This spell rocks. I used to love quadding until I saw what this spell could do.
Three things that make this spell much more effective.
#1) MOST IMPORTANT: Always give pet sit command as soon as you charm or recharm a pet. This way when the charm breaks they are sitting at the spot of last kill giving you plenty of time to recharm vs. attacking you immediately. Makes you much more likely to live :)
#2) debuff with glamour of tunare before casting charm. It seems to really help duration of charm.
#3) Buff pet with Savage spirit. Turns pet in to a damage dealing monster.
I am a 56 druid with decent equipment. I was reading a post on EQ Druids saying how this one druid was charming either one of the lower Ravenous Beasts or a Spectral Wolf and using it as his pet to take out just about anything in the zone. I went there this morning near the DSP zone to try it. I would track a Ravenous Beast or Spec. Wolf, invis myself, hunt it down, but every time before I even got too close to it, I would get adds like crazy (Vampyre Bats, Gorangas, skellies and Mindcrawlers or whatever they are called). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to even get one of the wolves back to the DSP zone without getting so many adds so I can pull to there? I tried three times and nearly died each time from multiple hits and stuns from the above mentioned critters before I could get away and Egress. Also - the Vampyre Bats con indifferent when I am invis, but they seem to see through it anyway. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Well, I finally managed to get it down and charmed a Ravenous Beast without getting a ton of adds. If you turn to your right from the DSP zone-in and follow the zone edge to the south, it's relatively safe to go towards the south up high on the wall. You can sit up there and track a future pet and then run down and snare one when you are close. Then you can pull it back to the zone and make it your pet. You will still get lots of adds, but the pet can handle it if you Savage Spirit and DS it. I used the root-park method to keep adds at bay and had a great time killing lots of mobs FAST with my new pet. Can't wait to go back and do it again.
Make awesome pets, charm, savage spirit and ds, then sick em on whatever. I've taken 3 toilers at a time easily with these, with a little more practice it shouldn't be hard for me to kill nonstop..
Of all the beasts in ME, only the vampyre bat is less rewarding than the animal life (Spect. Wolf and the Rav. Beast) When pulling in this zone, these are the last mobs on my list to pull. The MR rate on the animals remains high to this day. Snares, panic Animal, and fears in general are tough to land on these hard hitting chaps. The drop rate is low for spells off of these, and other than the tattered pelts, I have seen no significant loot. Granted they will drop the occasional high level rune or page for you int. based researchers to make some spells, but hardly worth the mana spent in killing these animals of pain
was trying to get in a group in ME, saw this thing wandering not far from zone, memorized panic animal, cast, and... it works! thought it is an undead... spectral... hmm
took me forever to kill it tho, not worth the afford =D
