When you hail the Hermit next to the zone to the Lake of Ill Omen he says he is looking for a great sorcerer. If you say you are a great sorcerer he usually responds something like You have many more deeds to accomplish. However, if your faction, is high amiable he will hand you a flaxen hilt, which has 4 round slots on one end. He tells you to put within what once was there and return it.

    The Requirements

A Flaxen Lock of Hair: Identifies as "Lock of Flaxen Cord." Drops from Chief Rokgus in Droga as one of his more uncommon drops, about 1 in 15.

A Yellow Whip: Identifies as "A Whip of Flaxen Cord." Drops off a wandering named Drolvarg called A Wulfware Lonewolf (he wanders near the Firiona Vie zoneline from the Dreadlands).

Large Tassel Bookmark: Identifies as "Tassel of Flaxen Cord." Results from the Tome Raider Quest.

Combine all of these in the new Flaxen Hilt that the Iksar Hermit is now handing out and you will get the Barbed Scaled Whip. When you hand him the Whip and your Sorcerer's Cap from the previous part of this quest you get the following text:

An Iksar hermit says 'All is not complete. A cap and the rest, which was asked for, is required.'

An Iksar hermit takes the flail and vanishes with a brilliant flash!! Within your hands appears a skullcap. You hear a voice echo through the cave. 'Well done. You are a formidable necromancer. We thank you.'

    ...and you receive:

    Necromancer Skullcap:
    magic lore
    8 ac 3 dex 5 int 15 mana 8 sv magic
    heart flutter (instant) 3 charges
    useable from inventory

Need all dialogues, faction hits, /loc of quest mobs.

    Flax Stuff
    # Oct 22 2002 at 9:37 AM Rating: Decent
Most quests seem to be about 2 hard items and 2 easier ones. Maybe the whip, the bookmark are the two hard parts and the other two are easier. Flax is a fiber of some plant of some sort? To be flaxen is made of that and yellowish according to a dictionary... so maybe next it is time to start foraging in plantish areas like trak or ej. Perhaps something flaxish will be foraged.

Well scrap this idea it may be on to something but I doubt it now. I am working with smaaug and will test what he wants me to. You know we can cast ident on various things for the word flax and all but it baffles me. So far all we see is a whip and a bookmark. Why would I stick a bookmark in a hilt? Maybe you give it to someone who gives you a gem or another whip or something?

There has to be someone who says something or a book that says something. The one about the wizard or necro who likes wizardry I don't think applies to the hermit. If you do please connect the dots.

The Large Tassel Bookmark is a kind of cord of flaxen material. Imagine a piece of string a couple feet or so long, that's what this should look like, that's what a tassel bookmark is (had shorter ones for pocket books as a kid). A couple feet because books in medieval/fantasy settings are usually depicted as 1-2 feet big unlike modern books. It would seem to be much shorter though than the kind of length a whip would have(10-20 feet), which puzzles me.

I solved a quest in Kaesora a few weeks ago that might be a subquest of this quest. It's about the right level (35th so just a bit past the 7th skullcap) to be part of it. And the result identifies as flaxen like the hilt and the 'a yellow whip' from the dreadlands.

However the hilt has 4 spots in it, the bookmark and the whip would only take up 2.

It's under the Tortured Librarian in Kaesora: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2168

    Possiblity?
    # Sep 20 2002 at 11:56 PM Rating: Decent
Im not a necro and I hate to sound like I know what I am talking about.... But I got an item in Kaesora the other day called "Power of Water." There is nothing listed about its use on Allakhazam, so I thought I might throw it out there if anyone has seen equal versions of "fire," "earth," and "air." Then maybe that has something to do with the final product. If not, i would be interested in knowing what the "power of water" is for.

i believe the powers of water air fire and earth are mage epic stuffs...not sure tho

    # Jan 03 2003 at 4:21 AM Rating: Decent
didnt look into the mage epic quest at all, but i know a part of it has to do with kaesora, and the pet the epic summons is water based, so that might be the drop mages spend hrs hunting after in that zone, and being that the epic pet is water, the power of water might be the only elemental power down there, but as i said, i have so real clue on that epic or what it intails, but that is the little bit i do know, if that helps at all. 8)
    Kurn's Gem drops
    # Sep 05 2002 at 7:13 AM Rating: Decent
The sapphire and emerald that drop from the first basement in Kurns(fingered skelly I believe) are for the iksar warrior pike quests. It is possible that they could be used in this quest, but unlikely in my opinion. As to what is needed? 7th rank cap is around level 30-35 for a group it seems, so I am guessing that this particular quest(IF it is part of the necro cap questline) is going to invlove toon levels between 40-45 to get at least one of the 4 components needed.

I'm not sure how long ago they changed this but everytime you say I am a great sorcerer your brood of kotiz faction gets better.

I also noticed when i right clicked on him the guild trainer window popped up.

pssst... there is no great secret to this quest. It's simply a shortcut to the seventh and last skullcap.

Much better to do all the previous quests and wear your Sorcerer title with pride.

