As of the time of this post, 2024/03/30, on Mischief, the 'a ratman guard' spawned in the castle of the Keeper of the Tombs after 4 straight days of 10+ hour days, killing 'a ratman inhabitant', which are the PHs.
I heard about 4 different stories about this spawn, one of which was that it was broken and no longer spawned due to the implementation of later expansions and revamps, but this is not true. I was also told the guard can still spawn in the jail, and I won't say whether that's true or not, but I did spend 3 straight days of roughly the same amount of time per day before moving on to the castle and got absolutely nothing, but maybe it was like in the castle and 4 days is the charm. Who can say.
Just be very, very prepared for a very long camp if you plan on doing the entire epic.
I killed a ratman guard today and he dropped the Dusty Tome in classic era on Oakwynd. He spawned in his normal spot in the center of the ratman jail, with the same PH as Slizik the Mighty.
Since the an ratman inhabitant mobs don't exist on TLP's, where does this guy spawn from?
All you get from the dusty tome is 3 truespirit faction. So I just gave 1000p to the ogre again and handed it in for 3 additional truespirit faction so I can skip the dusty tome.
Made it several steps past this, so its confirmed you can skip.
I camped the 2 inhabitant walking outside the the keeper of the tomb castle for mnany hours. (one spawn close to the hidden wall leading to portals) the other one spawn at entrance of the hallway leading to the courtyard of the keeper of the tomb . None of these spawn changed to the Ratman guard.
Then I decided to camp to keeper of the tomb castle itself. I think there are about 3 spawn but don't know exact location. The inhabitants are patrolling inside. After about 6 inhabitant kills inside, I found a guard. See attached picture.
guess he can maybe spawn in place of any inhabitant, standing @ +16, +481, -346 looking at him, this is quite the distance from where i found him for my sk
I was able to kill this mob solo as a 60 monk using discs and FD at low health. I have a pre-nerf fungi staff and a fungi tunic to regen quicker while down. He doesn't regenerate hit points at all. Took me about 30 minutes to do.
I heard the Ratman's PH is a Ratman Inhabitant that walks around by the fountain before you head to the Keeper of tomes. Does anyone know where this guy actually spawns? ive been camping the area for a while killing Inhabitants and still no spawn
Just got him to spawn today. He Spawns in the castle where "keeper of the tombs" and "Ghost of Kindle" is on map. He regens very very slow... I Hope this helps. Just kill the mobs and ratman inhibitants in the castle to get him to spawn.

You DO NOT need to do any of these faction quests for your epic. When you do your turn ins, simply go invis or hide before the turn in. This is what I did - bring up the trade window, use hide skill, con to ensure I am indifferent, then trade. If you can't hide, get someone to throw an invis on you when you get the trade window up. Using this method you can cut out the entire first portion of the epic (do not need kurron ni, ratman guard, nor the cough elixir) But, if you want to do it just to say you did it, he is found around the area where you find the enchanter monster that drops the essence of ghost (Ghost of kindle maybe?! I forgot) Anyway, it's in the courtyard spot where 2 ghosts guard the tunnel down to that Wretched guy and the rooves of the buildings are full of gargoyles. Enter one of those buildings leading to the enchanter monster and the guard wonders around that area. And, yes, he is trackable.
You can also use a cloudy Potion which is an Insta Cast pot.

Aikido is invincible because it contends with nothing.
I fought down their otherday with my sk shammy duo on MT. Both were lvl65, best gear i have on either is some attenuable items, wasnt to bad made it all the way to kirn ran into him on the way was a bit long on fight but i got the tome.Just becareful watch adds,my sk has a little over 8k with virtue Fo7and self buff.
Killed this guy last night with two groups mid 50s to 60s. He was roaming in the not to far in the undead castle. Took us by total suprise, we went around a corner and there he was coming at us. He had the Dusty Tomb.
After the revamp of the Hole, into the Old ruins of Paineel, they moved this ******* to a new location.
We dropped him last night in the sublevel area at /loc -100,300 (subleveled from, and a bit south of where eqmaps says you'll find a mimic - you'll have to go in from the west side though).
He was roaming the west hallway. We took him out pretty easy with two groups of 58-62's and a 65 BST as MT. A couple of other inhibitants added during the fight, kinda unavoidable. They weren't to much trouble tho'. He dropped what he was supposed to drop - the dusty tome for my epic.
We just took this dude down tonight on our way to whoop The Ghost of Kindle (in its new spawn loc since revamp). It spawned at the top of the stairs going up to Kindle's room at loc about n90, p350. If you look on the eqatlas map, Kindle's room is on the second floor above the chests marked #11 and the stairs up is the winding section with 2 "U" turns in it south west of #11.
He could be a random spawn that has other ratman types as PHs (not positive though). We killed a ratman (not guard) in the same spot as it spawned probably 10 mins before the ratman guard popped.
I went to the jails to test my faction with caradon and i saw that the ratman guard was up killed him tonight with: 60 monk 60 shaman 54 bard 57 necro 53 SK 54 ench 52 cler 54 wiz 57 war the monk pulled it and the warrior was MA. has a lot of hp and resisted almost everything. resisted chanters slows and even my HT. got tash to stick. This mob hit pretty hard and there was lots of healing going on. The warrior was constantly getting healed..but no one died and we did it.
Do these guys attack brell worshippers?? i got a lvl 1 i use to pull peoples corpses out but ran near ratman and conned them as scowl but not sure if they attack or just con that way like the flighty fiends
I was in there today with a lvl 3 rogue and I was not attacked by anything no matter how close I got. I was in sneak/hide mode though, and the ratman guard was not up at the time. Was fun though.
The gargoyle, in the cave adjacent to Jaeil, owned my lvl 1 brell rogue halfling while he was in sneak mode. That's about as far as I've gotten with him.
If you make a halfling rogue of brell, if you use sneak/hide (and only if you use sneak/hide) .. you can pretty much walk through the entire zone untouched. The key is using sneak/hide. Some things will not attack you if you worship brell, even though they con scowls. The ratmen and the revenants WILL attack you if you are not using hide. So pretty much your best bet is to make a halfling rogue of brell, get a SoW from a druid or ranger, then zone in to the hole, and start hiding/sneaking from zone in. You can pretty much walk through the whole zone untouched so long as you don't drop sneak or hide.
Yes, they will attack Brell worshippers. My lvl 1 rogue got jumped by one during my first explorations. If it cons kos, it will attack you if you are in agro range. Flighty fiends, if they con kos, must just have a very low agro range, but I thought they werent kos. Anyway, the only safe way through this zone to Master Yael is sneak/hide. Just dump all your beginning points into agility. Who cares about a scout and body puller's stats anyway? Agility will help you go faster. Even with my lvl 1 sneak/hide it is not so bad with agility as high as possible at creation.
