even... I'll never taste that food again. Not the way he makes it.' She sobs again. 'There's no light or laughter left in that home. Jus' me 'n' my thoughts. Here, I'm surrounded by folks. The ale helps me [forget] about how lost I am without 'im.'

You say, 'Forgetting is not the solution. I believe it's time you address your grief.'

Nilara Ashrune says, 'Yeah... you're right. This helped a lot, actually. Maybe it's time to lay off the drinks 'n' actually have a decent conversation with someone. I felt like I was alone in a room full o' people, but I'm ready to reach out for support. I don't think I even got your name, but thank ya. I won't forget this.'

12. Speak with Elmara Emberclaw 0/1 The Hero's Forge

You say, 'Hail, Elmara Emberclaw'

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'I'm so happy you could help Nilara. Although she's only a memory, I'd like to think that somehow she really felt the impact you made. After speaking to her in the memory, I was heartbroken that I hadn't reached out when I saw her in person. I hope she found peace rather than be consumed by her misplaced anger. So far, you've helped someone dealing with fear that they're inadequate, and someone struggling with loneliness and despair. I've got just one more person I'd like you to meet. He's a hunter by the name of Vyndale Manna. Once again, he is just a memory of a person I wish I'd helped when we met. You'll find him somewhere in the Unkempt Woods. Good luck!'

13. Visit Vyndale Manna 0/1 Unkempt Woods

Vyndale Manna can be found not far from the zone in, to the south around the first pillar you come across at /way 1768, -3044, -320. He is on the find tool CTRL F.

You say, 'Hail, Vyndale Manna'

Vyndale Manna looks at you coldly and shoos you away. 'If you're here to hire my [services], you're out of luck. Go bloody your own hands.'

You say, 'What services do you provide?'

Vyndale Manna narrows his eyes. 'Who are you, even? Another rich [merchant] come to get even richer off the backs of desperate people? A greedy rat who cares not for the nature around us? If you need a skilled hunter, look elsewhere. I don't work for filth like you.'

You say, 'I'm not a merchant. Or a rat. Or filth.'

Vyndale Manna looks you up and down. 'I suppose you look more like an adventurer than anything else. You truly haven't heard of me? Vyndale the Unrivaled? The Slayer of Nature? The Emerald Hunter? I suppose I'm happy that my infamy does not precede me. You seem to be a capable fighter and a reasonable person, so I ask for your help in exacting revenge upon evil in this region. My hands are already stained with blood, but I have a final [debt] to settle.'

You say, 'What kind of debt?'

Vyndale Manna says, 'The debt that the greedy rats and filth owe to this land and Tunare. The Rallosian devils and their mangy pack of worgs. They trample through this forest, destroying the plants, and murdering the animals. And for what? To add more land to their empire? To suck all of our resources dry in the name of their insane god? They are madness, greed, and gluttony personified. They will pay back their debt with their [lives], and the grass will regrow with the nourishment from their blood.'

You say, 'You're certain that taking their lives will sate your fury?'

Vyndale Manna says, 'It's the only thing that will. Go and help me in this task. I want you to kill at least ten of those scourges to our forest. I want them to experience what loss feels like.'

14. Kill 10 Rallosians 0/10 Unkempt Woods

You can find a big camp of Rallosians in the northwest corner of the zone.

15. Discover what Vyndale is feeling 0/1 Unkempt Woods

You say, 'Hail, Vyndale Manna'

Vyndale Manna says, 'You've done an admirable job, but it's not enough. It will never be enough until every Rallosian is dead. I want to [see] their bodies piled high and I want that pile burned. I want the light of that fire to illuminate our celebration in honor of wiping this disgusting evil from the face of Norrath.'

You say, 'Why do you want to see that so badly?'

Vyndale Manna says, 'I saw all of their evils firsthand when I was in their camp. Yes, I was there. I had no choice! I needed to cooperate... even if it meant hunting creatures in this forest to near-extinction.' He yells in anguish. 'There was nothing I could do! And now they'll pay for the atrocities they made me commit. Only their deaths can quell my [anger].'

You say, 'I think you're feeling more than just anger.'

Vyndale Manna says, 'Then you're more weak-minded than I thought. If you think I feel anything other than burning, unbridled rage, you'd be mistaken. It's the only thing they deserve. For me to feel anything else would be weakness. What other emotion could there be?'

