Have been working for weeks trying to get Cutter and Scourgetail. While killing mobs around the Scourgetail spawn point (853, 151, -37), Cutter popped in front of me at (806, 391, 46) in the sandy area surrounded by trees a little off from the grassy area. Haven't seen any spawn points for Cutter noted before so take this is at least one of them.

TL;DR - Cutter (and PH) spawn in a rectangle bounded by the second ramp south of Kurn's, east to the zone wall, north to the cubby, then west to the field north of Kurn's. Spawn time is 5:00-5:30. Scourgetail Scorpion PH has same respawn and spawn area overlaps Cutter PH, but when Cutter PH spawns it immediately paths North (and/or west). SS PH immediately paths south.

Below is the long version with lots of (too much?) detail.

Assumptions

* As reported by others, the Burynai Cutter is on a 5 minute respawn (as are the other named) and all other trash is instant respawn.
* There is only a single placeholder for Burynai Cutter
* Each named is a separate PH (e.g., every named could theoretically be up at the same time)
* Pivotal assumption :: I was tracking the right PH. Since I never got the Cutter to spawn, if one of the above assumptions is wrong, then I may have been tracking a worthless NPC all day that had no chance of spawning as the Cutter. That would make me sad, so I assume that didn't happen.

Edit - Another 20-30 PH and finally got Burynai Cutter, so the above assumptions all appear to be correct

Findings

The actual respawn is slightly above 5 minutes. I set my stopwatch to 5 minutes and it would take up to 30 seconds after the alarm went off before the PH appeared on track. To isolate the Placeholders, I gathered every spawn in the field between Kaesora and the norther coast, pulled them together and killed them with a single PBAE. I had to do this mutliple times as I occasionally lost track of the PH due to other people killing in the area, but each time, it successfully allowed me to identify one to three mobs on 5 minute timers.

I parked both a Bard and Druid at the corner of the wall that juts out due NE of Kurn's tower. This allowed me to track more accurately as I could isolate the differences between repops and NPCs roaming in and out of track range due to the different tracking ranges. The southern most PHs were out of range of Bard track, but in range of Druid track. Parking here also allowed me to largely avoid respawns in "the pit" from lower level groups killing there.

For a dozen or so spawns, I was tracking 3 separate mobs on the 5 min respawn timer, pulling all together and AE'ing them down each time so they spawned simultaneously. Doing this made it easy to identify one PH (Iksar Dakoit) because of his consistent spawn and pathing, and after however many spawns, the Scourgetail Scorpion popped, so I was able to isolate a single PH as the Burynai Cutter.

From there I tracked 68 spawns (that I wrote down, there were some I forgot to write down) and at some point I even started using Highsun to record the spawn loc of each PH.

Possible Placeholders

Here's what I recorded, note this may not be all of them. But I can say for certainty, that it's only the higher range of mobs that can spawn as PH. E.g., it can be "a scaled wolf stalker" or "hunter", but not just "a scaled wolf"

* a bonebinder - 9x
* a greater scalebone - 11x
* a scaled wolf stalker - 13x
* an emerald fencer - 13x
* an iksar marauder - 4x
* a heartsting scorpion - 9x
* an iksar brigand - 2x
* a greater skeleton - 3x
* a scaled wolf hunter - 3x
* a burynai excavator - 1x

Note the absence of some common roamers in the area: an iksar manslayer, a rogue shaman, a lesser charbone skeleton, a lesser icebone skeleton, a burynai sapper and a burynai burrower. While it's possible any of those can be placeholders, they certainly aren't common.

Spawn Info

At the bottom of this post are the locations I identified if you want to add them to your map file. They're pretty scattered and can range anywhere from two ramps south of Kurn's, east from there to the zone wall, north to the little cubby, then back west to an area just north of Kurn's forming a pretty well-defined rectangle.

EVERY SINGLE TIME that the PH spawned, it started pathing towards the northern shore immediately. If a PH spawns and starts pathing south, that's the Scourgetail Scorpion PH, he roams all the way down past Kaesora.

Map Info

A few times I followed the PH and got locations where the paused up in the north, those are the map coordinates labelled "Cutter roams here" and may be a good place to isolate the PH if you can't AE since fewer mobs roam that far north.

After I got the Scourgetail Scorpion to pop, I Highsunned him to find his spawn spot (though I'm sure it varies) and stopped tracking that PH, so I didn't record any spawn info for him, but the one spot he spawned is in the list below.

