On a hunch, I went back to Erudin and hailed Gans. Here is what transpired, the beginnings of an as-yet-unreported quest:
[Begin in the upper floor of the Temple of Prexuz in Erudin]
'What brother?'
"What? How do you know of my brother? Ahh I assume Braza sent you. {Note: Braza stands next to Gans; she doesn't have anything to say on this matter. You have to initiate the quest with Gans.} He's been gone for quite some time with no word sent on his progress or his well being. I need to find someone to [check up on him.]"
'I will check up on him for you, Gans.'
"Thank you, adventurer. He's one of our people's most knowledgeable geologists and has left to survey an island out in Erud's Crossing. He was sending monthly reports until two weeks ago when his report never showed up. I'm worried something may have happened to him. Take this note to Yelesom and bring back something to assure us of his safety. A reward fitting a Deepwater Knight shall be yours upon your success."
Rolled-up note from Gans to Yelesom:
Brother, Your report is two weeks late. I fear something has harmed you and have sent this courier to inquire about your well being. Please send the courier back with message of your health and progress. Regards, Gans.
[Proceed to Erud's Crossing and give the note to Yelesom, who is sitting in the deep crater in the middle of the island.]
"Gans sent you to check on me did he? Well you can tell my dear brother that the surveying has been halted. One of the furballs has stonen my tools, making my job impossible. Kerrans, kobalds, gnolls, we're constantly under seige by these primatives. Anyway, perhaps you could [help me]?
'I will help you Yelesom.'
"Wonderful. The beast took my tool kit whilst I slept at camp. I awoke only to see him paddling frantically out into the ocean on a small boat. He couldn't have gone very far. If you stand at my [camp] and look towards the next closest head stone, you will be facing the direction inwhich the Kerran thief fled. Swim straight out from there and you should see his cunning little boat."
'Where is your camp?'
"My camp is next to the head stone on the eastern most portion of the island. The Kerran may have dropped some of the tools into the ocean as it fled. Please return the complete tool kit and I'll make sure my brother rewards you."
...
The dock is on the eastern-most part of the island. There are two head stones in the northeast corner, either of which could be the location of Yelesom's camp. There are no signs of habitation near either stone.
There are likely either 3-4 tools dropped in the ocean or on the boat (or possibly you must kill the kerran on the boat, if there is one, for one or more tools), or possibly more tools plus a "tool kit" combination container. The entire set must be returned to Yelesom for the reward.
This is as far in the quest as I have gotten. I did not want to venture out into the waters without stashing my gear in the bank.
I just noticed with the recent patch (which gave us The Warrens) that there is a new NPC in Erud's Crossing named Yelesom Paust.
He is a leather-clad Erudite, and his favorite spot is sitting halfway down the crater in the middle of the island. He occasionally stands up to buff himself (I saw him casting something with the same graphic as the druid Firefist and the Necromancer Grim Aura).
He was very red to my Prexus Magician, and he considered me "kindly."
Our chitchat:
"Hail Yelesom Paust."
"Ahh, salutations young adventurer. I'd love to chat, but I have much studying to do. Farewell."
Yeah, it's odd how some high lv npc have faction info, some of which is impossible to kill, or after you kill, you immediately kos to all those npc around guild hall...how do they find out the faction anyway?
You have got to be crazy to try to kill this guy. And if you do manage to kill him, it better be a total 180 faction swing cause you would have to contend with the whole guild in order to get this guy. lol
HEY...Read your note on killing ol yelesom who sits in the bottom of the crater On Erud's Crossing..me and a lvl 20 warrior killed him,and lowered our factions with Deep Water Knights, and High Council of Euridin..that mean I am KOS there now?(Lvl 16 Mag)..pls reply, asap!! sawbuck@iname.com
