When you hail the Hermit next to the zone to the Lake of Ill Omen he says he is looking for a great sorcerer. If you say you are a great sorcerer he usually responds something like You have many more deeds to accomplish. However, if your faction, is high amiable he will hand you a flaxen hilt, which has 4 round slots on one end. He tells you to put within what once was there and return it.

    The Requirements

A Flaxen Lock of Hair: Identifies as "Lock of Flaxen Cord." Drops from Chief Rokgus in Droga as one of his more uncommon drops, about 1 in 15.

A Yellow Whip: Identifies as "A Whip of Flaxen Cord." Drops off a wandering named Drolvarg called A Wulfware Lonewolf (he wanders near the Firiona Vie zoneline from the Dreadlands).

Large Tassel Bookmark: Identifies as "Tassel of Flaxen Cord." Results from the Tome Raider Quest.

Combine all of these in the new Flaxen Hilt that the Iksar Hermit is now handing out and you will get the Barbed Scaled Whip. When you hand him the Whip and your Sorcerer's Cap from the previous part of this quest you get the following text:

An Iksar hermit says 'All is not complete. A cap and the rest, which was asked for, is required.'

An Iksar hermit takes the flail and vanishes with a brilliant flash!! Within your hands appears a skullcap. You hear a voice echo through the cave. 'Well done. You are a formidable necromancer. We thank you.'

    ...and you receive:

    Necromancer Skullcap:
    magic lore
    8 ac 3 dex 5 int 15 mana 8 sv magic
    heart flutter (instant) 3 charges
    useable from inventory

Need all dialogues, faction hits, /loc of quest mobs.

    Couple thoughts....
    # Jun 17 2001 at 1:52 PM Rating: Default
I am currently in Lake of Ill Omen, and I this find this quest very intriguing. A couple thoughts:

First of all, perhaps the quest is primarily for non-Iskar and classes such as Wiz , Mage or Enchanter. Enchanters are the natural jewellers of the game, and maybe the hilt has to be combined in a Jeweller's kit with gems one at a time (unless hilt is classed as "container" when you right click on it). i am not sure what the gems could be, but found some sort of Lore item Gem off of an Ice Skeleton called Heart of Ice. Maybe there are more lore item type gems like this one found of the various creatures in Kunark.

Secondly, maybe it has something to do with the new Shaman Imbue spell. Shaman can now imbue different stones and items like ivory with magical energy much like the enchanter's can enchant metal.

I'll try to go see the sorcerer and hopefully my faction will be high enough to get the quest. I'll try the heart of Ice, and if the hilt isn't a container then I will try combining it in my Jeweller's Kit.

Heart of Ice is used in the illusion iksar quest for enchanters

look i think you get 4 special gems and smith them in a forge (meaning the hilt is not a container) in which you get a completed hilt. you then give it to the hermit. the question is what is the "gems" come on you wouldnt need another hilt

    gems in a sceptre

Where did you find the gem of yet to come, may I ask?

Its dropped off of the Sarnak Gem Cutter (or was it Gem Oracle, only mob with 'gem' in the name, check Illia's bestiary) in Lake of Ill omen, spawns in and around the fort area.

    Wondering

Has any one said "I Am The New revenant" to the hermit? That triggers the quest from Glosk who seems to have something to do with this guy. I'll try tonight.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 06 2001 at 3:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a necro friend, I want to do the quest for him, as a payback for past favors, I am ticked that who ever replied first would not tell what the hell the item was, it is a disgrace, I am not going to spend five days of my hell ridden life, just to get somehting he might not even like, so if you are a generous and understanding person (who ever reads this) please reply with the stats, and I will be forever grateful. For some of us don't need to be cradled like babies not being told what stats are or stories so we wont be spoiled, I just want to know so I can help someone ele, I'm sure they will be surprised still...
#Anonymous, Posted: May 01 2001 at 1:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This quest is one of the hardest I have ever been on it took me like 5 days to get all the items needed the four gems you use in the Necromancers quest for the skull cap need to be given to the hermit along qith the sword (sword first then the gems) He will give it back to you Whole It also lowers your factions with the Necros Guild Not Much though and rasies it with the Legions of Cabilis The Item is great But i will not tell you what it is for it should be a suprise to you Necros
    "Forbidden"

