This is a wonderful quest to build faction with some of the denizens of Shadowhaven. It is relatively easy to complete since you can run invisibly between the questmasters if need be and should be very handy for saving up money for that new steed!

    STEP 1

The quest begins at Trade Commissioner Henry, adjacent to the warriors guild in Shadowhaven. Location -297, 392, -24, in the building by the bridge leading to Paludual Caverns.

You say, 'Hail, Trade Commissioner Henry'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'Hello there, traveler. I don't believe that I have seen you around these parts before- then again, I could have and simply forgotten since there have been so many new faces around here. However, if you are a newcomer to Shadowhaven, please make sure that you [register for trading] in the Haven. Registering with the Traders of the Haven will legitimize you in the eyes of local merchants and customers.

You say, 'I will register for trading'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'It's great that you are interested Ashwith, you will surely be glad you did. I have some simple deliveries that I need completed if you wish to be a registered trader in Shadowhaven.

    You say, 'What deliveries?'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'The deliveries are simple enough, I just need you to bring some letters to some merchants of the Haven that are currently working in other locations. Will you [deliver these letters]?

You say, 'I will deliver these letters'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'I surely do appreciate the help, Ashwith- clearly you understand the value of solid relations with the locals. First, I will need you to take this newsletter to Sateal. He is currently on assignment in the Bazaar and has been out of the loop on the happenings of Shadowhaven because of his heavy workload. Bring this to him and then return to me with his sales report. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Trade Commissioner Henry gives you a Tattered Newsletter.

    STEP 2

Hand the Tattered Newsletter to Sateal Deirosap who can be found in the middle of The Bazaar zone in the merchants' area. Location 0.5, 14.8,1.66.

Sateal Deirosap says 'Ah great, I have been meaning to go and pick one of these up from the Trade Commissioner but I have been very busy with my work. I'm sure Henry has been waiting for my sales report so here it is. Please return it to him for me if you could and thanks again!'

    You gain experience!!

Sateal Deirosap gives you a Sales Report.

    STEP 3

Return the Sales Report to Shadowhaven and hand it in to Trade Commissioner Henry.

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'Great to see you back so soon Ashwith, you looked like a dependable person from the start. The next thing I need you to do is a bit more dangerous, but by the looks of you I doubt it will be a problem. Go to the Shadowhaven outpost in Fungusgrove and give Thar this book. Thar is a great merchant but I have seen his sales steadily declining, so I figured this book full of selling tips will help him regain his confidence and help him produce the kinds of numbers I know he is capable of. If his economy report is ready please, bring that back to me when you return.'

    You gain party experience!!

Trade Commissioner Henry gives you a Book of Sales Secrets.

    STEP 4

You'll need to locate Thar Anton in the Fungus Grove outpost. Location -1317, -847, -272 in the second building on your left after you zone in from Echo Caverns. You can travel to Fungus Grove from Shadowhaven by going through the Echo Caverns. Thar Anton can be found on a raised platform about midway through the Fungus Grove outpost. He's wearing a white robe and sells basic provisions. For amusement purposes, I hailed him... as you can see, he's quite the confident salesman. *coughs*

    You say, 'Hail, Thar Anton'

Thar Anton says 'Hello there traveler. I have many wares for sale so please take a look at what I have. If you think all my goods are junk and wish to buy from someone else though I'll understand.

Hand the Book of Sales Secrets to Thar Anton in Fungus Grove.

Thar Anton says 'I see you have brought a book from the Commissioner. Well I'm not much for reading but I will surely try anything that may increase my sales. Anyways I'm sure you aren't that interested in how bad my sales are and would like to be on your way so here you go.'
Your faction standing with Traders of the Haven has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with House of Fordel has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with House of Midst has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with House of Stout has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!

Thar Anton gives you his Economy Report.

    STEP 5

Return the Economy Report to Trade Commissioner Henry back in Shadowhaven.

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'Excellent work Ashwith, I knew that you were someone that I could trust to get the job done. The trader's union of Shadowhaven will hear of your solid work ethic. Perhaps a courier job is in your future, I couldn't have expected anyone to make these deliveries as fast as you did! Please take this amulet as a symbol of your dedication to Shadowhaven's booming economy. While wearing this you are sure to get all the greatest deals from the merchants of the Haven both here and in the bazaar. It was a pleasure meeting, you and thanks for all of your help.'
Your faction standing with Traders of the Haven has been adjusted by 200.
Your faction standing with House of Fordel has been adjusted by 20.
Your faction standing with House of Midst has been adjusted by 20.
Your faction standing with House of Stout has been adjusted by 20.
    You gain experience!!

