Go to the Gulf of Gunthak. The NPC you're looking for is Millius Darkwater, and he's on the left side of the lighthouse from the direction you zone in. He's standing on the edge of the platform looking out over the water.

Your Location is 1324.49, -100.93, 3.13

Millius Darkwater regards you indifferently -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

You say, 'Hail, Millius Darkwater'

Millius Darkwater lifts his sword out of the water at his feet and scans his eyes across you. 'Hello, ______. The waters stir angrily today. Prexus is not pleased at the tarnishing of his waters by the spawn of Innoruuk. The Deepwater Knights have been trying to locate this [place] for many years.'

You say, 'What place?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The legends of Broken Skull Rock have been whispered for years. Indeed several of our greatest vessels were lost while in search of this island. Many of our [knights] died trying to cleanse Prexus' waters of this great Evil.'

You say, 'What knights?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Most recently a Cavalier named Chester Steelblade went in search of the legend. He was gone at sea for months before we received word from him. The letter we received spoke of a map that he'd found as well as a somewhat cryptic reference to having found the [key] to Broken Skull Rock. One of our [clerics] took a small group out in search of him, but we have received no news from either group.'

You say, 'What key?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Chester was not very clear as to what he found, some sort of black stone skull from what was in his writings.. We're sure that he must have found something that led him here. We have found no sign of him or his crew yet. Truthfully it would be a miracle if he were still alive. I follow his path in hopes that I can continue his work where he left off. If he is dead then his spirit may yet linger here. Tied to this world by his unfinished task.'

You say, 'What clerics?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The cleric that went in search of Chester's crew is called Alina Crystalia and she was barely more than a student when she left. We didn't want to let her go, but ultimately we had little say in the matter. She was always very fond of Chester. She may have in fact found him, although I suspect too late to save either of them. Clerics of Prexus are required to carry with them a Deepwater Emblem to identify them, if nothing else I hope to find Alinia's emblem to return it to Erudin.'

Now you have to get "A Deepwater Emblem," which appears to drop off of random mobs in Dulak and Gunthak. It looks like a silver ring with a large black stone in it. I got mine on one of the docks in Dulak harbor, seem to be more common of the Crew of the ships in Dulak. I heard someone in ooc get theirs at the fort in Gunthak. The drop comes down to luck. I got mine in about 15 min, some people camp for 2 days. Once you have the emblem, take it back to Millius.

Millius Darkwater bows his head quietly as his eyes bring recognition to his mind. 'Alina at least has met a bitter end. Her spirit surely lingers nearby. Find her and free her from her burden, ______. Her quest goes unfinished.
You gain party experience!!

He gives you back "Alina's Emblem," which looks the same as the old emblem. Now go to the beach south of the lighthouse and kill undead until the female version of "an erudite spirit" spawns. The male version is for one of the pally quests. I found her at loc (neg 855, neg 670) after killing several "a savage skeletal sailor." I heard someone else say they'd seen her on the eastern side of the beach and also mentioned the savage skeletons being her PH, respawn time at 16 minutes. So, if you run around killing the savage skeletons, she should pop for you.

On the beach with the wrecked ships in Gulf of Gunthak (approx. neg840, neg675) an erudite spirit spawns. Cons Indifferent to all.

Turn in Alina's Emblem to the spirit.

You gain experience!!
an erudite spirit is surrounded by a warm glow as the ring touches her ethereal form. Her lips curl into a smile as she begins to fade away into the mist. You hear something fall to the ground. You notice a wet scroll half buried in the sand. You reach down and pick it up.
You gain party experience!!
You have received Spell: Temperance.