Has anyone seen the Forbidden Scribe near the maze in West Cab? I think he has something to do with this, not sure what.
This quest vs. last skullcap quest
    # Mar 29 2001 at 3:54 AM Rating: Default

    Ok heres my 2 cp:

A lot of evidence from books, etc point to this being dag, or a follower of dag. Dag being a necromancer who switched from necromancy to sorcery, forbidden, was killed(seriously, though couldn't he have just FD'd? j/k (: )
Anyways I think the faction is there for a clue, I mean why else? Your faction drops because the necromancers dont like you talking to a sorcerer, of course he can still trian you becuase he still knows necromancy, its just that he practices sorcerer. Which is what hes looking for a great Sorcerer, I dont think he means necromancer, and if he does, i think hes trying to convert a necromancer.
So to the point: The first thing im going to try is the 4 gems that are needed for the last skullcap quest, Do the same exact thing you need to do for that quest, but insead of what the master gives you, use what the hermit gives you.

So IMHO this quest is either not for necromancer, or should compete in some way with the necromancer guild.

Sorry took a lot for granted on what anyone might know backround wise, its all found on this site though
    a simple question
    # Mar 16 2001 at 4:18 AM Rating: Default
I am an Iksar Necromancer of 31 seasons. I have talk to this iksar many times, and have never received a faction hit of any kind, are you people receiving factions hits Necromancers? or is it just because you are monks, shamans or warriors that you are receiving faction hits?
    RE: a simple question
    # Jun 15 2001 at 1:55 PM Rating: Default
Yes...if your faction is not LOW ENOUGH with the Brood of Kotiz (the necro guild) then you will not recieve a faction hit.

    Another Idea
    # Mar 08 2001 at 8:41 PM Rating: Default
I talked to the Hermit and got the Flaxen Hilt. I am a monk but it sounded to me like maybe he wants the 4 withered fingers from the fingered skeleton in Kurn's. They are used in a monk quest but it wouldn't be the first time they were used in two different quests. I too, couldn't open the hilt. I tried to equip it and place it in every slot in my inventory but still couldn't open it. But four round slots=4 withered fingers=what once was there, maybe fingers were once wrapped around the hilt.

    # Mar 11 2001 at 9:44 AM Rating: Default
No, the fingers were never wrapped around the hilt. After Talon died, he was placed in Kurn's tower to rest, before it was over taken wih the undead and burnyai. I doubt that his iksar brothers will insult him by wrapping his fingers around the hilt of a blade.

    Double Take
    # Mar 06 2001 at 3:21 PM Rating: Default
I just had an interesting thought. Perhaps the gems you need to collect for the Harbinger to get the 7th skullcap are the same ones you need to put back in the hilt the Hermit gives you and you complete the quests by forging them in Dalnir's Forge. This might also explain the faction drop for talking to the Hermit.
    Forgot to add

When he gives you the flaxen hilt you lose factions. I will post which ones later.

Found a lens on the same frog that drops the Tome Binder in Swamp of No Hope. Its name is a lens of sorts. Identifies as A Tier'Dal Reading Spectacle. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm... perhaps this could be a different quest? Try posting the info you have so far as broken, in the swamp, and see what info you get. it might help a bit more. *shrugs* good luck

i don't know much about quest to much because of only being lvl 31 but i hear people talking about round slots on this item and i have a globe of fear in the bank thati have been holding onto because someone said it was for necro quest but they are not sure but just a thought Chiidii-lvl 31 necro-bertox