Trade Commissioner Henry gives you the Amulet of the Haven.

If you will registar with the Tradecommisioner and recieve the Amulet of the Haven, be sure to WEAR the Amulet when you sell, buy or do quests in the Shadowhaven.
Also for those that are trying to train here, if you can SNEAK and go BEHIND the trainer, they will train you.

I am a half elf druid, just about everywhere I went in SH I would get a message about being a half-elf and to GET OUT!!!!

I have done this quest once, and now they will sell to me, more importantly, they will buy from me. :o)

I may try this a couple more times to see if I can get better prices.

This one is easy and worth doing if you are having problems with traders in SH

did this with a friend the other day. He did it 3 or 4 times in about an hour; I only did it once. we were both playing rangers, me 33 and him 22. no sow (we didn't sow in bazaar) and no invis, and had no problems at all at any part. He did it by himself a bunch of times. Didn't get aggroed at all in echo or FG.

Disregard my sig, I haven't bothered to update it.

He is inside the center building in the bazaar lower level. Standing next to a (gnome?)vertically challenged npc.
Wish this quest was listed as a faction buster. As I hate the pulsating rock quest.. 14 rock and npc still do not like HIE. Ouch. Did this once with a Necro Human and no problem selling without necklace. HIE on 3rd quest still needs necklace. Go figure. They like evil classes but not the beautiful people..

I'm a barbarian shammy, and everyone was apprehensive to me. It says this quest takes an hour do do, I did it like 5 times in 45 mins and now some of the traders love me so much they want me to date their daughters.
You may have to do it a few times

As an Agnostic Dark-Elf I had to do this quest 3 times before I noticed any change when wearing the amulet: before I started the quest they were all Dubious; after doing the quest three times they were still Dubious, but become Apprehensive when I wear the amulet, and will now sell to me.

So if it doesn't work the first time, don't think it's broken - just do it again until you see a change.
To be honest, it's such an easy quest as long as you have invisiblity to get past the Boglings that doing it a few times is no hardship.

This was a quick easy quest for me as a 35th rank ranger. Did it in less than 30 minutes and my faction went from apprehensive to amiable. Prior to doing the quest, I couldn't be trained by the ranger trainer.

For people going through the secret entrance from Shadowhaven and into Echo Caverns for the first time, just be aware of the jelly fish looking creatures on the ceiling, walls, and floating in the slimy knee deep water in parts of the cavern beyond the doors. You can not con them but they can attack you if you get close to them!

    Good hunting!

I did this quest 7 times while leading groups of guildies through the quest. After the 7th time, I was Ally. I also noticed that even with the amulet buried in a backpack, the CHA boost is still shown on my character. When I remove the amulet from the bag and put it in the bank, then my CHA drops. Very cool that it doesn't need to be equipped.

First off, her are the factions in Shadowhaven:

Traders of the Haven: most of the vendors around the lower level on your right as you come from Bazaar excluding the stout area mentioned below. A couple vendors in the Midst and Fordel areas including most who sell luclin-release class spells.

House of Fordel: Most vendors from the Bazaar zone to the Paldal zone and everything on that level including the bank and the cleric/paladin guild. An exception is the Midst area mentioned below.

House of Midst: The int caster and monk area which is reached from a bridge behind the Fordel bank, this includes the Midst bank, and all NPCs from the bridge on excluding a few vendors on Traders faction in this area.

House of Stout: Behind the building with the wis caster guilds is a teleporter to/from Nexus, the soulbinder and the zones to Echo Caverns; The visible Echo Cavern zones is reached by passing through the Stout area which starts at the two short race guards that can be seen from the teleporter. Most everything in the stout area is on stout faction.

Haven Defenders: This is, as far as I've seen, all the guard type NPCs in Shadowhaven except a few short race guards on stout faction. These guards are intermixed in all of the House sections and throught the zone.

    ----------------------------------------
Now how to raise faction, I first tried running Steaon's Deliveries with Hardam's goods which is a slow but effortless way to raise faction. I suggest everyone do Traders of The Haven once, this will get you in good with the traders which is a crucial faction to shop in Shadowhaven. I've done the traders quest with a low 20s character with no sow or invisibility before so it can be done although having either of these will be helpful and knowing the way is good. The two delivery quests appear to give minor faction while the Traders quest doesn't even give faction until you go to Fungus Grove although running it once should get you to amiable with Traders (without having to wear the resulting amulet.)

