this little rat is the placeholder for Tovax Vmar, the necro who wanders the zone and kills newbie clerics and paladins and anyone else who hails him.

i've seen Scruffy and Tovax up at the same time =p scruffy also walks past the guard tower then despawns..so if you wanna kill him beat him there =p

Apparently in addition to being the first mob in the game, the guards have adopted Scruffy as a pet and if they see you attack him, they WILL aggro. I learned this the hard way many times. I now look around for a long distance before tackling Scruffy with any of my newb characters. Also, to the person who got the rat foot Lore Item, it is not a quest thing. There is a half elf merchant who hangs around near the gypsy tents or sometimes by the docks in South Qeynos that can make you a lucky rat foot necklace if you bring him one rat foot and pay him some money. Worthless item. Sell the rat foot for whatever you can get for it (probably not more than 3 silver at best).
Ahhh, did I miss something? You just described a quest dude.

The reasons Scruffy is there is because it was the first MOB put into EQ! The First! #1, numero uno. Sentimental value...Kinda like my staff which, although doesn't do anything, looks like Bargrins Staff.

Since the last patch, Scruffy has been updated. HE knows dual wields lamentations (I know, I looted them). He quad hits for 1250, kicks for 900, and drops an AoE for 1200 points. He also bashes, slams, and dragon kicks. It took an entire uber guild on Marr to take him down. He dropped 14,000 plat, a wand of the slayer (procs 'Kill Target'), and a hammer (20/20, procs 'Hindsight').

I got the whole joke thing...I bet it got a couple of newbs out there stalking poor Scruffy for a while...A rat with dual wield lammys, monk skills, 500+ pounds of plat, and level 60 necro DOT spells...and a 20/20 hammer? That's a little too much..

me(60 monk with celestial fistd and my uber guild(Shadow of the Cows, Terris Sullon Luclin T'Vyl Ro,) of 2500000 people did a raid on scruffy, and man is this guy tough! we sent out our necros, enchanters, wizards and mages to tank, and our monks(myself included), rogues, and warriors were casting to the best of their ability.Our shadowknights were harm-touching themselves(err...no.),paladins using Lay hands on scruffy to the best of their ability, and our rangers kept tracking him(you know, in case he gets lost!). Ou druids, shammies and clerics were drinking a LOT of lendel's grand lager and honey meads, and healing and buffing scruffy, yet we STILL could not beat him, possibly because we didn't use those shamans right and should've used them to be fashion models so we could walk right in and blow scruffy away with our stylishness. I was the only guy left, and I accidentally hit poor scruffy and killed him. He dropped 350mpp,and the "DEATH TO THE BAD FEET!" weapon, 999999999dmg 1dly, procs stun, root, 2500000dd, dot wih 60000 per tick, lasting until the enemy dies, +3000 all stats, +44565534 to all sv, 36644664334 to ac. pretty dumb loot for such a tough mob.

(This is the same guy who made the above post) Scruffy is a level 75 who has all stats maxed, max hp, mana, AC, and atk. He can cast any spell, and resist is impossible, the spell ALWAYS hits for full damage. He has dual wield and double attack that never fail, so he always gets 4 attacks a turn. Each attack does 2000+ damage, and his claws (his weapons) have a delay factor of 1. He has all the buffs in the game it is possible to have. Whenever he casts a spell, the spell is treated as though the casting time were .000001, so he can get off about 3000000 spells for each time the average person can swing their weapon. His buffs never wear off, but if one is dispelled he immediately recasts upon himself, as well as casting a DoT on the caster that poisons, diseases, stuns, fears, and charms them, along with doing 1200k per tick. The spell lasts as many ticks as Scruffy wants, which is usually an awful long time. Scruffy can see any kind of invisibility. BTW, ignore the fact that Scruffy cons green, he is a HUGE undercon! Finally, Scruffy is KoS to anyone who doesn't have at least 7 X's in their name, and has an agro range of 187.39402 miles. If Scruffy is killed, he respawns again after 3.06 seconds at a random location in Qeynos Hills up to 1.47 inches away from his point of death. I hear he drops rat whiskers and sometimes rat fur, if you're lucky, so it's well worth the effort! And BTW, if you're wondering why Scruffy is so strong, it's cause he was the first NPC Verant put in the game so they decided to make him extra-special. Good luck with this incredibly powerful enemy!

