This quest begins with Brother Qwinn in South Karana.

You say, 'Hail, Brother Qwinn'

Brother Qwinn says 'In the name of the [Brotherhood of the Lost Circle], I greet you.'

You say, 'What about the Brotherhood of the Lost Circle?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The [monks of the Whistling Fist] are called the Lost Circle by others. We are an ancient league of monks, long forgotten and nearly extinct. Within this realm, there are only two. [Brother Zephyl] and myself. We seek the items stolen from us. I seek the [Code of Zan Fi].'

You say, 'What Monks of the Whistling Fist?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The monks of the Whistling fist were forged from the vision of the great master, Zan Fi. When the Combine Empire reigned supreme, a single bard grew to learn the ways of the monk. This bard was Zan Fi. The brotherhood was all but destroyed in the times that followed. Now only a few remain to carry on Zan Fi's legacy.'

You say, 'Who is Brother Zephyl?'

Brother Qwinn says 'Brother Zephyl is searching for one who can return the [idol of Zan Fi]. I believe he is somewhere in the vicinity of the Rathe Mountains.'

You say, 'What is the Code of Zan Fi?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The tome called the Code of the Whistling Fist has been stolen from me. It contains many secrets pertaining to our brotherhood. Thankfully, it is magically locked and only a Zan Fi master could unlock it. I require a monk to retrieve it. Would you be an [interested monk]?'

You say, 'I am an interested monk'

Brother Qwinn says 'Then venture into the depths beyond the great Solusek Mining Company. There, living among the kobolds, will be Targin the Rock. Get the book from him, then return here and wait for my reappearance. When we meet again, you shall hand me the book and a purple headband earned from the Silent Fist clan. Do so and you shall be closer to joining the brotherhood.'

You say, 'What about the idol of Zan Fi?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The idol of Zan Fi is a totem that is sacred to our brotherhood. I cannot share its secrets, but I can tell you that [Brother Zephyl] will offer to you a reward for its return..'

The code of Zan Fi is dropped by Targin the Rock, a rare spawn in the throne room of Nagafen's Lair (Solusek B). Bring him the Code and a Purple Silent Fist Headband.

Brother Qwinn says 'We had an agreement. The proof of a skilled monk, the purple headband, and the Code of the Whistling Fist.'

Brother Qwinn says 'We thank you for the return of the Code of the Whistling Fist. Take this sewing needle. You shall find it useful should you aid [Brother Zephyl] in his quest. His item, the needle, a swatch of shadow silk and a scroll containing Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. Into a sewing kit they will be going. And into the brotherhood will you. I hope you do not wish me to [return the headband]..'
You gain experience!!

You receive a special needle.

You say, 'Return the headband?'

Brother Qwinn says 'Then you will return that which was earned or the robe.'

Brother Zephyl is found in the Rathe Mountains...

You say, 'Hail, Brother Zephyl'

Brother Zephyl says 'Greetings. I am one with the [Lost Circle]. You have found me. What is it you desire?'

You say, 'What about the Lost Circle?'

Brother Zephyl says 'The [monks of the Whistling Fist] are called the Lost Circle by others. We are an ancient league of monks. Long forgotten and few yet remain. Within this realm there are only two. [Brother Qwinn] and I. We seek the items stolen from us. I seek the [idol of Zan Fi].'
[
You say, 'What is the Idol of Zan Fi?'

Brother Zephyl says 'The idol of Zan Fi is a totem that is sacred to our brotherhood. I cannot share its secrets, but I can offer to you a reward for its return. Are you an [interested monk]?'

You say, 'I am an interested monk'

Brother Zephyl says 'Then venture to the lands of evil. The swamps of the trolls and ogres. There, seek out a monk called Raster. He has the idol. You will return here and wait for my reappearance. When we meet again, you shall hand me the idol and a red sash earned from the Ashen Order. Do so and you shall be closer to joining the brotherhood.'

The Idol is in possession of Brother Raster, who spawns in the Mino Elders room in Lower Guk. Bring Zephyl the Idol along with a red sash.