My Temperance Experience
# Apr 16 2006 at 9:06 PM Rating: Decent
When my cleric arrived at level 40 it was time to do this quest. I took my level 51 pally to Dulak and tried to get the Deepwater Emblem to drop from a mob on the West Dock that has no ship. I camped my cleric at the top of the dock. Mobs aren't bad there but I cleared the fisherman just to the right of the top of the dock first in case a non rooted mob wandered up there. Also, to do that I waited until the wandering guards were not in the area as the fisherman paths to them before coming to me at the top of the dock. Then I would take out the dock mobs one by one as they were single pulls. Did this about 2o times and sometimes a named ogre pops that is a little tougher. I found that I had to root continually when they got to about 30% health as their magic resist is so high the root barely sticks and they often resist it - annnoying eh? Well this stategey was getting me no where and over a couple of sessions my pally gained about one yellow bulb. I had been OOC'ing for a PST if the Deepwater Emblem dropped. Finally someone from the Lady Dirulia called out tha an emblem was rotting. I camped my pally on the top of the dock and uncamped my cleric -- rushed over invised and guess what - the Deepwater Emblem had evaporated by then. So I stayed and they thankfully invited me onto their group. Five minutes later it dropped WOOT!!! - I was happy for that. I stayed and helped and guess what, a while later there were two more rotting on the deck...guess best thing is to try and get into a ship group. Anyway stayed and helped them for a few hours and gained almost a level - they were about lvl 52 to my cleric's 40. Their cleric became the tank - a little unusual but it worked and when I was low on mana he healed - made it all very easy. We also had a beastlord, wizzy and chanter.

Finally it ended and next day I went back to finish the quest -- took a few hours over two days and now my cleric is level 42. I have been there many times before and with my pally had seen both erudite spirits up together several times. Strategy is to clear the undead - in particular where the female erudite spawns by the side of the shipwreck. (Spirits always spawn in the same spots) Finally after killing the placeholder about 8 times I went back today for the third time - killed a few undead in the area and sat to med in front of the spirit spawn spot and -- she popped right in front of me --- WOOT -- just handed in the Alina's Emblem Millius had given me and there on my cursor was the Temperance spell. This all took quite a while but believe me when you first cast it you know it was really worth it.
completed quest and my experienc

started and finished the quest tonight (3:00 AM EST, 4/15/06)

I am a lvl 31 high elf cleric assisted by lvl 67 beastlord. (my hubby)

when you hail Millius Darkwater you will not receive a quest in the quest journal. so i wasn't sure if I could complete the quest and receive the spell before lvl 40. but the dialog came up perfectly. when i gave the deepwater emblem to millius, I received a quest success horn sound and everyone went smoothly from there.

first part of quest (obtaining the deepwater emblem) would have been very difficult/impossible to complete at this level solo without assistance at this level - all mobs were red.

when we arrived at the docks in Dulak's, I sent an /ooc message in zone letting others know what I was looking for, and someone sent me a tell when they discovered one. (very nice) the emblem was on one of the boats. while killing other mobs in search of the emblem also got some cool loot (gems, runes, weapons, words, etc. (including a ruby stone (can't remember exact type) that sold to a vender for over 61 plat.)

the spirit was exactly where many of the posts above have stated. had to kill 6 or 7 skeleton placeholders first which spawned every 20 or so minutes. (used the time to skill up on spells)
This part of the quest was quite manageable. the skele place holders were white or blue to me every time.

good luck everyone! it's an exciting feeling as a first time cleric to get the temp quest in your hands. (gated STRAIGHT to the bank for safe keeping afterward!)

recieved EXCELLENT exp at this level also (well over a full yellow) at quest completion

Deep Water Dropped by Fort
# Apr 15 2006 at 7:22 PM Rating: Decent
Was with a group on the beach and decided to go to the fort so our beastlord could hunt for the injured wolf.

After about 2 hours the emblem dropped off a troll marauder. We were camp against the outside wall of the fort on the east side pulling from the nearby huts. I wasn't expecting it to drop since everyone was saying that it was a rare drop in the forts, but I'm am thrilled that I have mine before I'm even 40!

okay, first, you want to give the emblem to the FEMALE spirit. The male is for the paladin version.

second:
Millis Darkwater does not care if you worship Innoruk. He worships Prexus who is technically neutral and could probably care less about you and Innoruk.

