All you have to do is killing the three "a wooly mammoth" which spawn around and between the wayfarer (LDoN) camp and the ice giant fort. They have variable spawn points it seems. The mammoth calves are on different spawn cycles with other mobs and don´t seem to be placeholders for the tainted wooly mammoth. A wooly mammoth does always spawn another wooly mammoth or the tainted wooly mammoth.
NOT! I zoned into EF, ran to LDoN camp. No tainted on track. Killed two regular mammoths. Ran a short distance and spied a tainted in the distance. Either they don't show up on track or it had literally just spawned. Two nukes, all over. 5 minutes start to finish and would have been even faster if I had remembered I could have travelled there quicker thru the LDoN camps.
I think they've made finding tainted mobs a LOT easier than "in the day." This is at least the 5th time I'm doing the druid epic for myself or helping a friend and I seem to remember some of these camps requiring literally days worth of camping. Of course when you're lower level and the mobs are actually dangerous it is a lot harder to clear them to encourage respawns.
I heard someone say this was the longest wait for the tainted/corrupted spawns for the druid epic. When i first read about my epic and trying to get these guys to spawn I happened to be in Everfrost farming spidlerlings for silk. I decided to head out and give it a try. I killed two or three mammoth calfs and litterally two minutes later there were two tainted up. I killed them both, two corrupted spawned. Killed and looted the chunk of tundra from one and sent a /ooc for the other. I figured that if all of them were this easy I would have my epic by the end of the week. Turns out I got what was coming to me, camping the tainted aquagoblins for five hours, and the brownies for two more.
I know this isn't very helpful but i thought i would share my experience and lend support the crazy randomness these spawns seem to have
It was blue to me..With my shammy 28 just 4 frost spells casted and it was already under 20 % hp.Then i just run after him and hit... The Corrupted spawned automatically after the death of tainted and i run into the Permafrost cave tunnel..He did not come after me and i filled my mana...As i came out he was there again..Just run then casted frost spell ..then again and again..I attacked with melee as he had rest 35 % HP and it was easy..Did a few times.. Good exp bad loot Chunk of Tundra :>(((
I am a 24 Warrior, and these generally con yellow to me. When you kill them, they automatically spawn a corrupted wooly mammoth, which cons red to me. I solo here with Temp and a few shammy buffs and I have no problems. A group of 20ish players with buffs should be able to take them down. The loot ain't great on either of them, but the exp alone is worth it, in my opinion.
I dinged 27 with my Cleric last night and these now con yellow to me. We did see 2 of these roaming last night too. My 25 Shaman mate and I can take one with no problem now. The corrupted are dark red to me and are avoided. Never had a chance to loot a tainted so I don't know what loot they have on them.
Don't bother with the corrupted for loot, you'd get more of a cyclops, more than likely all you will find is a 'chunk of tundra' which is part of the Druid Epic so unless there is a druid in the area and you don't mind being friendly and leaving that for them, the corrupted is only good for exp.
Sounds like it would be best for you to stick to the tainted until they turn blue then maybe hunt in greener pasture ....pun intended =)
yes those are the collors of the mamys i hunt. very few every are red, except the corrupt and he is always red, i am 24 and have hunted them for 2 lvls now and never were they consistant ly red, except that dang corrupt who loves to kill me ehehehheheheh
Conned even to red to a 25. I have hunted mammoths since 19 so I am sure the tainted low is 25. Take him and the corrupt constant. Easy kills for a druid and a Tank.
I have hunted the mammoths in everfrost for over a month now, daily. Many high level characters come into everfrost and kill all the mammoths and mammoth calves . They say they are doing this because they think it speeds up the rate of spawning of the tainted mammoth. I have not observed this making any difference other than taking away the opportunity for those of us that get xp and mammoth tusks from the other ones. The tainted ones have spawned when all the mammoths are on screen. Usuallly there can be 6 or more of the full grown mammoths on at a time. Sometimes the tainted one spawns twice in the same area and time. It usually spawns every hour and a half no matter what. There does not appear to be a placeholder. So please if you are a higher level doing this for a quest dont kill all the other ones that other people need for experience.
This is the flip side to the problem of people doing this for their epic. You have to kill mammoths to get the Tainted to spawn. If lower level toons would just leave the Tainted / Corrupted alone the high level toons would not be killing green mobs for hour and no xp.
This is exactly right, I also have hunted them for a week or two and am constantly tracking so I know when things are up pretty well. The tainted ones spawn at the same time interval during the peak hours when the regular mammoths are being killed within 10 seconds of their spawn and in the middle of the night when they stay up for 10 minutes or so.
My husband found this while looking for wooly mammoths for his shaman quest's rib bone. It was blue to me at 34, and immediately after its death, a corrupted wooly mammoth spawned on top of it, which was also blue at 34 and dropped a "Chunk of Tundra"