Brother Zephyl says 'We had an agreement. The proof of a skilled monk, the red sash, and the idol of Zan Fi.'

Brother Zephyl says 'We thank you for the return of the idol of Zan Fi. Take this rare robe pattern. You shall find it useful should you aid [Brother Qwinn] in his quest. His item, the rare robe pattern, a swatch of shadow silk and a scroll containing Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. Into a sewing kit they will be going. And into the brotherhood will you. I hope you do not wish me to [return the sash].'

You gain experience!!

You receive a special tailoring pattern.

You say, 'Can you return the sash?'

Brother Zephyl says 'Very well. Give to me that which you have been rewarded or the robe, if you have a tailored one.'

Combine the pattern and needle in a sewing kit with a swatch of shadow silk (tailored) and a Scroll of Jonathans Whistling Warsong (bought from the Bard's Guild). This produces the Robe of the Lost Circle.

Is the Brother Qwinn spawn broke. No signs of him since SOL patch on zev?

FYI ..... Brother Qwinn has PH's Unfortunately it appears to be everything that walks the same path he does. Also we noticed that killing SE corner of zone makes more cyclops and undead cyclops spawn who we all know are DEFINETLY PH for the named mob's. We got Quilmane popping left and right (alot) in about 8 hours by doing that. 4 of us in zone one SE killing the other NW killing and tracking one by the hermit and the other by KFC (aviaks) we never did get qwinn but quillmane popped 5 times in the 8 hours dropped the cloak once in all that. If anyone figures out EXACTLY what makes Qwinn spawn, man i will love you forever.

Can you sit FD in the Room or does he have a ph? As in sit FD till he pops, and then whoop his booty, or do you have to kill a PH?
RE: Raster
# Nov 23 2001 at 4:14 AM Rating: Decent
Well you can sit there FD and watch things spawn and despawn etc. But when he spawns you are gonna have every mino in the room beating on you also once you attack Raster, so if you think that you can take him out fast enough before the minos make paste outta ya, then ya you could, but it would be even more boring then it already is...

I plan on getting the purple sash the same way I did the red sash but it depends on the mobs there. In freeport there are three monks standing outside the guild. I aggroed all three on accident and ran around the corner and instinctly fd'd instead of zoned. Two of the monks went back to there spots leaving only Rah`un(?) behind. I stood up, killed him, and looted him, resulting in my current possesion of the red sash. No faction, no purchasing off anybody. Just plain and simple laid waste to him. I'm gonna check qeynos later to see if the same thing can be done. Just thought I'd post this info.

on like the 3rd sash i went to get in qeynos ...i had bought the 2nd from someone in fay-mart so i thought i had the angle on it. well come to find out i turned in the bought sash and the items in qeynos for the 3rd sash and he told me to come back when i had grown more favorable or something ...had perfect faction and am human also i believe the favorable..ness lol is gained thru getting the sashes yourself and not buying them . i have what i need for the robe now minus the idol of zan fi . but was just letting you know that buying a sash did not reward me with the next sash...FOR ME anyway.

yes, that is exactly how it works... the belt quest faction increases are so you HAVE to do the quests yourself or not at all.. ie, you can't just buy one sash and then upgrade it. I had that happen to me once when i lost my white, someone gave me a yellow. Went to upgrade and lost it =/

Greets all I am Sir Armistis Daye, 39th Monk of Cazic Thule.

