The PH is a gnoll near the snake pit that despawns frequently. Let it despawn a few times until Lord spawns.

Okay. The spawn point is mentioned, it is in the snake pit, There is a gnoll that spawns and despawns periodically that is the PH for Lord Elgnub. The key is to set your computer up to really loud speakers and set an autotrigger for Lord Elgnub. Then just sit somewhere nearby where you won't catch any aggros. He buffs himself as soon as he spawns, so once he spawns and casts the autotrigger will sound. I had it wake me up from a dead sleep one night to get mine stolen little baby! Good luck. It is a crappy spawn rate now. They really boned anyone looking to do this quest when they made changes. In my opinion, they never should have made any changes to these orignal zones. They messed up Blackburrow in many ways from the glorious zone it once was. TRAIN!!! On.
Finally!

I've camped this guy in the past, but I think they did something at some point that dragged out his spawn time. I sat for 7 hours waiting for him to spawn. I know a lot of people have sat for longer, but 7 hours is just broken. And no, talking to Marton Sayer before you go into BB does not do a damn thing to make him spawn.

It took me 4 days of having audio trigger at Max volume while I slept and boxed other toons for this fool to spawn. The Gnoll by the door that spawns and despawns at a fairly quick rate IS the PH for him. The only difference between killing it and not killing it is the rate in which respawn occurs, you get more PHs per time if you let it cye without killing it. It was a long wait, but this guy does spawn. He DOES cast self buffs so audiotrigger will sound once he spawns and casts. Occasionally an Elite will spawn in his place... Don't get excited... It doesn't mean anything.

Killed 25+ spawn cycles of snakes in the spike pit. Nothing. Did the patrolling and the single gnoll that spawns in the spike pit as well.

I then noticed that the a_gnoll that stands at the door next to the supposed PH snake depops every 2 min. (Once in 10 times he depopped and spawned in 3 min 50 sec later) every other time it was 2 min on the nose. When he repopped, I saw him repop as an elite... I had killed 25+ cycles and it was always an a_gnoll. I leave it up for 2 min and the very next pop is an elite? Odd.

I decided to just let him depop and repop instead of killing him. 7 pops later he popped as Lord Elgnub.

I dont think the snakes are relevant, its just that that gnoll spot depawns/respawns on its own. Whether letting it respawn helps chances? Sure seemed like it, but hard to say.

I killed everything around that area, but nothing.
I then tried your way and it seemed to help.
A few repops of the "a gnoll" and Lord Elgnub showed up. Smiley: grin

Found the eye and book needed in South k so went to Black Burrow for the baby. I think it is correct the Gnoll Patroller is the place holder. He spawned 3 times for me but missed him the first 2 times because I was up in the alcove. That use to be his spawn place back when. He did despawned just a few seconds after he spawned. The 3rd time I stayed in the pit where the snakes and the spikes are. Killed the patroller every time he ran by. Elgnum spawned right in the pit. I also noticed that he spawned around midnight to 1 am game time all three times.

I believe this mob to be some kind of surreptitious salute to the song 'Mr. Nice Guy' by Mr. Bungle.

May God have mercy on your souls.

The 2 snakes in the pit are not Phers. The Ph is "a patrolling gnoll". 2 of them wander the area but the one that travels through the pit is the correct one. Elgnub will spawn inside the alcove in front of the door at (+196, +158, -56). So sit in the alcove so he attacks when he spawns. If the "a patrolling gnoll" wanders by instead, kill it and wait another 7 minutes and 35 seconds. Good luck. No need to see they Sayers, they do not trigger it. Just a plain old PH. I sat a second toon at the mayers doing nothing but watching to see if anyone came by. No one spoke to them or was near them during the 3 times Elgnub spanwed for me. Waste your time running back and forth if you wish but there are not connected. Try it, open a 2nd free account and sit someone there yourself.

INCORRECT. Keep killing the snakes in the pit and Elgnub will spawn. I just did it about an hour ago and didn't kill a single gnoll that passed through the pit. The snakes in the pit have ALWAYS been the placeholders going back to 1999.

OK, just did it for the SECOND time today. Ran straight down to snake pit, killed nothing but snakes and ignored any gnolls that came by and Elgnub popped for me a second time and zone was empty so it wasn't killed anybody else, either. I can do it a third time if you like, but SNAKES are the placeholder, just like they always have been.

I was in BB trying to figure out the brewer spawn and had track on normal. POP and a Bue Lord E was on track. followed through back halls and untilately to the snake pit with the floor spikes. killed him and looted the doll. Location was 194, 143, and memory served to say it had to be one of the snakes that was his PH. Below in other posts, my experience confirms the spawn point as that snake at that location.

I know kegcleaner's post is almost a year-and-a-half old, but I'd like to correct it anyway for the benefit of others that may come along.

Unless things have changed dramatically in the low-level Blackburrow, Lord Elgnub's ONLY placeholder is the snake nearest the door in the pit.

Whether he spawns spontaneously without killing anything (I've never waited that long) or spawns after killing the snake by the door, he WILL replace that snake. I've killed many things in many parts of BB, including the wandering Patrolling Gnoll, and have never seen Elgnub spawn anywhere but in place of the snake nearest the door in the pit, though it does take awile, at least in all of my experiences.

Just got done killing him with my 27 bard. I simply went to the loc 207, 140 and waited until 10 PM game time. He was a few seconds late but he is there. He pops inside the snake pit and fell very quickly.

Spawned at approx 190, 128 (Snake Pit with spikes) at 10PM Game Time.

Level 23 Pally had np with him. No harm touch, but he did fear me.
Spawn
# Feb 11 2005 at 2:59 PM Rating: Excellent
He is not triggered by talking to Sayer or killing snakes or anything like that. He just spawns there no matter what you do. From what I saw its about an hour on respawn but it varies some. He does despawn if you miss him but its not an superfast despawn like the little mole in Kurns tower. If you have tracking as long as you hang out between the two commander rooms and see him on track you can usually get to the spike pit in time. He spawns in the middle of the pit and then roams up the ramp a little then despawns. If you want to catch him before he self buffs then jus wait in the spike pit and he will pop about in the center of the pit. With the upgrade for this wpn now easier being that the mob was moved outside of the dungeon everyone should do it also. Its a fun sword to click and have a pet for the non-pet classes.

How to make Elgnub soawn!
# Oct 25 2004 at 7:13 AM Rating: Decent
Ok to make Lord Elgnub spawn you must kill rooms full of stuff around him.Kill the snakes by the ladder, and should spawn in no time. But be careful cause he is an sk and will HT at the very start of the battle and other gnolls will attack if in agro range.

Hope this helps.

I know I spelled (spawn) wrong.