    ----------------------------------------
For the best methods to raise faction you need invisibility or a higher level (40+?) character to get through some of the zones for these:

House of Fordel/Haven Defenders: With invis you can run Mistala's Report but grab a sow if you can, this gives access to most vendors that Traders missed including food/water. Mistala gives the quest and it can be finished at dubious. Took 9 trips to get from dubious to amiable, thats 18 faction hits since you get ome each way. My sow lasted 8 trips since I gated to Mistala each time so be prepared.

House of Midst: The Pulsating Rock for Midst faction, this is mainly useful to monks and int casters who want all the vendors and trainers in Midst area although monks can sneak and luclin release spells are sold by Traders vendors so this isn't vital to have for anyone, this quest too can be run at dubious. I bound at Palomidiar and ran invis into Paldal to get the lore rocks, then gated back. Of note casting (lesser) evac anywhere in Paldal takes you to the area where these spawn. The rocks ONLY come off Mud Burrowers, there are tons of spawns for these near Shadeweaver's with muck diggers as possible PHs. You can probably find enough rocks to hit amiable and never have to kill a muck digger PH. It took me 12 runs to hit amiable from dubious.

House of Stout: I'm going to guess that Mining Operations gives the big faction for this one though I haven't actually done it, the other way would be to do Hardam's Goods a WHOLE LOT of times (run Steaon too if you do this.) From reading Mining Operations I'm guessing that you could actually skip the Katta run part and do just the Shadowhaven/Paldal parts since the steps can be skipped ie give rations to Daesorak then simply say, 'I can return a letter to your wife.' and run back to Shadowhaven.

    ----------------------------------------
Quests like Hardam's goods and Steaon's Deliveries seem to give negligable faction hits of probably 1 point each while the quests like Mistala's Report or The Pulsating Rock and possibly Mining Operation obviously give a large faction adjustment. The amulet itself gives a minor adjustment to any of the Shadowhaven factions, about equal to one run from one of the big faction adjustment quests, so for an extra run of each of them you can ditch your amulet since it didn't raise me out of dubious until I had already done major faction work.

In summary, do Traders of the Haven once then chuck your amulet and do Mistala's report till she cons amiable and you will have good faction with anything important in SH, Stout is optional for anyone and Midst is only needed for int casters wanting a trainer since every other trainer is either on another faction or for a class who has sneak.

    Hello everyone,

Faction is very easy to get in Shadowhaven. Last night I was simply doing this one quest, I ran it 5 times with my iksar shadowknight and went from way apprehensive to dubious with the merchants (in particular, the merchant in room 6 according to eqatlas.com, which is my REAL test). Anyways, now that I'm at work I have time to research other quests that are simple enough to run along with this quest.

    Traders of the Haven
    +Traders of the Haven
    Steaon's Deliveries
    +Traders of the Haven
    Hardam's Goods
    +Traders of the Haven

All three of these quests involve getting an item from someone in Shadowhaven, and running it to someone in the Bazzar. In fact, doing the three of these at the same time, you could skip the part about bringing the book to the guy in Fungus Grove and save yourself a few extra zones (my computer at home takes a good two minutes to zone, so this is great).

I got the amulet last night, and it was "made better" by fixing the "faction modifier" so that it actually works.

My high-elf chanter is "apprehensive" to the House of Stout and "indifferent" to the House of Midst with the Amulet equipped but only "dubious" and "apprehensive", respectively, without. He's "amiable" to Traders of the Haven and House of Fordel with or without the amulet.

I haven't checked any of my other toons to see if the amulets that they got earlier work too or not.

This quest has definitely become much more useful.

    Quest is partially broken
    # Apr 02 2002 at 1:05 AM Rating: Default
First, I have successfully completed this with my wood elf ranger and my halfling druid. Tonight I tried to complete it with my human monk and while I have the necklace, my luclin trainer will not even speak to me STILL. I petitioned and was told that yes the quest is broken, Verant is aware of it, blah blah blah. I then followed that up and asked if this meant as a human monk that I did not have a trainer in luclin, and the guide told me yes, unless I could figure some other way to increase faction.

Nice little gift from Verant. Monthly price increase, charge for Luclin, and human monks don't have a trainer in Luclin. I know, new software always has bugs, but this one doesn't seem like it should be too hard to fix.

I just noted that someone down below said that some race/class combos have to repeat this quest multiple times. If that is the case, this is just downright silly by Verant. Perhaps if my human monk repeated the quest multiple times it would work. (Although I conned apprehensive to the human monk trainer who refused to talk to me.) Not sure and I don't plan on spending 3 hours trying to raise faction. If I could raise it by mutiple repeats I would assume the guide would have told me that.