I just wanted to post my success with Raster, and add to the information about the camp. I started to clear the camp at 0715 EST (8am ingame) in a military style, that is I sent in the 49th Ranger and 57th Paladin ahead of me;) We Sup camo'd and ran to the room, and went directly to the pathway to the pit. The first wanderer immediately arrived from the hall coming into the room, a Froggie Ghoul Knight. Clearing the minos was obviously simple with the firepower at hand. The hard decision came when we only had the Placeholder left, and it was 1pm in game. I decided to wait and see if it despawned by 7pm/8pm, but alas it didn't, so we took it out. We cleared the room approximately 3 times or so, before 5am came. Now, we're all sitting there medding and chatting, and only I'm facing the PH spot. At approximately 830 RL time, 5am to 7am game time, Raster of Guk appeared, and I promptly fainted. The Paladin threw some holy water in my face to wake me. Needless to say we rushed him and after he refused to surrender the artifact, we were left with no choice but to kill him.
Hastily we camo'd and exited the lower guk zone, vowing to return to help existing monks some other day. I then met up with my driver, Greyson, and proceeded to Qeynos and its bank, to retrieve my quest pieces (needle, Shadow Silk, Jonathons Whistling warsong scroll, and the red sash to hand in with the idol). I dispatched Greyson to Kelethin to retrieve a Large Sowing Kit, which would be needed for the end product.
Loaded up for the trip to Rathe Mts to find Brother Zephyl, we made swift progress to the zone. I knew Zephyl's path to cross the intersection in front of the Feerot zone, so I set camp there with the druid to track. After 20 mins or less, the quick footed Zephyl ran by me, and I mean ran by me;x I turned and he was gone:) Luckily he is like Hasten, a caffine addict. He tends to get stuck running back and forth in a short 10" distance.
I approached and hailed, and we spoke about what he needed (I am totally nervous when doing these mid level quests). I confirmed it was the Red Sash from Freeport, and the idol I had just retrieved from Raster. I traded them to Brother Zephyl, who provided me with a Robe Pattern. Again, I checked my current quest pieces, and confirmed the Shadow Silk, Jonathon's Whistling Warsong, the Needle and the Pattern. I placed all in a Large Sowing kit and hit combine. After opening my eyes, I saw a Robe had been placed in my inventory, and I right clicked it to make sure I didn't goof. Woot! I had my robe of the Lost Circle.
The robe wears well, dark maroon color, and meshes well with the Treant fists and Wu's Shoes;) Well, now I can breath easier for a few levels;) But I know I will return to Raster someday, and assist thoughs who go through the ordeal of this quest.
I believe the entire quest took me about 3 to 5 weeks to complete. It was my 2nd camp of Raster, the first one was only a few hours long, and saw only 3 placeholders.

Sincerely,
Sir Armistis Daye,
Knight of the Round Table,
39th Monk of the Lost Circle.

Actually the pattern is gained from Zephyl by handing him the Idol and your red sash from FP monks guild. The code you speak of, which is dropped by Targin in SolB, is handed into Qwinn in SK, along with your purple headband from Qeynos monks guild and Qwinn gives you the needle. Everything that was said in that post was legit so before accusing someone of lieing know what you speak of.

Yes, I have completed it through hard faction work. Prepare to get bored out of your skull and have everyone tell you how crazy and insane you are because they did it using a mule.

One thing very important to note, faction messages don't tell you how many faction points you are receiving. You get more faction points (or lose points) for killing certain NPC's and for completing quests.

For FP, do the rogue note quests with Rebby and Janem and anything else that will help qith the militia and the monk guild. As soon as the master will accept the items for the white sash, do it many times over. It's easy to find the scalps, chips, and fangs on merchants to be bought cheap because of newbies. Do the white sash until you are an ally because you also get Qeynos faction for it.

When you finally get to Qeynos, do the monk quest Note For Konem until you are allowed to do the Rescue of Tomer and do both. Run kill 30 gnolls, do these quests, and run kill 30 gnolls until you are high amiable. You could go kill 100 gnolls to start, but it gets old is why I suggest a few intermingled with the quests. Try turning in the scalps, once he will accept them, go buy as many as you can to do it until you are warmly.

You may not need or wish to get to ally or warmly, but as long as it is so easy to buy the items for cheap and only takes 5 more minutes, it's worth it considering the faction raises for the guards, residents, and merchants.

WARNING: even though the monk guilds and merchants are allied, the caster guilds will still want your blood. Don't go near the cleric or pure caster guilds.

I, as an iksar, have gotten enough faction in Freeport and Qeynos to do the quests. The faction needed for the guildleaders needs to be either amiable or warmly (i forget). But in order to get the quests past the first quest you need this high faction. To get faction in Freeport I killed goblins in Highkeep and got their left ears. I did this quest with 9 stacks of ears and became welcomed in FP (the militia) then kill orcs in East Commons to become welcomed by the guild in FP. Next journey to BB and kill any gnoll that moves. This will get you into the good side of Qeynos.

