I'm doing my beast Vah quest, and in three days we have not seen the sonic wolves at all, the grimlings took over camp near Shar Vahl zone line today, and its getting to be a deadly zone to me
I'm a level 30 Ranger and roleplay my char to the extent that I don't kill wolves or bears. In fact, I would recommend to everyone not killing wolves. They don't drop much worthwhile and it's nice not to have them jumping on as adds everywhere you go. My question is: Do these count as wolves? If I kill them, does it hurt my standing with regular wolves?
They are NOT factioned w/ wolves, and they are KOS to everyone ive ever met, so wack away. Also if they have taken over the Grim islands in the war. They can drop Shrieking Substance that is used in the Kittie tailoring Quest and to make shadowscream armor.
My level 28 iksar necro landed one spell out of seven on a blue-conning sonic wolf. With no mana and a half-chewed up pet, I did the usual: cast feign death and waited him out.
EXCEPT...after killing my pet, he aggro'd on me while I was still feigning death. I don't fight back well on my back, and I quickly died.
These things are pure evil for casters - they have the highest magic resistance of anything I've come across, and I've never had anything aggro on me while feigning death before.
Mez and da Bard was bashin dem... da hitz con from even (26) to yellow dem hits me from between 60-92 with 625ac and runs faster den bards quick foots song. day nasty now. Mez hits double hits 60+ dem is tuffs wolfs!
Saw one of these as I was going to Shar Vahl and it conned light blue to my lvl 40 SK. Hit him with Englufing Darkness and Heart Flutter and did him fairly quickly. Just wondering the level range noted here.
What happens if you are invis and don't move or speak? Do they still aggro? Animals in RL pick up your scent if they get close enough, but igore the immobile out of nose range. Maybe Sonic Wolves are made to mimic this behavior. Might work even w/o invis as long as you aren't low on life or sitting. (Enhanced aggro states.) Just a thought. --Alynxa, 12 Beastlord (She just got her hoppertails!)
They aggro to you regardless of whether you are still or moving. They hunt the same way bats do, by bouncing sound waves off their target and following the return signal. They (bats) can pick up sounds as faint as the heartbeat of a mouse with their sensitive ears, so unless your character can stop all their bodily functions, you'll get aggro. That's my theory, at least. :)

Warning! these things are tuff as heck if yer a cster do not attempt kiting you will die even with sow! they run nearly at sow speed(the ones that are named like the guardians or such run faster, these run at jboot speed), they hit hard, and are impossibly MR. they however have high resists, but the "you cnat cast on something 3 lvs above you or more" doesnt seem to apply on these as much as at any lv 20+ level they seem to have same resist rate. they hit for up to the mid 60s, and see all forms of invis. they count as animals, and my lv 23 paladin only saw reds on the normal wolves, pups and lings were blue. Do not kite these at all, unless U R a bard cuz they can run at higher than sow speed so outrunning these is cake but these guys resist root/snare/bonds of force or any speed reduction 7/10 times or so, as well as most dots and stuns. Only attempt these as a hybrid, as tanks cant kill them fast enough and casters get too many resists, dont try these as a ranger either theyll eat your low AC for lunch! they are NOT to be underestimated, and have a small aggro range (luckily) listen to the game when it sends you the aggro message!
Ok, I heard that there were mobs on Luclin that could run as fast or faster than SoW, and this confirms it. I was wondering why my snares weren't having the usual slowing effect when they tried to escape. :\

Hey All, Has anyone else noticed the Sonic Wolves have increased in strength since the last patch? They were hitting me in the 60's at some stages last night and have never done that before. Or maybe someone was buffing them for laughs?
I can also confirm that occasionally Sonic wolves can be up to lvl 28 (conned even to my necro 28 friend when we were grouping here).
Curfang is indeed a Sonic Wolf, not incredibly hard to kill, but can hit in the high 70's (I had around 600AC). I was able to solo him as a Beastlord at lvl 28.
I am a, how should I say this, a fraidy cat and a wimp. Now lately, my friend got a sweet weapon called Curfang's Torment. So I asked ppl if they had one and if I could buy it. Eventually, some guy said, (Note: This is an actual conversation. I'm ", the guys ') 'Curfang in Hollowshade drops it.'"No Duh! Why do u think I'm asking ppl here in the moor?"'Well, I don't have it. But many here do'"Are you brain dead or are u just pretending? NO DUH!!!"'Well, I think Curfang is some sort of Sonic Wolf or something' So my question is this: Can some1 tell me what Curfang is? If u have a pic, send it to: RandyRock@e-garfield.com Thnx Alot! Happy Hunting!