LOLOL that's funny! I wish there was a weapon like that. It should also proc Rune 5, 100% haste (making it 999999999dmg and .5dly) and an AoE DoT that does 400k per tick to everyone within a twelve mile radius, and it gives 150k ticks before it wears off. Oh, and BTW, all the above procs proc with EVERY successful or unsuccessful hit, and they proc starting at level 1. It would also have a proc that tripled all the stat, save, and AC bonuses, and this proc would last 4893849373947 minutes. Another proc would give you a 400000 HP bonus and a regen spell that heals 100mil per tick and lasts 373892758329 minutes. And if you give this weapon to Marton Sayer, along with the orphaned son of the dear departed (nerfed) Lord Elgnub, then you will be given...

I'm from the good ol' beta days.. and they made qeynos and qeynos hills at the same time.. anyone ever noticed qeynos backwards is sonyeq ('sony' 'eq' )? Oh well.. all I know is.. Scruffy was the first one.. :) Good day

To add more data on the Beta 1 if you zone into SFG you will notice the zone file name is QRG or qeynos ranger guild. Add the first zones had these adbv. South Karana, qeynos Hills, Qeynos sewers. this is just old stuff from pre beta. Scruffy was the test mob used for hail, (if you do he used to squeek), attack and loot features.

I was camping for Tovax and his pet one night and noticed something. As a previous post said, I also agree that Scruffy must be some type of placeholder for Tovax. They both spawn at exactly the same place, and follow the same path. Spawn point is at a yellow topped tree right behind the tower. There is a big patch of rock ground next to the tree that tovax seems to stop at to summon his pet. He then continues toward qeynos near the wall and stops again, as if looking for sometihing. Then, he continues away from qeynos around the other side of the big hill that he spawns near. Scruffy follows the same path. I've been camping Tovax for his pet because it always seems to drop a bunch of loot. I have looted anywhere from 130 silver to 130 gold, and have heard of other looting even more. I am a 19th level wizard, and was camping him for some easy money to buy a couple spells. I would root, and then run a little ways away and wait for him to summon another pet, kill it, repeat. Anyway, just an FYI for anyone interested in Tovax.

I want to know what server you get Tovax pet to drop loot on. I camp him on at least a dozen servers and his pet hasn't dropped a single cp. I heard he once dropped mega loot but it was nerfed long ago. When did you last get loot from it? I always knew Tovax pet was special, because usually when a pet dies, it vanishes and does not leave a lootable corpse. Tovax pet is the only one I have ever seen do this, so something must have been there once.

Is there any possibility (all joking aside people) that Scruffy is in some way a PH for Tovax? Think about it - give an extremely weak creature a name - its like waving a red cape in front of a bull! So you whack the little rodent, and then Tovax shows up after a while. It is like the bixes that are the PH's for the griffin in East Commonlands. They're jokes - they do no damage and a few good whacks kill 'em. But then after a bit the griff shows.
I'm trying to see if this is true - me and a friend have a mad case of revenge on Tovax. We're barbarians and at fifth level we barely made the run from Halas to Qeynos Hills alive and he jumped both of us in the dark and slaughtered us. We want payback!!!

The only creature in EverQuest that would die only from damage by Thorny Barrier... can KillSteal, solo a level 35 character, and one that really surprised me was the one about it sending /auctions... what is the big deal? It's Scruffy. That's it, just plain Scruffy. I mean come on people. To be honest whoever lost to Scruffy (regardless of level) I would like to know your character name so I can mercilessly taunt and tease you for the rest of your Questing days.