One thing to look out for in North Qeynos is a Shadow Knight guard named Dagarok aligned with the bad Qeynos faction. Only killing gnolls will result in him still being KOS to you. He has a habit of standing behind a corner near the Monk guild, so becareful when entering/exiting the guild as an iksar. He will HT you and then whoop you.

Freeport Militia - left goblin ears in Highkeep
Knights of Truth & Ashen Order - Orcs in EC
Guards of Qeynos & Silent Fist Clan - Gnolls in BB

Good luck everyone,

I don't know if you all know this but due to enchanters nature and abilities we are able to do almost ANY quest. We have spells that can make us instantly indifferent called illusions and other spells that can raise us to warmly if not allied. This gives us not only the ability to run free in a lot of dangerous places but also do quests that most dream of.

Well with that said, I have personally done many many quest involving rare, multiple-PH, spawns. It is my educated opinion that the statistics that are quoted on the spoiler sites concerning Raster are possibly erroneous. Some quote him as a 5% spawn. This would suggest a 1 in 20 chance to spawn. Even if he were to spawn and then despawn and not spawn until the outside of the next set of twenty that would make 40 spawns at most. Not the 83 plus people are reporting.

What can I surmise. Remember the gnolls in high hold pass? The named gnoll that spawns there that drops the tomohawk (i think). He's NOT a rare spawn. He is directly triggered by the death of another spawn in another zone. Hmmmm who could that be? OR, remember the hero bracer. yes the slaver PH death triggers the mino hero to spawn across the valley and run a path. Imagine if noone knew that and thought he randomly appeared. You'd be camping that spawn point and REALY getting bored thinking he was gonna randomly spawn.

What can be done: I recommend if you don't wanna just kill whats-his-fists in Rathe Mountains that you probably get your guild to do a multi zone effort to test those theories. If nothing else you'll bond even more together. And if it does work, just think monks everywhere will hail you as a messaih.

www.monkly-business.com has a good spoiler for this quest.

Raster is a pain in the @#$% to camp. I used the alternating spawn/despawn kill method. Wait for the 10 am game time spawn, if it's Raster? Hooray! if not, kill it. Let the next spawn pop, and leave it alone until it despawns on its own. Next pop, kill, succeding pop, let despawn. Repeat ad nauseum until Raster pops.

Targin is a little easier since the King room in Sol B is usually camped. Keep the King room cleared and Targin will eventually spawn.

Qwinn I got lucky on, no info, sorry. I came into the zone, hollered if anyone had seen him, someone had him on track, hunted him down and kept hailing him until I got there. He was about halfway between the bridge and Paw.

Zephyl: He has 2 PH's, a drake, and Hasten Bootstrutter. The drakes are easy, and the common PH. Hasten Bootstrutter is more difficult, has tons of HP, and hits fairly hard. Hasten was blue to me at 46. I had a druid friend **** him off a bunch, then kite him in a circle while I beat on him. Make no mistake though, he hits hard, moves fast even snared, and is hard to target for melee. They all path around the first hill to the left after you cross in from feerrott. Both Hasten and Zephyl run at SoW speed, and move around like crazy. Incidentally, Zephyl conned Red to me at 46. I recommend having a druid or Ranger friend to help you out as they can track and SoW which you'll need.

You need a tailoring skill around 50 - 75 or so to reliably make the shadow silk swatch (silk swatch + scroll of gather shadows (8th level necro spell), + shadow wolf pelt). I had a friend make it for me, since my tailoring skill is like 4.

The robe takes no tailoring skill at all.

Hope this helps! I just got mine last night. :)

# Apr 07 2001 at 11:42 PM Rating: Good
is this item called 'shadow silk' or 'a swatch of shadow silk'? I have made shadow silk by the recipe 1 scroll of gather shadows + 1 shadow wolf pelt + 1 silk swatch. Is this right? if not what is the recipe for the right swatch?