After many hours of trying mass slaughter I came across this post! It is nearly spot on. I found the timer to be 4:50 (as someone else posted) only edit is that I did see "a burynai burrower" a few times on the cycle as well, but far less common. I will also note I did have 2 of the spawns actually path south on spawn, but all the rest did path north/northwest. I didn't follow the pathing long enough to see if they would would turn around. Took me a while to get him to pop. Took me well over 100 PH's to get him to pop. Next stop Scourgetail and Queen.

Ngreth posted in response to a bug report that Burynai Cutter wasn't spawning... https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/burynai-cutter.270200/

Copying his response here in case that link goes away

1% on ONE (relatively fast respawning) zcd :(
Not a Bug (though annoying)

Interpreting that... he has one PH he can spawn from, and only a 1% chance to spawn. Based on other users' experience, it seems the named PH in FoB are either ~5min or ~10min respawn.

Extrapolating based on similar rarity for all the "rare"s in the zone, they're all probably 1% spawn chance from their PH.

I just killed him on Phinney and got the anklet. As kirbyramz said below: "He was just north of Kurns where they walk back and forth east-west."

Location of Cutter

I was farming spider silks with my 46 druid and also taking out the sappers when the Cutter popped yesterday. He was just north of Kurns where they walk back and forth east-west. A couple other ppl were sitting at the base of kurns watchin the traffic when I saw him when I was beating on a bonebinder. Killed him and got the anklet. I only ever killed him once before, but then again, I also killed the Iksar Dakoit and got his coinpurse. So I guess I was lucky.
Cutter

Rare spawn, PH Sapper, wandering mob can be anywhere from the ocean where the desert and trees meet all the way to near the kaesora ruins usually along the tree lines unless some moron pulled him off that and it never got back to it's normal pathing. I've killed him 4 times. the Anklet is his common drop gloves are rare I still havn't got them. The anklet is a very nice item when you think about it. and on my server I've sold them for 2k... So... Yea

I've been seeing the sappers spawn at the edge of the woods on top of a hill. Stand from the base of Kurn's ramp turn left 45 degrees, head straight out and it spawns right at the top of the densly tree covered area beside a tree. They also seem to travel primarily in the ditch by the woods just out of visual range where the skellies walk at night along Kurn's tower. But I've killed every single one of those and no Cutter.

I assume it's that little capitialization issue with Burynai sapper being a reg mob and Burunai Sapper being the rare spawn PH. Gods know there are the obvious differences inside Kurn's but it's harder to tell outside

Can anyone confirm that difference?

what is this guys spawn time
hehe, i know where he pops
# Jun 17 2002 at 4:04 PM Rating: Decent
he pops in the forested area near kurns tower. If you go to the entrance ramp to kurns tower and look in the direction as if you were coming down the ramp there is a line of trees/forest that you will see. Facing this direction you need to look left. Where the treeline ends there is an area that goes back further into the trees. There is a wall of stone back there that looks to be ruined. near here is where he spawns. I've killed him many times but havent gotten anything but runes from him. Am going back to kill him soon, I want everything he drops

If your careful and make sure once it's rooted & dotted you don't stay in that spot or pull it to a safer less traveled area say over against the tower to kill him otherwise odds are you'll be get hit by the skellies and scorps as well and that can become deadly if the cutter breaks and is still going strong and you got a lesser icebone on yah.

As with any kiting in FOB it's aggroing you have to worry about, as long as your careful you can take it out. However you might want to wait until lvl 24 when you get a new root and DOT spell to increase your chances, cause the ones you have now as a 22 it will break cast off pretty quick

Yesterday afternoon me and some guildies were playing in unrest, I got killed but was bound to FoB. While waiting for my guild mate to rezz me...I decided to c what was up in FoB. So me being a druid i tracked. ATM i was at the top of the kurns ramp. Scrolling down the list i saw him...THE BURYANNI CUTTER. I got my rezz gated back with high level cleic buffs, when i started combat i realized i was oom. Melee fight, druid vs. mole each hitting each other for 41dmg. IN the end i won and got the anklet. Gonna go after the gloves now

Where not when

Most of the Burynai in the FoB are everything but cutters. I have been in FoB for 2 days looking for the Carrion Queen (to no avail). I have seen more than just a few Burynai Cutters near Kurn's Tower. If you face the ramp and look to the right there are occasionally some Burynai over there. More often they are inside the pit. I have killed every Burynai that I have seen with nothing but crap drop. If you want the Burynai Hide equipment it is said to drop from the skellies inside Kurn's tower. Not too sure on that though. Will find out later cause I want the boots. Another place to find the cutters is inside Kurn's Tower in the basement/tunnels. Happy Hunting.