Dark Elf Cleric
# Aug 09 2005 at 2:29 PM Rating: Decent
Was reading up on this quest since my cleric is getting close to 40 now. Haven't spent any time in LoY but I do have the expansion. Can a Dark Elf Cleric of Innoruuk do this quest since Millus Darkwater doesn't seem to like Innoruuk?

I don't see anything on faction either here or in the bestiary for him or the mobs in Gunthak and Dulak, and don't want to end up KoS in Neriak or the Trolls.

Thanks for any assistance.

Actually it does drop in the sand, lol, like it says, but it also says, "You reach down and pick it up.", so of course it's in your cursor. :-)

Just go to Dulak and /ooc PST if you see a deepwater emblem. I was PL'ing my cleric in the Courtyard and after about a half hour or so someone called a rot on Lady Di.

I tried to get the deepwater emblem off the trolls outside the fort in Gunthak. No luck after 4 hours. Then I went to Dulak to Stormweave boat. First dechand on Stormweave dropped the emblem. Back to Gunthak to the beach. Killed the placeholder for female 10 times with no luck. Was also killing the PH for the male at same time. No luck. Then a nice high level mage came by and told be about the third PH in the water under the boat in the middle of the beach. I killed that PH and the next time the female erudite spirit popped and I got Temp for my pocket cleric. So if you are not having luck try to kill the mob in the water under the wrecked boat in the middle of the beach.

Spawning
# Jan 12 2005 at 2:54 PM Rating: Default
OK here is the trick only kill the PH but you need to stand way back by the log otherwise she won't spawn. I just triggered her twice in 40 minutes both times. I have found out though that if the male PH is up yopu need to wait for him to despawn or kill him. Both Spirits cannot be up at the same time!

I just finished the turn in last night. I immediately killed the Skellie underwater on the Beached Boat near the Eastern Wall. Wandered around a bit killing Skellies on land. The Erudite Spirit had popped after about 40 minutes. Just to Clarify Both the Male and Female Version were up at the Same time. I would suggest killing the Skellie underwater, as that seemed to work for me.

Best of luck and get those temp spells.

Emblems drop randomly, not different on diff servers. Try any of the boats in Dulak's harbor. You can get 2 or 3 in one clearing of a boat, or clear the boat 8 times with no drop.

Quest for Temp
# Oct 01 2004 at 8:12 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest last night with my awesome guild "Blood Virtue". One of the guild leaders and my hubby's lvl 56 SK helped me earlier in the day to get the emblems and then later in the evening we went to camp for the female spirit only it was camped already. After they got temp they sent me a tell (i was bound there) so I gated and half our guild met on the beach & started killing skellies, etc. It took about 2 hours but the female spirit appeared exactly at the location -840 -675, as stated in another post and she pops as you face the side of the ship. She is all white and it was so eery but cool. Then I gave her the emblem ring and she gave me the spell. It did not drop on the ground as some posts have previously stated but was given to me. Also you don't have to hail her like I thought you just give her the emblem. It was awesome. Just the waiting on that beach is pretty boring. And the guy that wanted to camp the beach after we were done was only there like 10 minutes before she spawned again & he got his temp, boy was he happy. So guess you never know when she will spawn. It was about 9:3opm eastern time for me when she spawned. Thanks to my awesome guild for all their help at "Blood Virtue" on modern rasp server. HeartovGold Lvl 44 cleric

I'm not sure what pop's the spirit, but I am sure of this EVERYTIME I clear the beach helping some friends on the ranger and pally spell quest I come across the female spirit, she's at the same place everyday, ie: by the boat at the location given at the start of this thread.

I just took the wife out there to help her get the temp quest over with. Cleared the beach one time and POP there she is. Easy, easy, quest! Just stop over thinking this quest and just do it, no hidden tricks involved, no massive 60+ mobs, nothing to be worried about unless your taking a very low level in there.

Just my two cents worth, I hope it helps somebody.

Deepwater Emblem

I've found the Gnome "boat engineers" drop the "Deepwater Emblem" most frequently. They are typically located on the docks in Dulak's