I was also confused about this, you have made the correct item though. Shadow silk is what is used to make the robe, no shadow silk swatch, there is no susch item in the game. I made the robe 1 hour ago with shadow silk =)

Hi, I am Spontaneous Combustion (lvl 47 monk) of the Emarr server. I was out camping for brother qwinn for 7 days straight, no food, no sleep killing anything that moved. and today, i finally got him thanks to Charonn (thanks man i owe ya). Word of advice for any of you questing for it. For some reason 2 sentry alechins were spawning, so we petitioned a gm about it and they said they would check into it...still 2 were spawning tho so we did it again with a different gm, and then again with another gm, finally, the 2 sentry alechins stopped spawning and sure enough brother qwinn spawns. So....if you see 2 sentry alechins on track petition it (not sure if that was the prob or not but very well could be)

Takor, I'd wait until you're around level 40 at a minimum with your cleric friend.

Both Targin and Raster spawn in tight areas with some fairly hard hitting mobs. It's not easy to keep the room cleared without help. If you had a good balanced group of 6 around level 35, I'd say you could do it, but I'm very cautious about taking on mobs anyways.
multiquest?
# Mar 04 2001 at 8:30 PM Rating: Default
i was wondering if you could multiquest a couple parts of the quest.... a guildie of mine was going to the king camp in guk early in the morning (like 5am, i wasnt on, only frenzy and king were being camped, no monks in the zone) so he looted it, i know you cant multi the attucall robe because you need to tailor it and what not but i have the sash/headband and could my guild mate and i multi the idol and the sash to get me the pattern? also, how do you multi quest exactly? i heard (using the idol and the sash example):
1. group with guild mate
2. guildmate puts idol in trade window with the brother
3. i put sash in trade window with brother,
4. guild mate pushes give
5. i push give
6. i end up with pattern?
RE: multiquest?
# May 06 2001 at 7:21 AM Rating: Default
You can multi-quest the pattern.

Here's how it works. Have your friend hand Zephyl the idol. He will then wait for the sash. Just hand him the sash, and voila~

You don't have to be grouped
You don't have to both open a trade window in any particular order. Just do one at a time. Someone could possibly run up and hand him a red sash right before you do to effectively KS this from you, but I've never heard of that happening.

Good luck!
Brother Zephyl. Does he drop the Robe?
# Jan 07 2001 at 7:38 AM Rating: Default
Has anyone had first hand experience in killing Brother Zephyl?
I don't want my friend... i heard about..

i want someone that can say.
i helped kill Brother Zephyl, i seen the Message "XXXX has looted..."
He's a total non-caster.. sure.. maybe lvl 60.. but how hard can he really be? :)
My guild is FULL of Mages...
If i can get 100% proof he DOES drop the robe, then my plan is to get as many Mages together as i can... (and tanks/clerics). All use earth pets (hopefully have 6-10 mages). Pull to zone line (i'd do ferrott). all send pets. As he kills a pet, remake send him in... Once the Mages run OOM, or most pets are dead, you send in the Tanks, instead of having the tanks die, they zone out, zone in, get a heal, and go back in. If possible.. a lvl 60 shaman to slow him (if it would land).
I have a lvl 57 Mage myself. But have a super Monk twink (lvl 13) (so we have another good planes monk puller). Wasting time on a quest (i HATE quests) when we could kill him in half the time is how i'd like to do it.

So, IF you can tell me 100% positivitly he DROPS the robe. Please tell me. (if you can e-mail me at ropise@hotmail.com i check it more often than here).
Thanks!
-Ropise
P.S. I hope this works.. Quests suck.

See, the trick is to hand him a slow 2handblunt to slow him up, and if you can get a really high lv shammy(55+ preferred) to slow him even more - hes not that hard at all.

Yes Brother Z does drop the robe. We did this the other night. We had 4 full group to kill him. The first time we tried he whipped out all of us but were not set up in good groups. I.E. he killed everyone. We were all above the lvl of 50 and he is one tough SOB. Quad hits for 385. We tried a second time and was successful we only about 6 die out of 24. The groups had 2 Tanks, 2 Druids, 1 Cleric, and 1 Pure Caster. This way the tanks could stay alive longer. But again, yes he does drop the robe.
I hope this helps.

