I am attempting to do the Beastmaster quest where I need the leather strips. I have been killing the young rockhoppers. I keep getting Young Rockhopper Hides but that is all. When I try to use these with the stone knife I was given, I get the message that I can't combine them in that container. Do I just need to continue hunting or am I doing something wrong?
Had my ranger hunting these for days and found the young rockhoppers are on the same spawn table as the scorpions (not the whiptail), the grimling runts, and the rhinobeetle hatchlings
Well i have been camping young rockhoppers now for a couple hours now and after 5 failed combines ( i am about to use all my point and put it all into tailoring), getting the young rockhoppers to spawn is no prob. I just cant et them to drop my hopper claw as much as i would like. I just camp on rock underneath north bridge and kill anything that happens through my 50 foot radius and the young rockhoppers spawn like crazy
Yes, just slay everything around north bridge on the crater and u will soon see a young rockhopper or two shaortly after, maybe they too young and scared to come out of hiding til u clear the area a lil bit?
i think EQ is nuts to have a rare drop of a rare creature be your very first quest i am now 10th lvl and still having to go back to the pit for a few hours each day to hopfully see a young rockhopper then if i see him and kill him i got to pray to the Gods that he has the stupid claw. also having to have 90 in tailoring to combine the claws together to make your first step in your newboe quest is also nutz. why did they make the kittys so hard to get started?
ok i ran the whole pit in a zig zag circle following the whole thing. did not see one younge rock hopper when to the loc given here no rockhoppers and yes i killed every thing i saw. i did thid for 3 hours and not once did they pop i even took my 36 lvl shaman in here just to see if i could get them to pop. can some one please post where they are at. or if needle thin claws will work.
Was hunting them to help a friend with the quest, found that the location given is good. However, none were seen when we arrived, so I started killing just scorpions. Shortly, there were a couple of young rockhoppers and a bunch of runts. Switched to killing everything that moved and within 30 mins, had 4 sets of 4 hides.
My suggestions is; go to just west of the north bridge and kill everything that moves, you will see the ones you need shortly. My guess is that they spawn about once per 8-10 kills. Good hunting.
I found the best spot for these guys in the pit that circles Shar Vahl. If you look at your map, it is the western most part of the map that I found them. They were really common, it was just one after another. I do not believe that there is a placeholder.
After wandinging around for quite some time, I have yet to find any of these bridges that the young rockhoppers are at. Do you mean something else, or did they just change the map. that, and as far as I can tell, the only way to get to that location would be to go into one of the three caves here, although which one, I don't know.

think I found the answer to my own question. I found a lot of a young rockhoppes at this location. Pos 902, pos 116. it's just west of the north bridge.
From the best that I can tell, the placeholder for the big scorpion and the young rock hopper is the same area. If you jump off at the south bridge and work you way clockwise, you will come to an luminated rock formation that looks like am umbrella. Continue running clockwise for another 30 seconds or so. You will come to an area where the walls of the pit are closer together, and contains 2 rock formations in the middle of the path. I found by standing on either rock formation and consistantly scanning the area, both scorpions and young rock hoppers are spawned. You will also notice just a little further up is where the needle clawed hoppers spawn. Thats the best that i can figure out right now.

I haved started a beastlord recently and dont know what to do with the hairless rock hopper hides. If anyone does know please post for others to find out
Everything in the pits acts as a placeholder, so to speak. There are X number of spawns in the pit at any given time. The young Rockhoppers are a timed spawn, but only by a matter of minutes. If during the time that they have been slain, beetles, worms, or scorpions spawn, and fill the zone to X capacity, some of the spawns must be killed to allow the Young Rockhoppers a "place". If they aren't spawning, kill a bunch of other critters, they will come back.
The Vah Shir Beastlord Claws is the quest that I know of that requires these. It is a long quest, but phase two requires that you have two young hopper claws that are No Drop.
well actually i tested this theory and its true.. the scorpion is a PH for the young rockhoppers. BUT. I had excellent results when i killed beetles as well.. sometimes triggering a wave of 3-4 rockhoppers a few moments after piling bodies at my feet
the only place that i have seen these spawn is in the pit around shar vahl... if someone else knows of another place to find them, please let me know... but for now, it seems that you have to kill everything around the two bridges and these things will spawn...but they are a random spawn.. might as well be an uber rare as it is.
Can someone please tell how to get these to spawn a little more frequently...I feel like I'm camping a level 3 rare spawn & it's ridiculous. I've seen 2 of them in the last hour....is their a PH?
I believe there is a placeholder for the Young Rockhoppers. What it is, i do not know. Best bet is to kill everything you see in the pit and hopefully some will spawn for you.