    # Feb 16 2001 at 10:32 PM Rating: Default
The necro quest for the Globe of Fear is in Neriak Foreign Quarter -- it involves turning in some items to get words for spell research. Probably easier just to find the words and sell the sphere to a merchant.
    The Hermits Robe
    # Jan 31 2001 at 7:49 AM Rating: Default
That robe looks REALLY cool, and I'd love to get my hands on it...Has anyone ever killed him to get it? If so, what are the stats and who all can wear it?
    Just an Idea
    # Jan 22 2001 at 2:38 PM Rating: Default
I'm not sure about this, but what if it is linked to the thing where you hail the Iksar Knight in Warsliks Wood who then takes you to some place an digs in the ground and runs off with something, leaving you with a broken hilt (or something like that, I dunno what its called) this may be one of the four things needed to be combined in the flaxen hilt.
Maybe killing the Knight will result in getting a second piece, the piece he ran off with.
If anyone knows of any other odd items like this that could be combined in the hilt, posting em here might help to figure out this quest.

    # Apr 29 2001 at 1:10 AM Rating: Default
The knight and what he drops are for the SK weapon upgrade quests....not sure the purpose of the thing he drops yet but he is Grizzle the Knight who was sent to map Chalk (the forest giant fort). The quest from him is he wants a shovel , 2 miscribed scrolls (droped from a forest giant spaling in the for) and a bottle with a scroll in it (in the water in the FAR corner of the zone near Dalnir). He then gives the questing Sk the map of Chalk which is turned in with the previous weapon for the upgrade. Check the Zealot quest in west cab for more.
    RE: Just an Idea
    # Aug 12 2001 at 4:03 PM Rating: Default
The Obsidian Hilt that the knight drops has nothing to do with the SK quest. They are totally seperate. You can do the quest, and get the Chalp plans, and then follow him and pick up the obsidian hilt that he drops, but the hilt, so far, has not been used in any solved quest. SO maybe it is related to the Flaxen Hilt from the Hermit
    RE: Just an Idea
    # Mar 29 2001 at 3:46 AM Rating: Default
If you hail the guy sitting down in WW who looks like he has no equip, wait 2 min and he'll start walking, follow to where he stops. He starts to dig, then drops an Obsidian Hilt, Identifies as ZOK. No idea what ZOK is any info would be great.

according to post about this quest no killing him before or after he digs results in an empty corpse
    RE: Just an Idea
    # Feb 21 2001 at 9:23 AM Rating: Default
I Tried killing the knight once but when you hail im he says something like "the guards will protect us"
Then sure enough when you attack him he yells for the gaurds help and crusaders harm touch you..but go ahead and try anwyays =)
    trade skill?
    # Jul 21 2000 at 1:35 AM Rating: Decent
I tried to cast identify on the flaxen hilt I got

    Lore item: flaxen hilt

perhaps this is another one of those trade skill quest forging or something.

Something to also note is that getting the hilt for that quest cause the brood of kotiz faction to drop ... very odd.
    RE: trade skill?
    # Sep 20 2000 at 5:11 PM Rating: Default
This is actually not so odd. I figure that the hermit is an outcast from the brood for casting forbidden magic. Some books in Cab tell of another member of the brood who dabbled in magic other than necromancy and was killed for it.
    RE: trade skill?
    # Dec 22 2000 at 10:19 AM Rating: Default
mmhhh heres another idea, wich i got by reading several books...
perhaps its for another class such as magicians or wizzards or so... the book tells about forbidden...
i have no char to test it, but i would be interested in the result if a wiz mag or enc can go in invis and if he gets the hilt also, maybe he gets some more infos
    Possible solution
    # Jul 14 2000 at 7:56 PM Rating: Decent
I think this quest is broken right now maybe, since i think you should be able to put 4 items into the hilt but you cant open it for some reason. And 4 round slots sounds like a great place to put my 4 elemental spheres foraged from Skyfire zone
    RE: Possible solution
    # Nov 09 2000 at 12:40 PM Rating: Default
This could be similar to the Thex Mallet quest where you need to get the mallet head and hilt and combine them in the stem, which is a container. I would guess that you would need to get a flaxen stem from somewhere and combine 4 "things" and the flaxen hilt to make a new item to hand in to the hermit...
    Wrong Zone
    # Jul 14 2000 at 7:51 PM Rating: Default
This quest is in West Cabilis near the zone to Lake of Ill Omen not in East Cabilis just so you know