A very long time ago before the Greenmist quest was finished I played an Iksar Shadowknight. I had the Lord of Pain's Khukri and was waiting for Greenmist to be finished. There was a lot of guessing as to what we would need. Raising Crusader Golin from the dead was one of the things most people were certain we would have to do. Turns out he didn't play a roll in Greenmist at all. A crusader coffin can be bought from the mortician. Golins skull ( iksar skull with a pierced cranium), Upper Torso ( lore bone chips), and Lower Torso ( lore bone chips ), can all be found on the Lumpy Goo's in Dalnir. To raise him from the dead, you are supposed to put the 3 parts into the Crusader Coffin and his weapon. Since Golin was never used to find Greenmist, he remains a mystery. My guess is he may come into play with the final Necro or Warrior quests that lack a "Final" item. I never found Golin's weapon either. I did suspect the Iksar Knight in Warslick to somehow be part of this. If you give him a shovel he runs off and digs something up, then throws a hilt on the ground ( you have to follow him after giving him the shovel). I haven't seen anyone mention this as a possible route for the final Necro quest, so I wanted to mention it. I was 100% sure this was gonna be part of the Greenmist quest and I was wrong. Maybe it'll come into play with the Skullcaps.

ok, heres a good idea now that the happy quest to replace yer newbie items is here. simply give him yer sorcerer skullcap. he will "eat" it and yell at you bout not turning in "blah blah blah" blah blah blah being the item we need. then, using what that item is called, we have an idea as to what we need to try and create. besides, you can always request the dumb cap anyhow
    my idea to get cap
    # Jun 05 2002 at 12:29 PM Rating: Default
to do this quest u must turn in the 7th cap witch is the sorcerors cap and the dagger i think to get the dagger u do the same thing as the visceral quest ( in dalnir quest section) but use the hilt the hermit gives you not the one u find in dalhir then idintify the thing bring it and your 7th rank cap or sorcers cap that you get from the 7th rank quest and give the BOTH to the hermit i know all this is ture exept for the part about geting the dagger dag is the hermit and dag is the one who once tried to make the dagger so it makes perfict sense

    # Jun 04 2002 at 11:39 PM Rating: Default
If the yellow whip off of the Drolvarg ID's as Flaxen, has anyone tried any other whips? Like the ones that goblins in Frontier Mountains drop? And the Beserker's Whips from The Overthere? Just go kill all over Kunark and try to find whips that ID as Flaxen, looks like the key.
    You tried this yet?

I usually don't scroll down the threads but I just wondered if you tried putting An Eye of Rokgus, A Gem of Yet to Come, A Shinny Emerald (ID's as Heart Of Torsis)and Jewel of Ganak (ID's as The Crown Jewel Of Ganak.

Just to give you all an update. As of 4/30/02, this quest is broken.

Send an email to jaraiza@soe.sony.com or your favorite Verant Exec and ask why they did all the iksar quests except warrior and necromancer. Or why they said it was going to be fixed back in February and it still isnt fixed? Oh wait they didnt tell me what year.

Ok peeps I think the gems are for the hollowed skull quest. I dont know what the quest is or what you get but i think that is what is is for. You get the hollowed mask. The mask has a combine button so i think i have to get one more item before i can find out what the heck it is.

well i was messing around today in Cab and decided to try the tunnel system between east and wast starting in the keepers grotto well anyways after a bit of a swim i got into the maze portion right in the entrance thre is a forbidden scribe that sells 3 lore books some one atleast is no drop all sell for about a gp or 2 so i bought the first one and read it. the book talks about a iksar wizzard that had a dagger that was gettign enchanted and about how he gets killed with the unfinised dagger and it also mentions the always works forge prehaps the other books might contain some more helpfull info on this quest
    A thought
    # Apr 10 2002 at 7:58 PM Rating: Default
There are three gems found in Kurns? This makes me think. There is a vendor somewhere in Cabilis that sells a book that tells the tail of the Visceral Dagger. The Dagger was made by an Iksar named Dag. I'll spare you the story that it tells but what it does say is that the dagger was made in Kurns. The forge of Dalnir was dragged over to Kurns where the dagger was being made. Well something happened and there was nothing left save the Forge which made it's way back to Dalnir. I know it's a crappy way of telling the story but look it up :). Anyway. This Hermit is seemingly an outcast and the story seemed to point to Dag being an outcast. Might have a link there. Also if the Visceral Dagger that is made in Dalnir is IDed using the ID spell is comes up as a Rusty Visceral Dagger. Hmm... That got me to thinking that this dagger was not done. The hilt that this Iksar gives to the quester may need the Dagger and the three stones to be mixed up in the Forge of Dalnir to make it what Dag set out to make? Just a thought :).

you guys seem to keep trying the most off the wall things to stick in a hole. lol
The problem is is that we're not given enough clues. there's got to be more than one npc involved. and I would imagine that the mobs that drop whatever is stuck in these holes would be more difficult than the previous cap quest? *shakes his head* This is hopeless...

btw... we should petition to have them slap an effect on these caps. They totally dont seem to be worth the effort. perhaps an effect pertaining to the quest? wizard type spell or something?