Finally got my robe too. And it IS nice. :-)
(Of course, it is needed for the upgrade so I'd have to do it anyway.. hehe)

The instructions in a post below ("Complete Quest") are perfect, so follow those:

Notes (accumulated) :
All items are no-drop ...

Raster (and PH) has a "3" spawn cycle:
6am.. if it is NOT Raster, let it depop
at 8am.. then another spawn happens at
10am, then like 6pm. If you kill the first
spawn at 6am, no spawn until 6pm so you
lose a chance..

Zephyr - I got lucky here. Waited about
1 hour in Rathe near the Lake zone and shouted
a few times looking for him. Someone found him
in the HG area just south of the first intersection after the Feerot zone (that would be left coming from Feerot).

Qwinn.. What can I say? This one sucked..
After waiting 2 days (about 8 hours each)
I gave up and played a twink cleric in SK
.. within 1 hour who walks by me but
Qwinn! So I camped and brought in my monk and got
the needle. As far as I know, there is no known
PH for him, etc. He just "happens" whenever..
At least he tends to stay around for a while
when he pops. Wish I had more news. At least
with the help here you only need to find him
once! :-)

Although you do NOT need tailoring to make the
robe, you DO need some to make the shadow silk.
So, I put 5 points in tailoring. You need a
LARGE tailoring kit. I bought my at the inn in
EC (first inn on the right, guy in the left alcove named Spooler Gee or something like that.. )
Silk Swatch : 2 silk things from spiders
Shadow Silk : silk swatch + shadow pelt (from shadow wolves) + spell of gather shadows (buy in necro/shadow knight hall)

Good luck everyone and safe hunting!

Purple Headband from queynos

Red Sash of Order from Freeport

Code of Zan fi (not whistling fist)from Targin the Rock (He is pulled to the KPC area)

The Idol - Raster Of Guk (near the pot which is right of the ladder leading from the elder pit, you cant miss it)

Brother Zephyl spawns in Rathe Mtns and the best way to catch him or any of his place holders (a drake, or Hasten Bootstrutter) is to come from feerott, go straight across the first 4 way intersection, turn around and face toward zone.
they ALL pass thru there Garaunteed!, and it is necessary to kill a drake and hasten several times (Hasten gives no faction). Brother Zephyl is wearing a robe of the lost circle and runs pretty fast. You hail him and give him "the idol" and Red Sash...he will give you a special robe pattern.

Finding brother qwinn isnt as tricky but he is so rare its not funny. He passes by the gnolls and aviak city all the time. and if you sit between Aviaks and Lake rathe zone...you are sure to see him. Expect a long camp. He wears cloth brown pants and no shirt. Give him the Code of Zan Fi and the Purple Headband and he will give you...needle of the void.

Put the needle, pattern, a swatch of shadow silk, and the bard scroll Jonathans Whistling Warsong in a large sewing kit and hit combine. I have seen people with no skill in tailoring make this robe. If you get this robe, feel proud.

if it wasnt for this robe being part of the robe of the whistling fists, I would truthfully say that it isnt worth all the frustration you go through.

Good Luck

I have camped Zephyl for 3 days about 6 hrs each day and killed Hasten and the Drake 100s of times. Brother Z has never spawn. No one has seen or tracked him that I have asked in a long time. I think he is broken but getting Verant to look into anything is impossible. Some people claim he is no longer on that Route of Hasten and the drake. Who knows no one has seen him forever.

I can't say for sure either, but I do believe Zephyl was moved to different spawn location. Perhaps V.I. decided it was stupid to have to kill one very important quest NPC to try and get another important quest NPC to spawn. If I were looking to get him to spawn soon, I'd kill mobs other than Hasten and that drake (not saying it can't be a drake, just not that one anymore).

GLuck on completing this quest. My monk is gearing up for it, spent yesterday and today getting all my headbands up to purple and sashes up to red. /pants heavily Talk about a lot of running.
UM I CAN KILL FOR IT