Monks have sneak. Stand BEHIND your guild trainer with sneak on. This will make you indifferent to him, which should allow you to train there a as long as he does not turn around and look at you (in which case you'd have to get behind him again and repeat the process). I have done this more than once with my rogue at rogue trainers that didn't like my character.

There is a monk trainer in Katta Castellum. You can do a quest with Berloin(?)who is located in the library in the Midst Quarter. He asks you to seek out Dersino in Katta, while you are in Katta you can visit the monk trainer. I have a level 42 Human monk and was able to train having NOT completed any of the faction quests on Luclin. Hope this helps.

He is a vendor within the middle section standing next to a Gnome merchant. I'm sure I'd past him several times while looking until I paid attention to his name this time.
I thought that I might have been looking for someone just standing in the corner simlar to the other quest Gnomes.

He is correct and it can be done by a level one. I have coordinated my efforts so that I complete 2 quests while running this one. I also do Staeon's Deliveries (he is in one of the shops near the Soulbinder) while I run the Trade Commissioners quest. I took my level 1 halfling ranger to the moon to level him up there and thought I would stop and do faction quest real quick so I would have a place to sell stuff for good prices...well I am nearly level 5 with 45 mins of work and ally with Haven Traders and still working on the other 3 factions. Some race/class combos must do these quest alot (they can be repeated) before they can use the trainers located in ShadowHaven and Echo Caverns. My brothers Dwarven Paladin had to do it for 2 or more hours to use the Pally trainer in SH but it will eventually take you all the way to ally with all 4 factions if you desire.

I just finished this quest and it adjusted my faction with most merchants in SH from apprehensive to amiable. I'm an ogre warrior, BTW. Giving the book to That gave me better faction with Traders of the Haven and Houses of Fordel, Midst, and Stout. Was still apprehensive to merchants after that. Giving the report to Trade Comissioner Henry gave the same four faction messages, but I became amiable to him and a lot of traders.
    This isn't broken
    # Mar 09 2002 at 8:00 PM Rating: Decent
This quest isn't broken, and it's an excellent one. Worked great for my ranger last night. I've never been Ally to merchants before. It's going to do a lot for the price economy of my trade skill practice :-)

I won't go on at length because all the info you need about how the faction works is on Nytmare's post (18 December) if you scroll down a bit. Read it before complaining it doesn't work after 4 tries.

Basically, do it several times. The human merchants and trainers in northwest corner (i.e. where the spires are) are the first affected. Took three repetitions of quest to turn them from dubious to warm. The other NPC's are slower, but after 10 tries their faction started moving up from dubious through the ranks too (and the friendlier merchants were Ally by delivery 6). 15 times saw all the NPC's I had any reason to approach (and most of the others) at least amiable to me, and the trade stuff was all available from Ally ones. Good luck!

Yes this quest is broken. IF you choose to spend a few nights doing the quest OVER and OVER and OVER again, you will be able to deal with the merchants. The idea behind this quest however is to give you experience with working with the traders of shadow haven, as to be "priveliged". And one time through should be able to change their factions so youll be able to trade and train with the npcs there. Im a 20 ranger and i also find it absurd that i should be forced to sneak just to train Double Attack.

    This *is* broken.

First of all, getting above indifferent doesn't affect your prices.

Second, this quest is about registering for trading. It is absolutely idiotic that you would have to loop it to be able to buy and sell.

If Luclin didn't absolutely suck for me (insanely low framerates even with clip plane down), maybe I wouldn't mind the absurdity of registering for trading 15 times so that I can buy my mage spells without logging in my ranger to sneak.

Getting faction better than indifferent most certainly does affect prices - if your charisma is low enough. Ogre warriors aren't the most charismatic of characters, so that may be the case for him. ;-) If your CHA is high enough you'll already be getting the merchants' best prices at indifferent; in that case, raising faction will indeed not get you better prices.

sounds like there are deeper issues than the actual quest going on here... The quest isn't broke, the mind is.

Ok, I need "hep". I enter in from the shadowhaven secret entrance and I can't get to the merchants because of the wall. How do i get to the merchants? I also don't know the way from Shadowhaven to Fungus Grove through Echo Cavern because of another <explicative deleted> wall. So basically, that whole part of the zone for me is a dead end. sheesh. Please hep me.

You dont need to get to the trainers / merchants to do the quest. Way to Fungus Grove is a left turn when you enter the zone, not right, then through the double doors. Check out the EQAtlas map

I ran into this problem, too, with my SK. To get to the trainers and merchants in Echo Caverns, look to the left of the wall. There should be a little knob, outcrop of rock, or some dark-coloured thing. Click on it and that should open the door for you.

    Hope that helps.
