For the wood elf spellcasters who need these, quite often I have seen the merchants in Felwithe selling these, usually the fish merchants towards the back of the city. Saves a long trip on the boat.
These things are very good exp to kill. As a necro, I killed these things and got really good exp. And it was easy to run from them if you get in trouble because they are very slow. Also, you can collect the fire beetle eyes and turn them in for exp also....
Well, I created my new Wood Elf Druid and excitedly bought my lvl 1 DOT (Flame Lick). . . only to find I need one of these little puppies. NP, these things drop on lvl 2 mobs. I'll just have my newbie char look around my gfay newbie zone for one of them to kill . . . DOH! What do you mean they don't drop anywhere on FAYDWER?!? Boat?!? I have to take a boat?!? But you do realize I'm only lvl 2 . . . . I have to wait how long for the boat?!?!? *groan*. Ok, can some kind soul sow me? It would seems I have some traveling to do and an evening to kill . . . .
In other words, if anyone has any tips for the easiest/quickest way for a Wood Elf Druid to procure one of these (aside from begging - I hate beggers), by all means post them.
The eyes were a staple for my newbie magician, since they are one of the few regularly found items that sell for more than coppers. I was even pouncing on these beetles after they were green to me. If only the eyes were stackable...
my 44 warrior was camping these guys in west free port waiting for the fire beetle eye drop. i camped em for 58 hrs straight with no fb eye! site says it's common, but it's more like very, very rare! anyway, back to work!!
ummm all low level loot is semi nerfed you are too high level my level 3 chanter gets at least one of every kill sometimes two... but with my level 7 ranger i can rarely loot spiderling silks off of the corpses because they are green to me... the way i figures it the loot code is written so that you no longer get much loot off green enimies.. at least this is my experience
Nasty creatures when you are lvl 1-3 because they aggro if they see you attacking another one. However they are great exp at those levels especially if you can get one of their eyes and then use the dot flame lick (ranger/druid) or and area of effect spell.
Watch out for these guys, they can hit for well over 5 damage! They also have a tendency to group up on you, making these beetles powerful indeed. I would watch where you step in Nektulos if I were you...Mwahahahahahahaha,(stopping to regain breath)Huu,Mwahahahaahahahaha...
All the newbies that hunt near the newbe log should not go after these guys unless to take a good look around...because their buddys are bound to be around...and they will swarm you with groups of a possible 6...it happened to my level 2 SK..If you are an SK, make sure you have your Harm Touch ready incase they swarm..
These are very good for a newbie chillin' in North Qeynos since they are right there and they offer fire beetle eyes. But beware that they gather together like flies on crap(as Mrs. Cohen would say). Basically just hang out near guards when killing these if you're a low level.
These guys will swarm you. That is passing beetles will jump in on your fights with other beetles or (for some reason) orc pawns. Be careful if you are under level 3.