You say, 'guilt'

16. Help Vyndale deal with his guilt 0/1 Unkempt Woods

Vyndale Manna appears ready to punch you, but holds back. 'Well... yes, of course I feel some guilt. How could I have helped such evil?' He looks distraught. 'I provided them with furs, leathers, bones, antlers. Anything they demanded, I delivered to them without question. So yes, fine, I am guilty. [Judge] me all you want. Strike me down, even, if you think the punishment fits. If you don't, Tunare eventually will.'

You say, 'I don't want to judge you, but why did you do it?'

Vyndale Manna says, 'For my family.' He looks sadly into the distance. 'We hit hard times and there wasn't enough coin or food to go around. I couldn't stand to see my children clearly emaciated and suffering. It was no secret that I'm skilled with a bow, so when the Rallosians proposed a deal -- they pay me, and since I know the forest well, I provide goods -- how could I say no? I could feed my family again, though I couldn't bear to tell them the truth of how I earned my coin. I told them I sold my goods to a traveling merchant. I should have known better than to trust [what] those Rallosian scums promised, though.'

You say, 'What happened?'

Vyndale Manna says, 'I was out hunting far away from where my family lived. While I was gone, the Rallosians attacked. Whether they knew that was my home or not, I'll never know. But when I returned... there were no survivors. Perhaps it was their way of telling me the deal was off. Whatever the reason, I'm too ashamed to ever step foot in an Elddar town again. I betrayed my people and I don't [know] if there's any way to wipe my slate clean. This is who I am now. Vyndale the Traitor.'

You say, 'You don't know that. You've proven that you're no friend to the Rallosians. I think the Elddar would accept you.'

Vyndale Manna says, 'I suppose you're right. I've never tried. Maybe it's true. It's been so many years since I lost my people and my purpose. It'd be nice to find it again. Thank you for the help. I will try to speak to them.'

17. Check in with Elmara Emberclaw

You say, 'Hail, Elmara Emberclaw'

Elmara Emberclaw says, '_____! Did you successfully help Vyndale with his guilt? Guilt is a tough feeling to overcome, since you can't go back and change the past. It's difficult, but you must accept responsibility for whatever made you feel guilty. Only then can you move on to healing.' She smiles. 'And with that final task complete, I'd say you're an expert in helping people overcome the often misplaced anger that accompanies loss. I hope you understand now what a challenge I faced tackling my own feelings of loss. Forging the Lost and Found [rings] was my first step toward dealing with my grief.'

You say, 'What are these rings?'

Elmara Emberclaw holds up a shining ring. 'It's my first creation at the forge, and something I wish I had before I lost Kasha. I crafted a pair of rings, one called 'Lost' and one called 'Found.' The rings are magically paired so that one can always locate the other. When used, it will teleport you to the wearer of the other ring. I don't know why I've held on to them for so long. Maybe, subconsciously, I hoped Kasha would reappear and I could finally give her 'Found.' After listening to my story, I'd like to give you the ring I intended for myself: 'Lost.' I believe you will find a way to make good [use] of this.

You say, 'I will use it.'

Elmara Emberclaw smiles. 'Now, if you can think of someone special to you, you'll be able to link to that person if they wear the 'Found' ring. I'm not going to give you both rings, though. If you think of someone you'd like to have the 'Found' ring, tell them to come to me. I will send them on a set of trials as well, and if they pass, I will give them the other ring. I'm sure that any [friend] of yours will have no trouble earning it.' Her eyes twinkle. 'I hope you'll come back and visit sometime. It's been so lovely to become your friend, YourName.'

You say, 'I'll tell a friend'

Elmara Emberclaw puts Loss in your palm. She holds your hand for a moment and looks lamentingly at the ring, then at you.

You have gained 36 ability point(s)! You now have 49 ability point(s).
You gain experience!

You have been given: Lost

Elmara Emberclaw says, 'I look forward to meeting a friend of yours in the future.'

I'm only 30% in to lvl Lost's book and would hate to have to redo the grind. has anyone finished both and tried?

To get the cup of water you don't need to pick up anything, it appears on your cursor and updates the task step when you simply walk over the right location.

The Notebook evolves from killing, takes alot. Unless there was another way I am unaware of?
