This task follows the "Ancient Tomes" task, however "Ancient Tomes" is NOT a pre-requisite. It begins with Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar in Valdeholm (at -1535, +1430), who gives you some lead-in text after the Runed Diamond ends. You say, 'Hail, Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar' Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar says 'Hello there. I have heard about the assistance you have given the Wraithguard. What can I do for you, tiny one? Or perhaps you can [do something] for me.' You say, 'Do something?' Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar says 'I have been tasked with evaluating information and items to see if they are of value to our work or to our people. Currently I seek information from within the crypts, perhaps you [can help] me with that. Otherwise I have very little time to [talk] about personal matters.' You say, 'I can help.' You have been assigned the task 'Construction of Shadows'. There are reports that the Shade's have expanded the crypt since the living giants last saw it. Venture into Frostcrypt and see if you can find any of these newly-excavated chambers. Reward(s): You gain experience!! I was able to get this quest without having finished the Runed Diamond one as well. It is possible that you need to have adequate faction in order to get this quest however, as my faction was already amiable when I requested the task.

You are probably right about this task being available at anytime, I've heard about people getting it without the Runed Diamond quest too in the last few days. But I was sure i typed in all his prompts and never received it till after I completed Runed Diamond. If more people can get this without runed diamond. We can have them take this quest off Runed Diamond one.
I found the meeting room and temple room after 2 complete circles around the shade areas, so i can only assume those other 2 rooms are in the maze area.
Not sure how we are to complete this quest solo though. Since the abiminal snowman is guarding the hallway after clicking the torches. He can see through invis and ITU. .. and Rogue shroud surely does not work for him.

Thats right, two of the rooms Treasure Room and Jail are accessed from the East and West wings of the maze. I was able to complete it, with several deaths because I'm a monk.
Still, I did it before these zones before they were tuned down a bit. Probably a tiny bit easier now.
If your a monk... use FD, sneak and bring lots of invis potions :)

This task is available at any time.
I got Construction of Shadows and never even saw the runed diamond quest.
Here is some info on the Construction of Shadow's Quest.
It is an explore quest, with an unlimited time. You need to explore 4 different areas.
Find the Shade's Treasure Room
Find the Shade-built Temple of Rallos Temple (grammatical error)
Find the Shade's Meeting Hall
Find the Shade's Prison
All 4 of these steps take place in Frostcrypt