My young BL (16) has been sent out to find Sonic Pup Molars. Can anyone offer advise on where to find the pups? Is there a way to target pups, without attracting attention from their elders? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
k a lv 22 iskar monk with sow running from these guys in a full sprint and they were bashing on me like a ragg doll. never knew there was a super sow...... were can i get one like these guys??????
ive been hunting them with my 3o monk, and i ran into 2 guards that were tougher than the others. neadless to say i was at about 2 bubs of life when i stumbled upon them and didnt go to well they seemed to have like a super sow because i had sow on me when this happend and high tailed it outta there and the entire time i was being hit in a full sprint. thank god for the 5hp i barley had when i reached the guards..... basically running only seems to worsen the situation... hope this helps and safe hunting everyone.
i was just ******** off and saw one of these on track and it was dark blu and was fomidable to me at lvl 37 (druid) and it resisted 3 snares and one root and was hitting me for 60-70 hp a whack at a dead run in wolf form so they are very fast, very resistant and hit hard, needless to say i felt lucky to have been able to gate out, thank god he didnt interupt my gate. anyways thats all i can offer. WHEW the gate worked lol be safe and happy hunting
Went over to the sonic wolf caves after getting squat from the owlbears. Was looking for the perfect owlbear pelt; killed the whole cave (or my pet did, rather) and got squat. Anyways, these guys are pretty darned magic resistant. I actually had to tash these things for my slow spells (BTW I'm a 51 chanter) to stick. My pet was killing 'em ok but they would resist mez once or twice even after tash, which made it rough if I had 2 or so on my little animation. Didn't even want to think about charming lol. They even brought my HP down to about 60% cause they would resist my roots...
I know what you're thinking,"oh, boo-hoo, dumb chanter killing things 15 levels green," but at my level these things weren't a walk in the park, which was surprising.
Oh, and watch out, there's 2 sonic guardians at the entrance to the caves that aren't on the list. They seemed a little harder then the others, and just as magic resistant.
Been soloing them with my cleric (40) and I usually win with NO mana and 2 bars of health. They are mean and magic resistant. I'm trying to get shrieking substance from them but apparently its a very rare drop (1 so far in 50).
Okay, Shrieking substance is for a quest (obviously). It's the Vah Shir smithing quest that starts in Shar Val. First stages are making a shield, then carapace armour (you want to make a tunic to continue with the quest) and so on. You also have to get Swirling shadows from the Lesser Shades in Shadeweavers' thicket, then on to getting this stuff.
It makes Sonic disks, I believe, which are a one shot shield, or you can use them to make armour, which is the end target of the quest. Oddly, the armour isn't as good as Acrylia armour, not even Acrylia reinforced armour - or at least it wasn't the last time I checked.
But It'll get your smithing skills up into the 160's or higher.
these thing are lvs 24-26. I was hunting them with my 22 pally and i only saw one but it was red which means lv 25+ and it was doubling for a max of 53, the same as skelly monk in unrest whom have the same lv range. also, they are hardly immune to root, i was rooting them even though they are red, but i got some resists too. These guys run when at about a sixth hp and they are slight(but not extreme) undercons, i'd say they are a 1-2 level underconn so think of these as lvs 22-24 and thats that. also they see all forms of invis, camo, sneak, hide, etc. so watch out, as well as having a higher than normal resist rate to speed reduction spells such as root and bonds of force. thats all.
Guess again, bird.. .errr Owlbear brain. Duh they can't "see" invis, they're blind! However, they can, well, let's call it "hear" invis. Once as a lvl 12, a lvl 22 chanter had taken me through PC under invis and we were just about home safe when a sonic wolf detected me and shot like a flame towards me. Lucly the chanter mezzed it and we ran for mercy (Conned red to him) to Shar Vahl. Guards however had a hard time fighting the wolf, took them 1 whole minute. This leads to a debate on how powerful guards are.
Same story, only substitute Bard for chanter and me becoming dinner for wolves. Don't know what song she was bangin out, but nothing we ran over aggroed until this Wolf came charging in from the left. (She swears she wasn't trolling for wolves with Beastlord bait and was nice enough to drag my remains to the zone.) All this is fresh in my head as I now face the molar part of my Kati Sha quest. Think I'll level up on something nice till I get my 15 spells/warder. --Alynxa, 12 Beastlord (She just got her hoppertails!)
My 16th level BL grouped with another 16th level BL, and with pets we could solo these things one at a time. Send in both pets. Med and heal pet as needed till out of mana, then attack yourself. Works ever time. :)
Wiskers 17th level Beastlord (Master baker) (Working on Tailoring)
I went to drop one of these guys.. just playing around.. to see what they dropped if anything, and about half life, the beast turns tail and took off.. I went to snare him and it didnt stick. tried to chase him down, but he had came back with a few friends. and these guys were hitting pretty hard, needless to say, I had to turn tail and run myself. so no snare or root on these guys. best of luck.
At lvl 33 these guys are easy to solo for my monk (non twinked). They also seem to have a very slow regen. I can FD and bandage up and there life will remain the same. good hunting spot for soloers.
Some but not all of these are immune to root and snare... this includes the Druid epic dot. There is no discernable difference between the ones that can and cannot be snared/rooted. :(
Having Explored with my Cleric , I'll add a few comments....
From my experience these things are NOT immune but HIGHLY RESISTANT ... when I ran across these things I was getting Resist message not immune messages ... so something to consider ...
Hehehe as I see it , this zone had its resistances switched with the grey ....which the grey promptly got nerfed ... but the resists in this zone still have yet to be corrected...
